  • Does a good job and has two outlets.
Got this to use along side my wood router and saw table. The instructions are written well, and easy to understand. Use any power tool that draws at least 30 watts to trigger the vacuum function. I plugged in a wattage meter first. Then I plugged the control switch into it to check the accuracy of the relay. I started by plugging in two desk lamps into the tool outlets and turned them both on. Each bulb draws 14 watts for a total of 28 watts. The vacuum switch stayed off as designed. I then tested with a single fan plugged in that draws 32.5 watts and the switch activated. There is a short, one second delay before the vacuum turns on automatically. After I turned the fan off, the switch stayed activated for 10 seconds just like the manual states. I then tested the control switch with a 1600 watt space heater and it worked fine. It performed exactly as described. The shell is thick enough and has some sturdy tabs to mount it wherever you need it. Nice compact size makes it easy to fit in a good variety of places. I did find this to be priced competitively. ... show more

  • Standard. Maybe feels cheapy. Ok though.
Works well, but the build feels a little cheap * Automatically turns the vacuum on with your tool * Keeps the vacuum running about 10 seconds afterward * Two tool outlets make the setup more flexible * Works as intended, but the housing feels pretty cheap here’s my details about it: This automatic vacuum switch does what it is supposed to do and makes using a shop vacuum with power tools much more convenient. Once you plug your tool and vacuum into it, the vacuum automatically comes on shortly after the tool starts. When you shut the tool off, the vacuum continues running for about another 10 seconds, which is actually useful for clearing the remaining sawdust out of the hose. I also like having two power tool outlets. That gives you some flexibility if you want to leave a couple different tools connected instead of constantly swapping plugs. The automatic function seems to respond well, and the short delay before the vacuum starts hasn’t really bothered me. My biggest complaint is the overall construction. The plastic housing feels pretty cheap and lightweight in your hands. It doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t hold up, but it definitely doesn’t have the solid feel I would expect from something that’s going to live in a workshop and have cords plugged and unplugged from it regularly. I would have preferred a heavier-duty enclosure, especially for an electrical device designed around power tools. You also have to keep the 15-amp total load in mind when choosing which vacuum and tool you’re going to run together. That’s especially important with larger shop vacs and higher-draw saws. Overall, it works well and the automatic shutoff delay is a genuinely useful feature. I like the convenience enough that I’ll keep using it, but the cheap-feeling housing keeps it from feeling like a really high-quality shop accessory. Not sure it’s a “good value”. More like average for sure. In terms of versatility, I mainly use it as an extension cord with multi-outlets as a splitter. ... show more

  • Works perfect.
If you don't know what this is for, it's an automatic, tool-activated, switch for your dust collection vacuum (shop vac in my case) This gets plugged into the wall, both the saw and vacuum get plugged into their respective spot on this device. As soon as I pull the trigger on my miter saw (1 second delay), this powers up my shop vac to collect the dust. It stays running for 10 seconds after I release the switch. It does exactly what it's supposed to do and does it well. It feels well made and will work with any type of miter saw or table saw. Great product at a great price point. ... show more

  • This Thing Sucks—in the Best Possible Way
This automatic vacuum switch is one of those shop accessories that sounds simple but makes a big difference once you start using it. I have it hooked up to my miter saw, and it does exactly what I need it to do: when the saw turns on, the vacuum kicks on automatically after about two seconds. When I’m done cutting, it keeps the vacuum running for roughly another ten seconds, which helps clear the dust out of the hoses instead of shutting everything down too soon. I also like that it has two power ports, so you can set it up with more than one tool if needed. The sensitivity has been really good, too. My older switch from another manufacturer had trouble detecting my random orbit sander when it was running at lower speeds, but this one works without any issue, even at the slowest setting. The three-position switch is handy as well, with options for off, automatic, and always on. Overall, this is a great little item to have in the shop, especially for the price. It makes dust collection feel a lot less annoying because I don’t have to think about turning the vacuum on and off every time I use a tool. Mounting is flexible, too, since you can hang it with the keyhole slot on the back or use the screw holes for a more permanent installation. ... show more

  • Works well but startup delay feels a bit slow
This power tool vacuum controller switch seems well built and works as described. I tested it out with my miter saw and it consistently powered up the vacuum one second after starting it. The vacuum also stays on for 10 seconds after shutting the tool off, as described. In my miter saw testing, I found that the 1 second startup delay was a little bit too long for short quick cuts. For a few small cuts, I finished the cut just as the vacuum spun up. I would have preferred a faster startup time without this 1 second delay. I'm trying to get used to powering up my tool and waiting a moment before beginning the cut for this reason. Out of curiosity, I opened it up to check out the design. There are several header footprints on the PCB with promising sounding labels, should I ever try to poke at the delay times (not recommending anyone try this btw). I couldn't get a good look at the top of the PCB without de-soldering the receptacles though, so that's as far as I went with it. It is also worth noting that this does not have any certification marks that would indicate it has been listed by UL ETL, or any US recognized testing lab. Because of this, I don't plan to use it unattended, which shouldn't be a problem since I would be using a tool with it at the same time anyway. The full-price value for this seems pretty average but I see that it is sometimes on sale, which makes it easier to recommend. ... show more

  • Works flawlessly. Can be used in many ways, not just for a vacuum.
This automatic vacuum switch works great. It includes one outlet to power a vacuum automatically as soon as a load is placed on one or both of the power tool outlets. Once the vacuum outlet gets powered up by the internal relay, it remains powered up until you shut off the tool(s). Actually it remains powered several seconds longer than that (7 - 10 sec) to allow the vacuum to have time to clear your vaccine hose of any remaining dust after the tool shuts off. This switch is designed for a dust collector on something like a table saw so you don’t have to power 2 devices on and off repeatedly. Basically it slaves the vacuum outlet to the other 2 via a relay. This switch can actually be used in any situation where you want a second corded device to run any time you power any corded ac load. Maybe you want your window fan to turn on anytime you use your can opener. Why? I have no idea but this switch is as useful as your imagination can make it. I just tested it out of the box and it functions flawlessly. I will revisit this review if it fails to provide good service. However, it looks well made and I’m happy with it so far. ... show more

  • Only 15 Amps and doesn't include a breaker or fuse. Would recommend something safer.
It works, for lower amperage tools only. Will work for smaller vacuums and skill saws. But when using a vacuum and a table saw you end up pulling to much current. There are safer models out there to use as this doesn't seem to include a breaker/fuse and you need one. By code most garage outlets are going to be 20 amp circuits, which means the breaker is 20amps. While using a shop vacuum and some kind of saw you most likely are going to hit over 15 amps and this is only rated for 15. If this units wire is only rated to 15 amps, during routine use you can be pulling 20amps through its wiring and relay because the only protection is the breaker in your panel. When using a table saw and a vacuum, measured 21.2 amps for 5 minutes and unit started to get warm. Might be good for smaller vacuums and hand held power saws but would not recommend for a table saw or larger table top saw. ... show more

  • Works great for lower power tools
This is limited to 15Amps, so both the tool and the vacuum need to use less than 15Amps combined! Because of that it might not suitable for all setups. Keep this in mind before ordering. It does have a one second delay to turn the vacuum on, likely to reduce chance of overload from the startup current. It is easy to install and use and has been compatible with every power tool I've tested it with. Seems well made but does not seem to have any certifications. Price is great.
