About a year ago I had purchased and have since been using a backup camera system and an add-on front camera from Foxpark (AUTO-VOX's sister brand). Not only has this system been a great addition to my car, I also found their customer service to be 5-star. So I was expecting good things when they reached out to ask if I wanted to review their newly upgraded portable trailer camera system. First let me say that, just as with my existing backup camera system, this camera and monitor deliver clear detailed video (with optional guideline overlay) which takes all the guesswork out of what's happening behind your trailer or motorhome. That this is a quality product is clear from the moment you open the box. Packaging this system in a handy hard-shell carrying case is not just a nice touch, it shows that AUTO-VOX understands that one whole set of use cases for this system is as a portable system to set up when the need arises. Inside the case you'll find the monitor with its suction cup mount, antenna and power cord w. 12v lighter plug. The camera comes with its own antenna and USB charge cord. But the real versatility starts with the camera's included mounting options... Let's say you own an RV, or a camper or other enclosed trailer which you regularly tow. Pick a spot with a good rear view, and screw on the permanent mount. You can still easily slide the camera off to recharge its battery (which they estimate you'd only do every 2 or 3 months - or add an optional solar panel to skip charging altogether), or to move it elsewhere. On the other hand if, like me, you find yourself renting or borrowing trailers then the included magnetic mount is priceless. Not only is the magnet extremely strong, but also there's an included steel plate which can be used when dealing with non-magnetic surfaces. I wish I had known about this system during my most recent trailer rental. For a month I had a U-Haul "U-box" which I had to maneuver around multiple times every day! The U-box is a wooden crate with a weatherproof cover. That metal plate would have slipped perfectly in-between the box and cover just over the rear door, allowing the magnetic mount to easily hold the camera with a full view behind the trailer. The time before that, I was towing an aircraft on a flatbed trailer. Fortunately, there were two of us on that drive, but it took a lot of neck-craning and mirror-tilting for us to know that we had to pull over to adjust the load a couple of times. Using the magnet to mount the camera to the back of the pickup cab, above the bed, would have let me easily watch the load. Those are just a couple of situations from my own experience where this camera system could be used. Another example would be placing the magnet mount on a pickup tailgate aimed down to make lining up the hitch a breeze. And, even when not towing, you could aim this to keep an eye on the load inside a truck bed. In short - if you own, borrow, rent or drive any RV, truck or trailer you should own this camera system.

We have yet to use the camera for a trip with our trailer but just in unpacking and testting the product one can tell it is a very good quality product. The “carry bag” it comes with is actually more of a very nice semi-hard case, so first impression with unboxing was good! Opening the case and seeing/feeling the components also gave me a feeling of optimism. The parts feel solid, giving the impression the product will last. Items were packed carefully with consideration for fragility of camera glass and monitor screen, as well as smaller parts being bagged so they aren’t scattered about. Charging the camera did not take long straight out of the box so it must have had a good charge already. When I plugged in the monitor to test it as well as the camera connection, I was very pleased with how clear the images were and also how quickly the camera switches between day and night mode, which reassures me that backing from sunlight into shade won’t be an issue. This product has really relieved a lot of my stress associated with towing a trailer! Looking forward to our first road trip using it!

SIMPLE. Took it out of the box, charged it up, stuck the magnet base of the camera to the back of the trailer. Then carried the monitor into the cab plug it into the power and just like that I had a clear vision behind my trailer. The signal has been good ever since turning it on the first time. Super nice the way everything just works. No fiddling around and trying for the right wiggle to make the camera and monitor work together. A month of on and off use and the battery on the camera is still power up. Been down some bumpy roads and the camera is still where I originally placed it. Seem that this unit will last the life of my trailer and then some.

My boat gets trailered into a rented garage and there’s not a lot of space outside the trailer for error. Although i used SUV mirrors and my wife to back in the first time, I’m looking forward to using this BU camera. The magnet on the camera is quite strong so, it should hold well on my trailer. I’d like to use this in a dual manner where, a) I put the cam on the trailer for back in & b) I move the camera into the back of my SUV. Been trying various angles for the camera to be in the SUV rear, looking thru the glass. Partially smoked glass adds a challenge somewhat. And there are rear window defroster lines too. It could work once I magnet mount it, but if i add a small 2nd outside auto cam to this monitor it’s looking like that’d be a better SUV rear view. When i tested it sitting on my tow hitch it gave a really good view. Hope to update this as I do this 2nd option. I’m aware my plan a) is kinda outside what this package was designed for - so hard to remove stars.
