  • Revised "So far quite pleased (45 days)"
21Nov22 Update: After posting the original review below, the very next night and almost every night since the door has not closed completely on its own. So I press the gray button, it starts down, starts back up, press it again, repeat until it's all the way down. This suggested the track may be gritty so I sprayed it with WD40 but that only worked one night. There is no visible obstruction in either track to keep it from closing. Will be replacing with another brand. Original 09Nov22 review: Installation is not difficult as long as you understand this unit is smaller than a typical 12x12 opening; you'll need some scrap material for this modification. Screwing on the solar mount did break off a piece of the plastic; it seemed a bit brittle under the tight fit of the screw. Fortunately the other hole did not also break. Note: Opening the door with the sunrise is probably fine but most likely the door will close too early at dusk so you'll probably want to opt for the timer. It took me 3 or 4 days to figure out what I was doing wrong in setting the timer but once I got it right the unit has only missed one time (one morning for some reason it didn't open on its own). It's been about 45 days and so far I'm very pleased with the unit. Add'l note: the remote control has never worked... even just 2 feet away ... show more

  • can not count on the door to function properly
I had high hopes for this door but I don't know if it will work for us after all. It has closed around dust several times successfully. It will sometimes close earlier if it's been cloudy all day and several times it did not stop when a chicken was under it but instead the chicken had to scrunch down to get out from under it before it recognized something was under and it went back up. It closes A LOT only half way because of chicken poop on the entry. It also doesn't just open and close but rather goes up most of the way then stops and comes back down half way and stops for a while or for the day like that and I have to go in and manually do it myself so they chickens can get out. I would not recommend this door at all, we are looking into other options. Sad since it's expensive and not worth the price. ... show more

  • Not worth the money
I've been using this for about 2 months. Solar panel may provide enough power if in direct sunlight but any shading and the battery will die. Using the light sensor works fine in the morning but you will lock out your chickens every night because it will close too early. I had to go to the timer mode and its a real pain to set it up and of course you have to adjust it as the seasons change. Don't mount the frame on the building. Install a washer at all four screw locations to keep the door from rubbing on the building. It will detect the extra friction and not close. I would not buy this one again should it go out. ... show more

  • Quite working after 3 months
I loved this door until the solar panel stopped charging. We have had it on light sensor mode and it opened and closed at just the right times. BUT, the solar panel stopped charging after only 3 months. Now the door is useless.

  • works pretty well but for some reason the door wouldn't open after 2 weeks without direct sunlight
works really well when it does....lost 3 chicks who starved because the door wouldn't open as was out of power when the solar charging failed. Boosted with power pack and found them

  • Doesn’t open on time
I had high hopes for this model. imagine your Chickens getting let out at dawn via solar power while you lie in bed. But… DOES NOT WORK. Avoid this product at all costs. The battery if there is one is tiny and holds no charge. Does not open in morning time. It opens EVENTUALLY, when it finally gets enough solar power. sometimes it closes,. sometimes it doesn’t. The plug for the solar panel is also placed in such a way that the moving door can be blocked by it. You can’t rely on this product at all. It could be fun for a hobbyist to take apart and improve. . Make sure your chickens have another way out or keep a screwdriver handy: One positive is that it’s easy to install and uninstall. ... show more

  • Solar panel insufficient
Door itself appears, installs and operates as advertised. Solar panel doesn't keep battery charged. I connected a Dewalt battery / USB adapter temporarily. Amazon coughed up a $10 credit. Plan to buy an additional PV panel with USB connection and a plug adapter (mini USB to old fashioned USB).

  • Stopped working
The door stopped working about 5 weeks after purchase. It started with the door not closing the entire way at night. First time I thought it was a fluke...I made sure the track was clear. It worked properly for a few days, then it would not close at all. I had a hard time getting it to close at all. I tried to remote & the buttons on the actual door. I was very frustrated and came right in and contacted Amazon. Unfortunately I am just outside the return window. Amazon sent me a link to message the manufacturer and told me they have 24 hours to respond...that was 3 days ago. This morning the door only opened 1/3 of the way...the girls were not happy. ... show more
