Sound is fantastic. I bought this unit for a hopeful upgrade on my other tube amplifier. It has 3 band EQ, mid control is needed for vinyl audio. Love this device, great sound quality. Has a funny powering down sound but highly recommend.

If you know how good tube amps are, just read the first two paragraphs. For the uninitiated, read it all. No instructions, so you better know what you're doing. The tubes are actually replaceable, which is a good thing. Some amps solder them down, so if the tube goes, good luck. A good tip, you plug this in between the source and the amp.....not between the amp and the speakers. But Jared, doesn't a capacitor smooth out the sound? No Padawan, not in the same way. A good cap does improve the sound, but it only smooths out linear input. Tubes bring back that natural curve. Trust me, it isn't the same. Tubes can cause a hum, but caps remove it, so essentially, a good amp gets rid of the bad and gives you all the benefits of the tube amp. Keep in mind, this is a pre-amp, so again....put it between the source and the amp. The product itself is nicely made, a good weight, and really adds a nice classic touch to the desk it sits on. I now have the amp hidden and use this for the major adjustments. Ok just hear me out...If you want a good explanation of this, think of those trendy blue tinted headlights that were all the rage back in the early 2000s. They were closer to white light, but very unnatural. A lot of sound is like that these days. Excessive highs and lows, etc. It's like looking at a high resolution image, that has artificial edges, like looking at an AI video. Like it's too sharp. Back to lighting. A lot of homes now have daylight bulbs, which is referred to as cool white, vs the classic warm white lights. Somewhere in the middle is actual day light. Not blue, not yellow, just somewhere in the middle. They say the warm yellow light is more relaxing, and is preferred before bedtime. That's where a tube amp comes in. The old vacuum tubes actually take the edge off. It's like softening the focus of an image, to give it an aesthetic touch. Most purists love film photos because the grains aren't in a grid like pixels. They look more natural. It's like a warmer light that isn't so intense. It's pleasing to look at, yet not modern and cool looking. That's what a tube amp does. The sound is just better. If you don't like the extremes, you buy a tube amp.
