  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Worth The Splurg!
I have the AT-120XUSB turntable and, like many, I purchased the VM95ML cartridge as an upgrade to the original VM95E which sounded great, however, I felt that if there was a possibility of an improved sound over the E, then I for sure wanted that and so I went for it. It all came factory calibrated so there were no set up issues. After a month of playing, I feel like the VM95ML has broken in pretty good and I would say that for me, the improvement in sound over the VM95E is probably about 10%. But it’s a huge 10%...Of course I was after more sound separation and I got that, however, I never realized how much 3-D sound I was missing, my Polk monitor 40 speakers are pretty deep front to back and with this ML cartridge, the sound is more 3 dimensional and the soundstage is indeed wider. Another considerable payoff in quality is that the previous VM95E had some issues with inner grove distortion and with the VM95ML, this problem is now non-existent. I chose the headshell/cartridge combo for the convenience of easy switch, the VM95ML is an investment that you don’t want to risk by having to be switching out the stylus alone. I will say, if you have, and are currently using the VM95E, you’re fine, the VM95E Elliptical ROCKS, especially if you’re decompressing on your metal classics and for the times when there may be a lot of company around. I will keep my VM95E and use for casual listening, however, if you want to impress people with the results of the hard work (and money) that you’ve put into your system and or you’re wanting that moment of solitude to where you’re breaking out the Floyd or like Alan Parson’s Project etc., then you want the experience to go to 11 and you have to have the VM95ML in your private stock. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, do not hesitate like I did
Best upgrade I have done to this almost 50 year old Pioneer Direct Drive Turntable. Started with a 95C , Upgraded that to a 95E that sounded good too but not at this level. Yes this stylus is 4X the price, but it is scheduled to last 5X as long. As long as you do not accidentally bump it (like I did on my 95E) and break it. Now I have a head shell and cartridge/stylus that cost more than I originally spent on the turntable but man it sounds great. NO more pops and clicks from my used records ( I work hard on cleaning them too). Even a 65 year old Sinatra in mono sounds like new (almost). I know this is not the best for mono but I had to try. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Makes record sound way better.
Purchased to upgrade my turntable that came with the green, 95E stylus. Very satisfied with this new cartridge and stylus. Head alignment was perfect out of the box. The sound from the new stylus is way way better with hardly any pops and scratches. High and low frequencies stand out much better.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Upgraded my Flurance RT-81 with this assembly
For those who are concerning the compatibility of this cartridge with their Flurance RT-81: I m pretty confident to tell you they work flawlessly together and it does bring the sound quality of this turntable at least 2 levels up. You can hear a lot more details and both highs and lows are enhanced with a wider soundstage. Of course you need to rebalance the arm weight and anti-skate but I found the alignment was perfectly matched with the stock configuration. Anyways it’s a worthwhile investment if you already have the RT-81 and plan to upgrade. I have a feeling it may even sound better than the RT-84/85 with the Ortofon Blue after the upgrade. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Quality sound
I had been using the original stylus for the last two years and thought it did a great job. I replaced it with this new cartridge and the sound is really impressive. I had been purchasing CDs for the last 30 years and rediscovered the warmth of the turntable a couple of years ago.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Clarity
Impressive from first spin coming from the older AT95e. Very clear and revealing. This can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your listening tastes. I found I had to knock down the mid and treble on my JBL Decade L36 speakers. This cartridge will pick up subsonic frequency from warped LPs. Having a receiver or phono stage with a subsonic filter will help eliminate woofer pumping. What they say about the ML's ability to track inner grooves with minimal distortion is true in my situation. The Beatles white album now plays through to the end without the "S" distortion that made it otherwise annoying to listen to. It also does well with LIVE Throwing copper LP which sounded very congested and shrill with previous 95e. What I found is well mastered albums sound fun and energetic, but on the flip side poor, tinny and compressed recordings can sound fatiguing because they are not being padded by rolled off frequency response. This cartridge will make you desire better masterings and maybe be disappointed with LP's that were previously enjoyed... ... show more
