I put this stabilizer on my 1998 17' procraft bass boat with a 90hp mercury. My main expectation of this stabilizer was quicker planing for faster out of the hole time. Fortunately for me It decreased that time by a couple seconds and made a HUGE improvement in handling and overall stability of the boat at speed. While running this stabilizer, the boat seems to glide straight through rough lake chop and wake like it never has before. It made my boat sit noticeably higher on plane which is probably the reason it ran through wake easier. I also noticed the handling seemed much more stable at all speeds and I could hold plane 5 mph slower than I could before. The trim seemed easier / smoother to adjust while getting on plane and the top end speed wasnt effected at all. Overall the best bang for my buck I've ever received from any boat accesories I've purchased over the years. 100% happy with this purchase! It even impressed my friend who was real skeptical about it. I call that a win-win. ... show more

    • Wow it's like a new boat
When I bought a condo at the lake I "inherited" an 1992 rinker 20 ft runabout with a Yamaha stern drive. They no longer make them and parts are difficult to find. So when I discovered the power trim motor was broken the hunt began. The local repair shop had no luck. Found one on the Internet. $800. Ouch. Began looking for options. Friend suggested smart tabs. Won't fit my hull. Decided I'd wasted more than $25 on stupider items. Why not give these a try? So before foil. Wouldn't plane until 3100 rpm. Bow came up so much couldn't see for several seconds. After foil, will stay on plane at 2900 rpm. Bow stays down so I can see forward the entire time. For no reason I can figure out even no wake handling is better. Boat doesn't wander like it did. I don't have a trailer but boat is on a lift in its dock. Put on life jacket and jumped in and grabbed cordless drill Less than 30 minutes later, going for test drive. Maybe a unique situation, but what a great addition to my boat. ... show more

So I did a pretty good job of testing this product I think. I took my boat out (2004 19 ft key west with a 115 yamaha) the night before installing and did a few tests. Time to plane by flooring the boat was nine seconds. Speed at 4500 rpms 25 mph. Speed at 5000 rpm 28 mph. Lowest planing speed 3600 rpms. The next night I attached the hydro stabilizer and performed the same tests time to plane when flooring 6 seconds speed at 4500 rpms 27 mph. Speed at 5000 rpms 29 mph. Lowest planing speed 32 rpms. So definite improvement. It also does a good job of pushing the bow down. I would say 3 or 4 inches. Time will tell if I really love it but right now I'm happy. ... show more

I have used dolfin brand in the past but was flat. This one is a gull wing design and gets your boatt on a plane really fast. The only thing is that since there is less of the fin underwater it tends to drift at high speed in the turns.

This absolutely changed our boat. We are running a 06 Mako 2101 with an 06 200 Mercury Optimax. It had a tendency to porpoise at low speed. Not any more. Steers like a car. At 25mph it would like to fall off plane. Now it stays up at 18mph. Now the biggie. Top speed was 54. Now it is 60. All speeds are from the GPS. For 35 bucks it has to be the deal of the year.
