  • Great product
I own 3 Ninja V's. They are a great way to add versatility to my video recording. I use these on my CANON R5 and R6 to record beyond the 30 minute limit of the Cameras.

  • Necessary Add-on For Your Lumix GH6
Necessary add-on may sound like an oxymoron but its true. If you're not using the Ninja V+ with the Lumix GH6 you're only getting half your camera's worth. The Ninja V+ opens up a whole new world of ProRes RAW goodness at frame rates only dreamed of with the GH5. And you're going to need the high-volume and fast SSDs that the Ninja V+ uses because your files are going to get big. Bigger than the 512GB limit of a CFast Express card. Its nice to have that card as on fall-back but its never going to give you the options that a Ninja V+ will. The lower priced Ninja V is better than nothing but I highly recommend the V+ for anyone with pro aspirations. ... show more

  • Listing is not accurate
Listing is not accurate. h.265 is not preinstalled. Atomos has no phone support and their email support is clunky and slow. They want me to pay another $99 to activate h.265 Buyer beware. Atomos should not be in business with Adorama or Amazon. (unprofessional, defective equipment, terrible customer service) ... show more

  • Hit and Miss
I love atomos, and my review Star doesn’t judge them as a company, only my experience with this product. This monitor would work for a bit, and then it would stop sending a signal even though it’s saying it’s sending a signal. We would have to restart the atomos every time this happened. I didn’t own this more than a week and this became apparent, and actually hindered a magic hour shot on a 30ft jib that was sending the AC a signal though the SDI attachment, with a scene involving police, fire fighters, car on fire, and 2 expensive actors. The moment was very intense with this issue and instead recorded internally rather than ProRes RAW. We reset the recorder at the end and it worked. After that day it happened 2-3 more times within the next few weeks. I intended to use the monitor for personal use and rent with a camera package. I could not risk what had happened to me, happen to someone else on their shoot and I’m unavailable to be reached during their production. Maybe it was just the one I had, but fair warning to anyone getting this. ... show more

  • WARNING: Fundamentally Inaccurate, Confuses Video and Full Levels with LUTs
I so much want to like this device. It's inexpensive compared to SmallHD. I ended up buying it over the BlackMagic device because it records ProRes Raw. Boy, did I make a mistake. The thing about this device, and I've tested it extensively, is that when you monitor from most cameras using a LUT, the device will confuse the signal's range. Signals are either full or video range. Don't ask why, it just goes back to broadcast television conventions. That means the RGB signal is coded either as 0-255 or 16-235, with the lowest value being the blackest value and the highest being the whitest value. If you send a video signal to a device expecting a video signal, the image looks correct, but if you send a full signal to a device expecting a video level, it will shift the blacks downward and throw the entire gamma curve off, since the picture values are basically shifted down when the curve is applied. Apparently, it was never explained fully to Atomos. Blissfully unaware of the most fundamental principles of imaging signals, they've set the Ninja V+ to expect a video signal when the device is receiving a full-level signal with a log encoding from a camera (as is the case with like 90% of cameras). That means that whenever you use a LUT that decodes CLOG, SLOG or whatever coming off of your camera, the Ninja will interpret the math completely wrong and raise the brightness while decreasing the black values, sometimes even below the lowest black possible. It's a complete mess and makes the device completely useless when you've bought it to be able to preview what the final image with the LUT applied will look like and adjust the lighting on set so that you don't have to do this in post. It gets worse! If you record something while you're monitoring with a LUT, even though the LUT isn't being baked in, the full signal will still record with video levels. It's a simple fix in Resolve because you can just with one click select the proper levels. But if you're in Premiere or FCPX, you're out of luck. They provide a "legalize" toggle to try to fix this issue, but you'll find that the "legalize" button is broken, too. It just clips the information that goes below black or above the whitest white. But those blacks are actual data that have been shifted by mistake by the firmware down farther than it should be below 0 IRE or higher than 100 IRE. If you previewed it on the camera, those values would be deep shadows and the highlight rolloff. So the solution causes you to cut off maybe two or three stops of dynamic range! And it gets even worse! When you use Canon's Cinegamut, somehow the Ninja interprets that wrong because of some HDMI version issue, which has the effect of lending a green color cast to your image that's baked in. Unfortunately, the only workaround to this is to use a Rec. 2020 or Rec. 709 color matrix along with your preferred CLOG flavor. However, that means that you're getting less than optimal color data off the your sensor since these are smaller colorspaces than Cinegamut. Oh, and while you're doing that, don't forget to use Resolve so you can tell it to convert from video to full levels first! If you search for these issues in the forums, you can find folks who provide copious visual documentation. I'm too lazy to do it here. But please believe me and research these issues thoroughly before buying. If you call Atomos, you'll get someone who makes you jump through a ton of hoops to prove the issue. This is just one example, after I had already did something similar and told them about it (I don't think they read my initial email): [To address this concern, we kindly request that you verify if your Ninja V is running the 10.93 firmware version. Once confirmed, we recommend recording two short clips with the same image for comparison purposes. In the first clip, please apply a LUT (Look-Up Table) to the footage using the "During Record" option in the LUT menu on the Ninja V. In the second clip, record without applying any LUT to the footage. To properly evaluate the results, we suggest comparing the two clips on your PC screen. Please observe the footage recorded in the Ninja V with the applied LUT alongside the footage recorded without any LUT but with the LUT applied on your Non-Linear Editing (NLE) software. If, after conducting this test, the issue persists, we kindly request that you provide us with side-by-side images of the two clips displayed on your PC screen. This visual reference will greatly aid us in understanding and addressing the matter effectively.] When I didn't reply within a couple of weeks because I was busy, they closed my ticket. There is absolutely no way that they can't be aware of these issues. Read some Reddit forums where people actually did their pointless busywork and still got nowhere with the support. I just gave up with them because I can tell that they're giving me the run-around. tldr; Atomos is not a trustworthy company with devices that fail in the most basic functionality that is promised to you. If I would have known that I couldn't have used LUTs with my Atomos and have the image be displayed accurately, I would have selected a device that was much less than $700 or I would have paid extra for a BlackMagic monitor. The BM device solves this issue with a simple option to toggle for video or full level input. If Atomos is reading this, please know that I feel thoroughly cheated out of my purchase. $700 may not be a lot when it comes to camera equipment, but it's actually a lot when I have to buy another device that can do what your device is advertised as doing. I WANT A REFUND FOR THIS IMMEDIATELY OR I WANT NEW FIRMWARE THAT FIXES THE ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... show more

“Whoops, looks like something went wrong.” Is all I get after going through the hassle of registering with atomos after getting my ninja V+. Unable to get to the tokens which are need to unlock the features of the device. This is rediculous! • False specs. 4k@120Hz doesn't work
The device will default back to 4k @120hz whenever you input at 120hz signal from HDMI. In this case, output from an Xbox series X or PS5, it CANNOT record 4k@120hz. What a waste of money and a falsely advertised product.
