  • A Great Console for those on a Budget
Model: Walnut
This was a great pickup and I have to say Atari has something really good here. In a time when video game prices are going through the roof, this is a pretty good alternative to play some great games on a console without spending too much money. The games themselves are indie titles, digital homebrew releases and a couple of collections of arcade games mainly. Games are generally pick up and play while there are some longer adventure based games. There are a good amount of hidden gems here and enough games in the store to keep you busy. Games tend to go around $10 to $20 a game. I would recommend looking a list of the best VCS games online to get an idea of what to start with, and then go from there. For those concerned: my experience out of the box was good. The console updated fine, did the BIOS update fine, and shortly afterwards, I was able to get into the store and play without any hassle. It seems Atari has fixed the issues at launch where there were problems upgrading the console. Overall, the upgrade process was longer than expected but acceptable enough where I was able to play after about some waiting. ... show more

  • Recommended for those of us who enjoy playing 80s video games
Model: Walnut
Super fun and I highly recommend to anyone wanting to play old originals from the 80s. Device is made well and easy to set up. You'll be playing games within 10-20 minutes of unboxing. As a bonus, the wireless controllers included also work with your Windows PC. A really great console from Atari.

  • A Modern, Small And Compact Consoles For Retro Gamers
Model: Walnut
Out of the box, you'll get a nice looking and well build console. It's underpowered, but we live in a day that dedicated new retro consoles and computers are a thing. If Indie developers want to make simpler games, then this is the optimal platform for that! With the console comes 2, alright controllers. They feel a bit cheap and flimsy compared to modern consoles of the day, but you also get the Atari Vault with lots of great games, and all on an Atari console. With this is is a storefront of similar games you can try. There is no AAA game here, so you'll have to be willing to search uncharted territories. You can also use this as a small PC console, but you'll need a bit of technical knowhow to do so, and you should upgrade the memory to do so. But there might be better options down the line. This console is for the ones who seek it out, like me. It seems the poor VCS had an identity crisis and that Atari are moving away from the idea, as a VCS 2 hasn't been announced in any way. But it seems Atari have done a good job of presenting the consoles, developing games for it and discounting the price more and more over the years. So it took a while, but I can finally say that I recommend it for quick pick up & play games that Atari excells at!a Who knows how much longer this will be supported and how the storefront will continue on, but maybe in this day and age with consoles, games and computer parts is getting more and more expensive, maybe this is the VCS's time to shine if the standard price holds it up at around the 100$ mark, or maybe that was the clearance sale for the last batch. ... show more

  • Fun little device. Works great.
Model: Walnut
Love it. Playing older games is a great passtime. Then you can boot it into linux and use it as a nifty little pc. It's not a powerhouse but still fun to use.

  • Missed Opportunity – Great Looks, But Falls Short in Functionality
Model: Walnut
I wanted to like the Atari VCS. Despite the numerous warnings, I went for it, hoping for the best. As a collector of vintage consoles and mini systems, I'm used to quirks, but this one was a major letdown. Hardware: Visually, the Atari VCS is stunning. The console and controllers are sleek, well-designed, and it came in impressive packaging with the bonus of extra-long cables, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended. Right out of the box, the system struggled to connect and refused to play pre-installed games. After extensive digging through forums and user discussions, I discovered that a critical production issue in the OS leaves many units unusable at first startup. This required downloading and installing a rescue image via USB, taking hours to get the unit working. Controller Issues: Not long after setup, problems with the controller emerged. The modern controller misclicked frequently, and the D-pad was unreliable for basic left-to-right inputs. The joystick was an innovative idea, but its hypersensitivity made classic games nearly unplayable. Software: While the interface looked polished, issues quickly surfaced. A rogue mouse cursor would pop up randomly, button mapping for the controllers felt off across different games with no clear way to fix it, and the app store had very limited content. Hoping to salvage its use as an emulation box, I was disappointed to find the Atari OS was locked down, preventing this functionality. Between the bad controller, broken setup process...I can’t recommend this, even if the sparse game library isn’t a dealbreaker. Sadly, this beautiful piece of hardware ended up being a return for me. ... show more

  • Very good console/pc hybrid
Model: Walnut
I purchased the item. Because it is being discontinued. It is a very good linux device that can also run Windows 11. It can be upgraded with ssd and upto 32 gb ram. Even on stock, it is very good value. I think it is a good alternative to the nuc pcs. I have bought more than one.

  • Great little console. Not for those who expect PS5 level support.
Model: Walnut
This is probably late to the peak of this console's popularity, but it is a nice and fun little console (that runs Linux). It has the ability to run emulators and other retro games. The store has some good homebrew (that are expensive on cartridge now) and more importantly, it has a lot of the great Atari games that make it such a great nostalgia trip. Don't expect the Switch or any other console in terms of polish. It is a love letter to the heyday of Atari with some modern indie games thrown it. It may not be a long-term console, but what I've gotten so far is quite useful. And the controllers are comfortable. The 2600-style controller takes a little getting used to, but when you do it makes 2600 game a pleasure to play. ... show more
