GET FAMILIAR WITH ARMOURY CRATE this is very important. Recommended operation is Silent or Turbo mode when plugged in. On battery use Silent mode and use the iGPU mode to disable the Geforce card. (By doing this you should get up to 6+ hours of light work with the 2nd screen on, maybe 8-10 light usage hours with only one screen. Potentially an all-day laptop for work and school if you do this.) There's also noise cancelling mic tools and some other stuff in the Crate. DOLBY ATMOS IS YOUR FRIEND this is also very important. Movie mode is very good for a lot of content, but I put it back on Music or Game when not watching something. No webcam, no Thunderbolt, no fingerprint, MicroSD reader but not full size SD, no optical drive. 1080p not 1440p or 4k. sRGB color is good but not same as full Adobe color on the 4K. However the 4K/120 model is rarer than unicorns. I use the display at 100% scale. Main screen does not take touch or pens. Poor battery life when using the Geforce, this is normal for any laptop. Has dual mic plus good noise cancelling, works well with external webcam. Empty slot for an extra m.2 2280 SSD if you need a lot of space for videos, games or other material. Bottom screen easy to organize, super useful. Full 10-finger touch input works well with Android. Supported by Microsoft Surface Pen and the Wacom Bamboo 2 smart pen, this can improve your work flow a lot....or you can just hand-sign a photograph before sending it to grandma. There is a hardware button to disable 2nd screen entirely to save battery. There are software keys to keep the mouse inside the upper screen, and to disable the keyboard for safer pen usage on the lower screen. Keyboard lights up, colors can be set, touchpad is small but decent. Touchpad turns into number pad, makes an acceptable substitute most of the time. Laptop body is strong, not very heavy, designed for excellent cooling without a stand, designed to work well as a desktop replacement. Has video, physical internet (ethernet), and a USB type A on the back for classic desktop usage. Extra type A sockets, audio jack and power input go on the left away from touchpad and right-handed mouse users. Audio jack is high quality and connected to an ESS Saber audio chip. Four speakers plus virtual surround work very well... Everyone already knows the R9-5900HX is a very fast processor for a laptop, both in simple and heavy tasks. Not everyone knows that ARMOURY Crate can better tame the chip to work at whatever level you want it to, either more power or quiet and efficient. The video chip is Geforce RTX 3080 high-performance type (16GB video memory instead of 8GB on Zephyrus g15, max 130W vs max 100W on same g15). This can give you 15-20% more performance. In comparison it has more memory than a desktop 3080 (10GB) and it performs similar to a desktop 3060Ti or 3070. It is suitable as a workstation using the Studio drivers, or as a gaming machine using the Gameready drivers. There are other systems with up to 150-165W on the same video chip if you must have that last fraction of performance. All games run on this machine, most in Full HD Ultra or even better. There's plenty of other stuff to cover but for me the important parts were what I listed above. If you ask about things like frame rates I will say Yes it plays every game, and with a high power 3080 you really won't have to worry about exact numbers in most games. ... show more

Strong components need adequate cooling, but adequate is the most generous word applicable to the cooling in this device... It regularly idles at around 65C, and constantly threatens to hit 100C under load. Performance was what you would expect from what was advertised for the first couple months... If it already runs at 70+C in the first months, then I guess no one should be surprised to see the performance take a nosedive on month three. That's right, only three months later I'm regularly dropping into the mid-30FPS ballpark, on only 1080p! The touch screen works well, with some nice custom software for managing the extra space. Really makes me wish both screens were touchscreens, the top screen is a standard 1080p 60hz screen... ... show more

This laptop is impressive - it almost has it all. And for $3500+ you should expect it to be anything and everything of what you need it to be. However, there are just a few things that I decided that are important to me more than the second screen and I will list them here: 1: No HDMI 2.1 - this was one of the major factors that I decided warranted going in a different direction. I have a LG CX TV that I wanted to use in conjunction with a laptop or small form factor PC. Without 2.1, I can't get the full 40-48 Gbps for 4K 120Hz. I understand that a laptop 3080 has roughly equivalent horsepower as a desktop 3070 and that the additional overhead *probably* wouldn't be of any use, but I could spend a lot less on a small form factor PC (scalpers willing) and get the experience that I'm looking for. 2. Upper screen is not also a touch screen - this was something I wasn't expecting to be a downside for me, especially since the second screen is a touch screen. However for drawing and quality of life improvements that come with a touch screen, I found myself missing it. 3. No Thunderbolt - Another major one in my opinion. The previous offering had thunderbolt, why not this one? 4. No Camera - even a basic one would be nice If you've got the money for it, there's no doubt that you'll love this laptop. For me, this is the epitome of shooting for the moon and ending up among the stars. I will be returning mine because I know now what is more important to me, but I will look back fondly at the experience this laptop offered. The two issues I have was that the second screen is slightly too low, depending on how far I am from the laptop, and the lack of a camera. Great computer terrible screen. When you’re paying $3700 for a laptop (that’s actual msrp + tax) you expect a an excellent level of quality control. Everything about it was excellent minus the screen. The black light bleed as you can see was horrendous and visible even in bright scenes during the day. This is the second time this has happened to me from Asus and it’s extremely disappointing because I really wanted to love this laptop. Edit: People have asked what I ended up buying, I bought the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo with the RTX 3070. It’s wonderful, the OLED screen will never have backlight bleed issues and the two screens blend in better together. Performance wise they are almost identical.
