  • Great all around MB with a full feature set for Intel 10th Gen. Great all around MB with a full feature set for Intel 10th Gen.
I'm a first time builder, but installation was a breeze with the help of the manual and Youtube. A little skimpy on details for proper fan header usage, but that could be more related to my noob builder status (despite probably falling well into the "old man" category for PC gamers) more than the documentation itself. Installing an i5-10600K, high-end Noctua air cooler, 4 memory sticks for 64GB total, and 1 m.2 drive all went off easily, as did the necessary power and I/O connections. Everything worked properly the first time. From a feature perspective, it has all I could possibly need and more. Wifi 6, 2.5gbe (though not very useful until someone starts building 2.5gb routers), Bluetooth 5.1, all easy to use and good reception. Occasionally I pick up the wifi from a nearby hotel that's gotta be at least a quarter of a mile away. I'll probably never use all the available USB ports, but it's got loads of them in every flavor that's relevant in 2020. (At least one good thing to say about 2020.) I'm strictly a headphone user, but it's got superb 7.1 audio available, too. I can't even think of something I would like to have that isn't there. Overclocking is a piece of cake, especially for newbies. I've got my proc running at 4.8GHz, and 3200MHz on the memory and it's completely stable. Could probably do even better if I really knew what I was doing, but I'm just relying on the AI overclocking for now. Conventional wisdom is that the LGA1200 socket is going to support at least up to 11th Gen when it comes out (and Intel's 7nm woes make that even more likely), so future drop in upgradeability is built in. Also a good chance (but no guarantees) that it will support PCIe 4.0 when it shows up on the processors, though I'm not sure how useful that will be until several generations down the line. If gaming is your primary concern, this MB paired with the 10600K is where it's at today. For a productivity heavy workload, AMD is probably still a better bet, but personally I'll only be using some light to moderate Photoshop work, and possibly future personal/youtube video editing so I have no need to push things to the productivity limit with the radical price increases involved in doing so. YMMV. Overall, a strong recommend from me on this product. (Disclosure: By posting this review I am eligible for a 90 day warranty extension, but as the base is 3 years that's not a big deal. The opinions herein are my own and were not influenced by this bonus, just happy timing as I was planning to post a review anyway.) ... show more

  • Great MB for 10th-gen i9, with two display outputs, and wifi Great MB for 10th-gen i9, with two display outputs, and wifi
I purchased this MB for my new desktop with Core i9-10900K (10th gen 10 core CPU) and NZXT H710i. It's been a while since I built a new rig, so I wasn't sure what to choose but I always like ASUS, and a knowledgeable friend of mine recently got a new ASUS MB and likes it so I followed him. The reasons I picked this MB among many Z-490 MB are (1) there is built in wifi / BT (2) there are two display outputs (HDMI and Display port). I think this is the only ASUS MB that satisfies both. There aren't many MBs with two display outputs because most people who use Z-490 paired with the latest gen Intel CPU use external GPU or two so they don't need to use the Graphics that comes with the CPU and the display outputs using the graphics chip on CPU. But I use the PC for large-scale numerical simulations so I need a fast CPU but I don't need any graphics power. But I want to use two monitors, which is why I wanted to have two display outputs. So far everything is working great, including wifi. I read that the Ethernet connection on this MB might not work well, but I only use wifi so I cannot verify this claim. I might report it when I try wired network connection. The MB fits perfectly to NZXT H710i mid tower case. I even give ASUS Aura sync a try, and attached three LCD strips. They make the PC look great at night. I also use two Samsung SSD and AIO cooler (Kraken X73) on MB and they work perfectly. Using the BIOS it's easy to OC this monster. I don't use the software, which is so buggy and confusing, so I am inclined to drop one star, but since I uninstall the buggy ASUS software, I decided not to drop a star. So far I am very happy with the hardware (not so much with software). ... show more

  • Z490 Asus Rog E Strix GAMING
First off this is a fantastic board paired with the i9 10900k you cannot use anything but the 10th gen processors but this is still a amazing board it has all the features you need and the heat sync helps cool down the board a lot in my opinion you don’t need the higher end skews because they look cooler or have water cooling this board does it all if you want the most out of your 10th gen processor I would recommend this for sure to soothe your gaming needs it has maximum performances the bios is clear easy with no bugs and over locking is a breeze I would give this a 10/10 for sure, yes it is pricy but you have all the features you would get on a 600$ board for cheaper this runs with a 2060 super and a i9 10900k 240 FPS + in games like Fortnite chapter 2 season 4, Csgo, and pretty much every competition like game and 180+ on warzone also this board will support heavy overclocking as I overclocked my skew to 5.2 ghz and with a Corsair h100i platinum it never went over 40 C even with heavy loads of professional Fortnite endgames! Do not buy asus’ higher end skews this one has everything you will need to game and has tons of USB ports, I would pair this board with the new 3070,80,90 skews from the rog line as they would match perfectly and excel in performance if you have any questions just ask me @Xov#0266 on discord if you are reading this I hope you have the best day ever ... show more

  • A Fantastic MOBO for a 10th Gen i9 processor! A Fantastic MOBO for a 10th Gen i9 processor!
I'm a huge fan of ASUS. I have bought many things over the last several years that are made by ASUS, and every single one of them has been amazing, from monitors to routers, as they make some quality items. I recently decided to upgrade my computer from a 6 yr old i5 processor to an i9-10850K. After looking at their different MOBO's, I decided to go with the ASUS Z490-E. It was an easy install, with no problems. I have had plenty of places to connect my multiple SSDs. There are a lot of USB ports, so you shouldn't have a problem not being able to connect something. I had a USB hub connected to the prior computer. I have it connected to this one, too, but I still have several open USB ports on the computer itself, so I may just put the USB hub away into storage. The BIOS is really easy to get around in, even if it is in Advanced Mode. Novice users should not have much of a problem installing this MOBO. It comes with a nice manual that is easy to follow and easy to use. I have not used the integrated WiFi as I am hardwired to the router. All around great MOBO! I'll be adding a STRIX 850W PWS soon, once I can get ahold of a ROG STRIX 3080 GPU! ... show more

  • Great Motherboard! Great Motherboard!
It's been more than 4 years now, and everything has been great so far!. I love the RGB lighting and all the ports that come with it. BIOS update is easy and there have been many updates to this date. I wish intel didn't change the socket so fast so I could upgrade to ohter CPU. Releasing the GPU from the slot is a bit tricky specially with a big card but I think they solved it in the newer MoBos. AI overclocking really helps tuning the CPU performance and RAM performance. Really appreciate the debug LEDs specially the Q-code screen. ... show more

  • Pretty sleek motherboard for the price Pretty sleek motherboard for the price
If you are looking for a new upgrade for to a intel 10th gen CPU, this board has all of the bells and whistles for OC and not OC needs. Make sure your memory is compatible with the board on the ASUS website before you buy memory for this. I bought Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200 (PC4-25600) and 5.39 was not listed at the time of purchase and Amazon sells Hynix 8GBit MFR 5.39. I can say for a fact that this works and now it's listed as compatible on the ASUS site. I've read that 5.49 works but is not listed yet from forum posts on the motherboard. I did have a problem with one bent pin in the CPU socket, I didn't notice this to begin so I assumed it was the proc so I cleaned all the contacts. When I was going to put it back in the board from a different angel I noticed this. Rather than go update the ticket I made for ASUS and the long RMA/repair process, I requested a replacement through amazon. I only had issues with bent pins from ASUS, never gigabyte or msi which is strange. I don't know if ASUS made any changes to the repair center but I had the same problem with the Sabertooth X79 I bought 6-7 years ago and I was out of a computer for about a month. Other than that relatively minor yet time consuming problem, I have not had an issue with this board. nVME is working in PCI 3x speeds but theoretically it will handle PCI 4x speeds when the gen 11 processors comes out next year. It would be great if the optional fan was pre installed and a hardware switch or jumper was added if you needed it but that's just a minor annoyance. One thing I like is the armory crate. It automatically pops up when you installing windows and lets you know of drivers and updates. The NIC didn't work, but the WiFi did. That was taken care of in an update listed in the armory crate. That saves time due to not having to download from the support site a zip. One thing I noticed that the armory crate was wrong about is the bios. It shows BIOS version 0607 that came out on June 10th, 2020 when actually the new version is 1002, which just came out November 27. I updated it regularly through the EZ updater in the bios rather than the bios port with button in the back. Other than those relatively minor annoyance, I'd say it is a great board. 9/10 stars. ... show more

  • Great price on a high-end motherboard - But "used" means some items not included
Overall I am quite happy with this seller, the product was in excellent shape (no signs that the previous owner used powertools or ate ice cream while building) but was shipped in a static-bag wrapped in bubble-wrap. It was secure from damage but not in OEM box. Inside was also a ziplok bag with 2 SATA cables, 2 WiFi antennas, and (thankfully) an M.2 mounting kit with the itty-bitty screw. There was no manual or other accessories. - The sharkfin/blade antenna that these usually ship with was not included, just two 5 or 6 inch long antennas that screw right to the backplate. - There was no auxiliary fan to cool the chipset as shown in the manual. But, still a 5-star purchase since I got this MB for about half of retail. ... show more

  • Wow Might As Well Buy A Cheap Board Instead - The end of my Asus Only Preaching Days is over
A decade ago when I started building gaming computers for my boys I bought 4 different brand motherboards to give every brand a fair shake, and since that time I have been preaching ASUS was the ONLY choice, even with their excessive price. They had good instructions, they came with the hardware you needed ...blah blah blah....well Now you might as well save a hundred or two bucks and buy the cheap one, because this ROG STRIX Mother of all boards doesn’t even include the dang screws to mount the M2 drives ....Two M2 slots ... no screws. And because it is compatible with dual sided or single sided, good luck finding screws long enough....to fit the single sided. The instructions are also subpar and right in line with the cheaper ones now ......I expect this outta MSI, and such ...even the cheaper Asus boards I would tolerate it ...but seriously, the ROG STRIX boards ..come on ASUS ...LIVE UP TO YOUR BRAND and don’t sell to the minimum standard you can get away with. That’s what my competitors do, and it’s also why I stay on top the market. Asus is on the way down, if this is their new product line and business model for “Premier” gaming boards ....truly disgusted with this.....after spending an hour trying to interpret their instructions (JUST FOR MOUNTING THE m2 drives .....nothing more) and searching for a screw that might fight the 20 yard gap between the drive and the screw hole without twisting the board into an arc! Thanks Asus .... for selling out. I should have saved the hundred bucks and bought from your competitors. Man I am truly disappointed, beyond anything I could have possibly expected in this case. The time of my preaching ... show more
