  • Happy Upgrade from 3.5+ year old Strix GTX 970
Style: ROG STRIX OC
**March 2019 Update - Still working fantastically 3 months later. No artifacting, no crashing. Playing Apex Legends at 4K at around 80fps on med/high. 144fps easily at 1080p. Overclocks just fine. Stays cool just fine. I went for this upgrade when the Strix 2070 was on sale for $584 on Black Friday weekend. So far I have been completely happy with it, especially coming from a Strix 970. The 970 wasn't quite keeping up with the new 2560x1080 ultra-wide 144hz monitor I bought a few months ago. It has worked just fine with a 650w Gold PSU. Paired with a 4790k, Z97-A board, and 16 GB of DDR3 RAM (yeah, more upgrades are due in the future). The card came completely new in it's original sealed box and has been working flawlessly since installing it (No issues with a used card or tampered packaging). Performance has been about what I was expecting with about a 1.8x-2x jump/improvement over the 970. Witcher 3 Ultra/Max was seeing 120-130 fps in most places outside of the cities and 90-100 fps in larger cities. FFXV Ultra/Max with TRAM set to High was seeing 80-100 fps depending on how many enemies/people were around. I haven't had the chance to test many other games yet though (too busy with work right now). Running the GPU User Benchmark test while overclocked to +100 core and +300 memory results in usually a 140% - 141% rating which isn't bad compared to the average of 133%. Cooling is typical from what I'd expect from a Strix card. I haven't yet seen it cross over 68-70 degrees on games before the fans spool up (quietly; they're not noticeable to me with the sound from games) and cool everything back off to the 55-60-ish range. I setup the Asus Aura RGB software and have it set to cycle through all colors which gives a cool 'glow' to the entire case. I'm not a super hardcore gamer, a miner or a graphic designer so I was mainly looking for an upgrade that would simply 'keep up' with any game I try to play with between high and max settings while being future proof for at least 2 more years... and you never really know where ray-tracing or DLSS may be going in the future, so that's a 'nice to have' feature for now. tl;dr: Upgrading from a 3.5+ year old Strix 970 was 100% worth it for ultra-wide 1080p 144hz gaming. If I were on anything higher than a 970, I most likely would have skipped out on the 2070 until prices dropped down. ... show more

This thing is an elegant beast. I swapped out a GTX 1060 For it. I was excited and deleted msi afterburner and riva Tuner because I wanted to use GpuTweak2, I then found out it really doesn’t work, “for me at least. The gpu clock wasn’t displaying correctly and it doesn’t even work for my Ryzen 5 2600 cpu as far as watching the temps. 1080p on ultra for division 2 provided 60 to 100+ frames and the card was barely even warm 55c. *update 5/14. I run at 1440p 144hrtz division 2, fortnite, battlefield 5 with high refresh rates. Ray tracing I haven’t really tried. ... show more

  • Runs Great and Looks Beautiful
Style: ROG STRIX OC
My Build: CPU: Ryzen 5 2600X RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 16GB 3200MHz PSU: EVGA G3 850W GPU: ASUS ROG Strix 8OC rtx2070 Case: Phanteks p400 Eclipse So now that we know the build I will start by saying this Graphics card is amazing. I recently upgraded from a 1060 3gb, and man this is a beauty. I ordered this item Feb. 10th and so far have not had a single issue with it. I ordered it even after reading the reviews because its just to beautiful to pass up and ASUS ROG Strix are one of the best lines of GPUs out there. I have so far run several games on Max settings and am getting high FPS and beautiful graphics. For a test I did Monster Hunter World, Highest settings on everything and ran it for about an hour and a half to really get a good idea on the heat and to see how this baby held up. I posted a screen shot, the GPU temp did not go over 65 degrees which is awesome for my set up. I will update this post in a few weeks to add some more stats to the list. Now I do realize that most people said after 3 weeks to a month this card would break down and I am only at about a week. I will 100% update this review if I do see any issues in the next bit, though I do not see that happening. Hopefully they worked out all the kinks with this card because I am in love. ... show more

  • Initial purchase and replacement both failed right out of the box
Style: ROG STRIX OC
First I want to say that Amazon was fantastic throughout this process. They sent me a replacement next day (which also failed) and easily accepted back both cards with no shipping charge. So thank you Amazon, I appreciate how easy you made this. But you are selling defective cards. My system: MSI Z370-a Pro MB i7-8700k 16 GB ram EVGA 650w PS So almost instantly with both cards I got artifacting, then the GPU froze and then crashed the computer, forcing me to restart. This happened anytime that the GPU was under load. I included 4 pictures of the failures that I got. I tried everything to make this work. I uninstalled my old Nvidia drivers, made sure Windows was up to date, checked my power connections, nothing worked. I plugged in an old GTX 1060 to make sure that my computer wasn't the problem, and the 1060 worked perfectly, not problems even after a 20 minute stress test. After doing some research online, there is some belief that cards made with Micron memory modules were the ones having problems. I looked up what kind this card had using the program GPU-Z and sure enough both cards they sent me had Micron memory. I read that cards manufactured after Jan 2019 use Samsung memory and there is no longer an issue. But the cards I was sent had Micron and failed right out of the box. Again, the good thing about this is that they failed quickly enough that I could just send them back to Amazon and not have to worry about a manufacturer RMA which could take weeks. If you have this or any other card and it fails after 30 days, Amazon wont accept the return and you will have to get it repaired by the manufacturer. I didn't have to go through that process, but you could be without a graphics card for weeks in that scenario. If you do decide to buy this card, do a lot of stress testing right away to make sure your card is stable. Run high demanding games and run synthetic benchmarking tests to make sure your 2070 is working. At stock settings, there's no reason a card like this should fail even after hours of game play or testing. I hope this helped, and good luck ... show more
