BOTTOM LINE: If you're an overclocker, this is not a board that's going to hold your hand. It doesn't have the diagnostic features that less confident system builders have come to rely on. This is old school overclocking, and as someone who has been building/overclocking systems for 17 years, I LOVE this board. I did need to use another CPU to flash the BIOS to accept my Ryzen 5 3600X, so keep that in mind if you're buying this for a Zen2 build. A bit of a pain, but for the great price of this board, who cares? VRM COOLING: As others have said about the VRM heatsinks, they're not the best thing out there for sure, but work great with some airflow. I have a 120mm low speed fan blowing over the socket because I'm watercooling my CPU with a custom loop, and with Prime95 the VRM's stop heating up at 61c after 45 minutes. The VRM cooling is fine for a 6 core or 8 core, but a 12 core is probably not ideal on this board, but it would definitely run one, just don't expect to be hitting 5GHz (obviously) and give the VRM's some airflow. RAM compatibility: RAM overclocking on this board was a pleasure. Just make sure to move your case reset switch to the CMOS jumper on the board to save yourself the headache of shorting the CMOS pins with a screwdriver to clear the CMOS if you push too far and the board won't boot. I was able to get my Ripjaws V 3200Mhz to 3600MHz pretty easily on 1.38v, and could probably run 3800MHz, but don't see the need as I'm already getting better results than just about every similar 3600X build I see. OVERCLOCKING: Let's be real, overclocking is dead on Zen2, however, RAM overclocking is very much alive and worth it. But I was able to get an all-core overclock of 4.3GHz at 1.36v with my 3600X, but ABBA BIOS has my CPU hitting 4350MHz all-core with stock settings + PBO, so manual overclocking is pointless and only does better in certain situations, with much higher temperatures and voltages. Not worth it. FEATURES: This board probably has all the features you need, so here are the *relatively* important features this board lacks for overclockers/storage needs: No BCLK adjustment, No PCI-E spread spectrum adjustment, and obviously no PCI-E Ver. 4.0. AUDIO: The onboard audio, while better than most, is still barely passable. It's very flat and dry, and lacks the clarity and dynamic range you'll have with a good sound card. Believe it or not, sound cards are still relevant if you care about good audio, because coming from an old school X-Fi Platinum, this doesn't even come close and I'm finding it very hard to enjoy music like I was with the X-Fi. I'll be adding a sound card to this system, it needs one. RGB: Ugh, who cares? Yes, it has RGB. Yes, it works. Yes, the software works too. I set it to a static color because anything else just pointlessly eats up CPU cycles in the background. Honestly, I would've rather had more money put into the audio solution versus this stupid trend of pretty seizure inducing LED's. More power to you if you like it, but personally I think the board looks excellent with or without it. CONCLUSION: I'm very happy with the board apart from the very average audio. Everything else has been great, and this system is monstrously fast for the price, and it's rock solid stable with my RX 5700 XT. It leaves my old Xeon X5675 @ 4.8GHz build in the dust. ... show more

Nice board but quirky and frustrating RAM issues

I bought this board because I wanted to upgrade to the new Ryzen 7 2700X processor from my older Intel build. I was running a i7 5820K Intel 6 core processor, and the reviews on the 2700X intrigued me enough to push me over to AMD for this new version of my gaming rig. The install of all the components was fine, but getting the RAM to work was frustrating. I paired the board with this memory: CORSAIR Vengeance RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3000MHz C15 Desktop Memory. I read that two DIMMS were easier to make work than 4, and I wanted 32GB, and the Corsair was reasonably priced in comparison to some other brands and speeds of RAM. This RAM was on the QVL list for the board for 2nd gen Ryzen processors, so I felt confident it would work. Well, the board wouldn't recognize both sticks of the RAM. The instructions state to put the RAM in slots B2 and A2 on the board, and the BIOS could see both ram sticks, but only one was usable. So, I switched them over to A1/A2, which worked, but now the RAM was running in Single Channel instead of Dual. I then upgraded the BIOS in the hopes that the newest version offered better compatibility with the RAM. I did that, switched the sticks back to B2/A2, and low and behold it worked! Both sticks were recognized and usable. I was able to set the XMP profile for the RAM and it ran at the rated 3000MHZ. It was a bit more work than I was used to, but every system build seems to have one issue or another. Easy AI Tuning Overclocking is possible with the board, which I tried, but overclocking the 2700X sacrifices it's turbo (benchmark rated the processor at 3.9Ghz, and average turbo at 3.8Ghz!), so I went back to stock speed (3.7Ghz) with the 4.3Ghz turbo. Overall I am pleased with the board and the components I installed. They are meshing together well. My build scored in the 88% percentile for similar builds on UserBenchmark, which isn't bad considering I did not spring for top of the line memory/GPU. ... show more

Works perfectly, easy BIOS setup, cheap for what you're getting! Lot's of gamer-friendly options including an easy mode in the BIOS for non-techies. Paired mine with the AMD Ryzen 2700x and 16GB of Corsair RAM. It's been perfect. Software is full-featured and easy to use, unless I'm editing larger bitmaps or video I use the desktop settings to put it in quiet (and I mean quiet!) mode. Awesome, solid board. Recommend you flash it up tho the latest rev. before installing Windows. It was not tolerant of two different USB 3 add-in cards so be prepared for that in case you have additional port to activate; in my case I have a front-panel add-in with a bunch of USB & SD ports. I was able to connect the USB 2 ports but there was only one USB 3 connector for the case connector so I came up a little short (not a big deal though). No tech support grade, didn;t need any - this thing was easy. ... show more

ASUS Prime X470-Pro AMD Ryzen 2 AM4 DDR4 DP HDMI M.2 USB 3.1 ATX MotherboardSo this is my first ever Ryzen build (2700X) and my 1st 8 core CPU. No thanks to Intel for keeping their 8 core CPUs out of mainstreamers reach with ridiculous prices. My previous system was a i5 6600K @4.7Ghz, awesome build for just gaming. Anyways, after assembling the system and powering it on for the very first time, monitor did not show anything. The system had power and all the fancy LED lights and fans were on. So what I did was swap my RAMs from A1 B1 to A2 and B2. Then the system boosted just fine! At first I thought the lastest BIOS update would fix it. But even after the latest BIOS update the system doesn't post if I install the RAMs in A1 and B1. After you move the Ram sticks to A2B2 you might want to take out the battery, disconnect the power cord and reset the CMOS by sorting the two pins. Coming from the Intel platform I must say, the BIOS is a bit different on Ryzen. On the Skylake, I only had to adjust vcore for CPU voltage. But in Ryzen it seems there's a second voltage to look out for, SoC voltage. I manually set my voltage to 1.375 but HWinfo has shown the max it hit as 1.5v so I guess I need some more tweaking to do. I'm using a really old Crucial 2400Mhz cl16 Ram which I bought when Intel Skylake first came out. I was able to OC it to 2700Mhz with the Intel system but couldn't do it on the Ryzen, just didn't post. Hopefully later if the Ram prices drop I would upgrade it to 3200mh c14 Ram. After setting up the drivers I had Windows update running in background and I thought of testing out AC Origins on this system. I was gaming for a about 5 mins and notice that all fans including the CPU fan had stopped for whatever reason. And because of this the CPU temp was well over 90 degrees, so I powered it down and let it cool. After fully updating windows, I tested the game again and everything was good! I'm going to install Adobe apps and will update more info soon. One of most annoying issues I got is that Asus AI suite, CPU-Z and HWinfo shows completely different vcore and CPU speed readings. So I have no idea which one is right. I have yet to install Ryzen master. Oh and right now I'm using the stock cooler that came with the 2700X and idle temps at at 43 celcius ambient at being around 24. Have to use this cooler until I get the AM4 mounts for my NH-D15. Thanks AMD! UPDATE 23-May-2018: I got the mounting kit for my Noctua NH-D15 and now my system idles at 30 celcius while being OC'ed to 4.22Ghz at 1.4v in BIOS! Huge thermal headroom compared to the stock cooler. When all cores are stressed to 100% it peaks at 60 degress! With stock cooler when stressed without OC it goes into 80s. UPDATE 29-May-2018 OVERCLOCKING: When i first got the CPU i found that 1.425v in BIOS with LLC on Auto gave me a rock solid 4.2Ghz OC. But then I kept seeing this strange vcore changes. At idle, the vcore stays around 1.4v to1.412v. But when I stress the CPU with any intensive task, the vcore drops and stays around 1.362v! That was weird. Less vcore with stress and more vcore when idle. lol So what I did was after a couple of tests, I manually set my vcore in BIOS to 1.387v and LLC to 5 and now the system always at this vcore even when stressed to 100% and even in idle! NICE. I found that LLC5 was needed to keep my vcore there. When i set the LLC to 4, the vcore drops down from 1.387v to 1.362v when stressed and causes Prime95 to crash. With LLC5 it stays at 1.387v when stressed with Prime95 and I didn't even had to raise the vcore! So in short, please don't leave the vcore and LLC on Auto. When you OC please set your LLC too. Updated: June 4 I just found out that this Mobo doesn't support bclk overclocking. There's no option for this. Asus wants you to buy the more expensive Crosshair version of you want that feature. Bummer! Also the PBO doesn't work with this Mobo. I have my CPU at lower that 50 degrees and in non of the games does it boost to 4.3Ghz. Not even 4.2Ghz while gaming. If you want an awesome board with external clock generator and 10+2 pahse power with all OC features, go the the ASrock Taichi. Cheaper than Asus CH boards. ... show more

Great board for overclocking Ryzen 7

Got this board because my MSI B450 Tomahawk got hit with the bad Agisa update that locked it to Ryzen 3 boards. Even though I had to replace it I'm glad I did, this board is really well built with great lighting software. The audio chipset is amazing as well and is extremely clear. Build quality is good as well and has a good weight to it. Overclocking support is great as well, I was able to get my R7 2700 (non x) to 3.7Ghz @ 1.4V stable on all cores and have had 0 issues. the dual M.2 bays are convenient as well and the board supports all standards of M.2 drives. The reinforced PCIe slots are a bonus as well since I am running crossfire with 2 heavy MSI RX570 cards and the sag is barely there (still have to prop up the bottom card but this is due to my case doing intake from the bottom of the case). Bios isn't as easy to navigate as other boards I've used but its not bad, if you don't want to manually overclock you will be fine tho as it has a handy auto overclock feature which I did try out and it worked well. On average it gave me a 7%-9% overclock (I use a radiator so your mileage may very if you use an air or stock cooler). Would definitely recommend this board to anyone who needs a good board for overclocking but doesn't need all of the fancy ROG features. ... show more

Good no frills quality motherboard. The lack of insane RGB compared to the ROG version attracted me to this model. I like a professional look and not a 13 year olds wet dream, and this model mostly delivers that. There is a little bit of RGB but nothing crazy. Was able to get 3200 MHz CAS 14 memory working immediately with zero problems, updated Bios with zero problems, Bios is easy to navigate. Installation was a bit of a pain but I feel that may have been more related to this being my first fresh build in eight years. It took a LOT of force to line it up with the standoffs near the IO shield, I was worried about breaking it when it finally went into place. Also if you are using the M.2 NVME slot with the heatsink make sure you use a small precision phillips head designed for electronics.. cannot remember 100% but it is either the #0 or #00 size. You will definitely strip the screws if you try to use a larger one. ... show more

Intel NIC and supports ECC RAM

This motherboard has been reviewed by several YouTubers and they have mostly mentioned the lack of some features, such as indication LEDs and a few others that would have made this board easier to work with and the heat spreaders on the VRMs being a little on the weak side. That said, I use this in a more productivity setup using several VMs, GNS3, etc. It has a Ryzen 2700X and 32GB of RAM installed. I gave this 5 Stars on the merit of being capable of being a decent home or small business server board for Virtualization, NAS or workstation as it supports ECC RAM (according to ASUS's site) and has an Intel NIC. I was able clock the RAM to 3200MHz easily and as others have said the overclocking options in the BIOS makes it easy. This was my first time upgrading my Rig this extensively. My old MOBO was 8 years old so I had a haul ahead of me. The Manual really does a good job of pointing out where things are and how to connect all the wires. I dont plan on OverClocking myself since the Ryzen 5 2600 i got to go with this at base it says 3.4 GHZ but its hitting 3.7 GHZ normal at around 30c consistent since I bought this 16 days ago now so. I game a lot and it blew my mind playing Rainbow 6 Siege with my old rig i'd be around 45-50 FPS, now i'm peaking at 120 FPS and lowest was 75 FPS :D ... The Bios for this MOBO is really great in categorizing all the functions and everythings easy to find. My last MOBO didn't let me use my mouse to move around and being able to with this is a godsend :D ... ... show more
