  • We like it we don't have anything bad at the moment to say about it five stars
Color: Red
We like it we don't have anything bad at the moment to say about it five stars. 1. Ear pads and head pads are leather and thicker A lot more cushion than the stock ones 2. The plastic side caps have rubber on them where the stock ones do not, astro said this helps to reflect the sound differently making it more of a close system also 3. The boom mic has different Parts/upgraded in the mic than the stock one, it is a little longer and you can bend it in front of your mouth more than the shorter one We read a lot of reviews there was a real mixup and many recommended not buying it but we went ahead and bought it and we like it that's our experience with it and how we feel After we use it a while will update, so far 100 % we like these and they are better than the stock ones, way way more comfortable 1000%, we would recommend these 100% to anybody, bouncing your head around and excited when playing video games the mic can fall down little bit, wearing it casual just playing the game we've had no problems, stock Mic is a little shorter and doesn't have as much Pull so if you want to rock your head around a lot or jump up and down you might want to use the stock mic. Use the mic they came with the mod kit and we like it a lot. After using this for a little while in no way are they less they are way better than the stock ones absolutely, when reading some of the other reviews they talk about the sound and other aspects that they're not that good we use these and we have the latest headset it improved it, {{{you can't hear the sound outside as much and it's definitely thousands of percent Way more comfortable, and the mic works great.}}} Is the mod kit worth the price yes, I know things are a little expensive today but this money is well spent and really makes a big difference on the headset hope this helps others, Thanks for making the headset mod kit for a40 tr, to the company and people that work there, Astro. ... show more

  • A Terrific Modkit!
Color: Red
So far I am very pleased with this modkit, even though I just received it. The process of swapping out the earcups/ear cushions, microphone, speaker tags, and even the headband, is INCREDIBLY easy. I was under the impression that the headband would be an absolute pain to remove, but it was so simple. Just follow the diagram on the box, and you'll swap everything in and out in under a minute. Admittedly the next thing that also concerned me the most, apart from the headband, was the microphone. Many people have said that the mic falls down way too easily, and I can say that it does fall down easier than the stock mic. However! Unless you are moving your head in an extreme motion from left to right, for example, then the mic will pretty much stay where you have it placed. Also it is worth noting that the material used for the headband, and earcups, is super soft. If you go by the pictures, the "leather" might seem uncomfortable, but that is certainly not the case. The noise isolation would be the main reason why you are getting this headset though, everything else aside. For me the noise isolation is not as aggressive as I thought it would be, but you can definitely hear less background noise with a noticeable increase in bass. Ultimately I think this modkit is worth $60, seeing as how you would normally have to buy a second pair of headsets/headphones if you wanted a closed back option after settling on an open back one. ... show more

  • Passive noise cancelling is surprisingly good - Wife seal of disapproval.
Color: Green
Not really an "upgrade", but a side-grade. The Astro A40 TR's ship with open earpads and earplates. This basically means you can hear your IRL surroundings almost like you're not wearing headphones at all. That may seem undesirable at first, but there are positives to that design. Far less ear fatigue with air reaching your ears regularly, and a more open sound stage give you a bit better depth to measuring enemy distances. This comes at the expensive of less bass and the possibility of background noise like city traffic interrupting your immersion. These faux leather eapads that come with the Mod Kit, as well as the headphone plate do an exceptional job of sealing the headphone to my ears. I can actually feel the air pressure as I put on the headphones. It strongly muffles passive sounds, like traffic, running water, or a fan. You will have trouble hearing family, wives and anyone else who demands your attention. Depending on your situation, that may or may not be a good thing ;). Because of the air seal, low frequency sounds are much more prominent and your EQ presets may need to be adjusted to avoid too much boomy bass. There are negatives to the pads as well. They cause ear fatigue, as they get warm after an hour of play. And I have more noticeable trouble interpreting distance of sounds, even with Dolby Surround Sound enabled. In short, make a preset with less bass for the these pads, and have a preset with more bass for your original pads. Don't throw your old pads, mic out. Keep them stored away because these are situational accessories. Astro's magnet locks for their earpads and plate are excellent, and switching out these accessories is super easy (the headband cushion is a little tougher, take your time). This is a pricey accessory, but you will not be disappointed with how well it drowns out the world and puts you in the game completely. ... show more
