  • Better than Imagined
I ordered this for my son who is in aviation school. He actually said it was better than he even imagined. Works great and makes his flight planning so much easier. Highly recommend.

  • Great product, useful!
Incredibly helpful and worked as advertised when I took my ATP written exam. Highly recommend for any aviator no matter where you are in your career, and wish I could’ve bought this sooner

  • A little bigger than the average phone, twice as thick.
The size of it is what surprised me. It's like a large phone, think Pixel XL in size but twice as thick. As far as functions go, it's a digital whiz wheel so it's much quicker to do various calculations in flight. It also remembers data you have entered making moving to the next conversion much easier. I wouldn't say it's an outright replacement for the classic whiz wheel but it should find a home in any pilot bag that isn't already filled by an ipad. Last since it's FAA approved you can use it on your exam. The build quality is far better than I expected. The buttons have a nice rubber texture and a gentle click. The backlight cleverly dims and illuminates the buttons when set to night mode. There is a USB micro on one side which I assume is for firmware updates. The back battery fits very tightly, be gentle with it. The seller, Sportys, shipped the product promptly and in a large bubble envelope. The box the CX-3 was in had a small ding but it was perfectly fine. Best of all it arrived earlier than first predicted. ... show more

  • Love my ASA CS-3 Flight Computer
It works great, looks great, low battery consumption and delivers for each mission! Truly recommended! Not a substitute for the E-6B which is not battery operated keep in mind :)

  • Good computer. Could be better
The computer works very well and it is very helpful, but I’m not very happy with how it opens both for battery replacement and for the front cover. They are hard to get off, especially the battery side where you have to pull it off with a screwdriver or fingernails. It should have a design like my TI-83, especially with the poor battery life. It lasts 20h max. We should also be able to change the screen brightness independently from the keypad, and to a lower level. Choosing different colors for the themes would also be nice. Like the night theme should make all text red, they make it green and white instead. One feature they should add is time adjustment calculations for holding patterns, for adjusting the inbound leg based on your outbound leg time, while showing your previous outbound leg time, correction and new time. Also, I don’t know why they put the ‘star’ button on the left of the directional keys, displacing the left arrow one key to the left, those keys should be swapped. ... show more

  • Better than the Sporties E6B.
I purchased the Sportie's E6B and found it to be clunky, the buttons reminded me of one of those cheap calculators you buy from Walmart. The ASA buttons are all one piece which makes it feel seamless. The functions are set up in a very straight forward manner and the flight planning section is super easy to use. The only thing I would caution the potential student is make sure you know which radial you are using for the outbound(hold) course, sometimes test questions tell you the inbound and not the outbound radial so you have to put in the reciprocal. Fortunately this calculator includes reciprocal radials as one of its functions! This is a well designed calculator with the Pilot in mind, it is also completely OK to use on your FAA exams so no need to use the wiz wheel again. As a brand new student I would still recommend learning on the whiz wheel, you'll learn better how the relationship between DA and airspeed work, something you don't see on a calculator. My only complaint is that the battery life is a little low compared to a traditional calculator but that is really the only thing I can say negative about it. The insert that comes with the calculator is a great starting point for the functions. Would buy again just for calculating Climb/Descent for non standard departures. ... show more
