I have been using this motherboard since August, and it has been serving me very well! It allows me to do a stable overclock to 5ghz on my 5800XT processor, and has a multitude of features that are quite useful. I bought this for around $90 back in August, and for the price, it's great value. It's got good connectivity, with many USB ports. Overall, it's a great product.     • Easy upgrade!
I usually went with MSI motherboards but this ASRock ticked off everything I was looking for so I gave it a chance. I put a Ryzen 3500X and some Crucial memory in it, plugged it in and... nothing happened. Oops! Plugged in my graphics card and it powered up without a hitch. The B550 chipset , 4 memory slots, and cpu upgrade-ability were the key factors in choosing this motherboard, and for about $100 it was a no brainer. I ran mbr2gpt on my SSD, enabled UEFI in the BIOS settings and am all set to run Win11 now. Haven''t tried to OC it yet, will update when I do. ... show more

I picked this up as new, and you could tell from the packaging it was. I had to return a version that was labeled on good condition. This purchase was for an older processor and it needed wifi. Fortunately I had no wifi issues this time. The board is solid and the build didn't have issues. Be aware of the board's limitations. There is only one m.2 slot for ssd's. If you plan to use an APU be aware it has HDMI, no display port. There is no Bios flashback button so check the website to be sure your processor is supported, otherwise you'll need and older processor to update first.     • If you need Front Case (USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 - Type-C) or USB-C(U32G2X2_C6), look elsewhere.
[REAL REVIEW] Comes with a modern BIOS & supports CPUs as late as the Ryzen 5700X, will work on all Ryzen CPUs OOTB. This is a MOBO comes from when USB-C wasn't that common, so if your front USB header relies on USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 - Type-C you will have no working USBs in your front case; Consider another case. Wifi module is also pretty bad if you're not using 5GHz, 2.4GHz used 20-40mbps of a 500mbps maximum speed resolved by using 5GHz band. If you use LAN you are unaffected by this change. Probably has the best BIOS in the industry, very modern. MOBO is surprisingly small, will not fit a cooler bigger than a ID Frozen 410 & a GPU such as the RX 9060 XT(small card), something like the thermalright spirit 120 will physically press against the card & cause damage. It is a dated, but functional board with known compromises. Just be mindful of the above before purchasing. Asrock is a Chinese Owned Company, that HQ's in Taiwan, this may be problematic for some purchasers. ... show more

    • Simple, stable board for simple, stable use cases
Used this board and a Ryzen 5500 to assemble a very inexpensive dedicated folding rig. It's not fancy, it doesn't include a bunch of overclocking capabilities, however it's absolutely fine for a simple and capable setup. It's now running a 4090 and a 4070 Super under Fedora 42. When the GPUs are at idle, the system consumes about 45W at idle, about half of that is the GPUs themselves even at idle. If you need an inexpensive, non-frivolous Zen 3 board, this will fit the bill just fine. ... show more

    • The worst consumer motherboard I've ever used.
So, firstly, the UEFI backup battery is ‘not replaceable’. When I first saw that on the box I thought it was a sticker that was meant for a different product that got mixed up at the factory. I assumed that is was actually meant to be just a generic warning label about lithium CR2032 batteries and how swallowing them are dangerous or alike. Guys… They actually tried to make it non-replaceable. They glued a chunk of rubber behind the small metal spring tab that keeps the battery in the holder in an attempt to facilitate such an end. For what reasons, I haven’t the faintest clue. Secondly, correct me if I’m wrong, but PCI/e slots are meant to allow the easy addition or removal of addon cards to a system. The reason I say this is because the lower of the 2 PCIe slots hasn’t heard of such a concept, as attempting to remove the a card placed in the slot AFTER RELEASING THE LOCK resulted in the plastic of the slot removing itself from the motherboard, card still attached. The only real good thing I can mention is the Wi-Fi solution as it just a plain M.2 laptop Wi-Fi card, meaning it’s easily replaced for repairs, upgrades or alteration if you want to use something like a 4g LTE card or want a specific feature set from a certain model of Wi-Fi card. It also comes with one included. It’s a pretty typical Intel Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card that was shipped in a bunch of HP laptops, making driver support and documentation about it easily accessible. But, because of course, there is a problem with it, that being that the ports on the back of the motherboard where you attach the antennas has little to no bracing, making it easily bent and at risk of damage. Now, this last part is nerd stuff and not applicable to the standard user, but I thought I’d mention it. The IOMMU groups of this board are TERRIBLE. The top 16x slot is in it’s own IOMMU group, making it ideal for separating from the system and isolating for use with a VM, but if you do use the top slot for a VM keep in mind the lower PCIe slot is not only fragile and temperamental, but it also only runs at 4x, meaning if you want to run dual GPU for working on Linux and gaming on a Windows VM, your Linux card is gonna be gutted in terms of performance.
