    • Solid detail brushes
I got these brushes for fine detail while oil painting. Out of the box they are quite good and I've enjoyed using them for fine line detail. Something to note since they are synthetic bristles, is that they don't hold solvent, paint, water, etc. like natural brushes would. This doesn't bother me as I knew this going in and how I'm using them doesn't require that they hold a lot of substance at any one time. They also need to be cared for the proper way, synthetic nylon has a tendency to fray/curl the bristles, so you should make sure to clean them properly. ... show more

    • Great value brushes for painting miniatures and the like
I'm really pleasantly surprised with these, for the fourteen buck price point. They hold a decent amount of paint, and it flows off them well. I've never used brushes like this with the triangular grips, and so far I'm a fan -- I think it improves fine detail control, and of course it also prevents them from rolling around, which is an advantage that hadn't occurred to me. There are certainly better brushes out there, for many times as much money, but at this price point they're a great value. I don't tend to use crazy high-end brushes anyway, and for me these have happily replaced my previous decent-but-not-amazing brushes wholesale. ... show more

    • Good brushes but they REEK
They're good quality brushes but oh my GOD, they came stinking of chemicals and paint thinner. Everything they were packaged with in my Amazon box smelled like paint thinner for days. I got these about a week ago and they STILL smell like paint thinner. I've had to put them outside to try to gas off or something. ... show more

First, for the price this is a very good deal for a basic fine-detail brush set, which is why it's a 5-star when a pricier set might not hold up under the same scrutiny. The packaging is kinda flimsy so mine arrived loose from the box in the shipment bag. Thankfully each ferrule came with a plastic protector attached so no brush heads were bent or damaged. Of the set, only a few brushes had stray hairs which were easily trimmed. The smallest 5/0 brush held more paint than I thought for such a small tip. The 1 seemed pretty versatile, able to hold consistent amounts of water and paint (your skill may vary). The largest 6 brush covered more as expected but I think the value is in having the smaller, fine detail brushes. The brush grip is what stood out to me the most, I really liked having the wide, triangular grip which also prevents them from rolling. ... show more

This is a great set of brushes if you're into painting miniatures. I find them easier to use than fine line "watercolor" style paintbrushes I've purchased in the past. The slightly shorter bristles seem easier to control, not to mention they are a much more economical option.     • Brushes didn’t hold their shape after single use
I have been painting for some time and recently used these detail brushes for a gouache painting. I happily received these brushes. The brushes arrived well packaged, and a plastic covering protected the brush tips. I rinsed each brush before use to ensure no material, such as starch or dust, was on the brush. The grips on the handles are nice. I used many of the brushes in this set for approximately an hour and a half while painting a gouache painting. The nature of gouache painting requires a constant cleaning of the brush, but a new brush should be able to deal with that. The brushes did not retain shape after approximately half an hour into painting. By the time I was finished, the brushes appeared similar to the detail brushes I have been using for over a year: scraggly and no longer coming to a pristine point. This is unacceptable and disappointing. Also, the brush strokes were not as smooth and even as they should be with new brushes. I could do detailed painting and initial my painting. It just wasn’t as crisp as brand-new brushes should do. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend these brushes for artistic painting. ... show more
