  • Portable, fun
I am still learning the app and how to create my images but first impression, it’s an easy set up, small, portable. (Don’t use it on your counters, it will in fact engrave them) . Looking forward to getting it down, but got it going on wood and am excited to see what it can do.

  • Nicely built, portable, precise, solid power, a bit hard to 'aim'
A slick, precise unit with a smart design but some quality control hiccups I originally grabbed the 3 watt version of this unit with the case, and while the case looks great I don't recommend getting it - it's a very tight fit, so I upgraded to this 7 watt without the case. Most of the parts are identical. This was also well packed, which is good because this is a surprisingly precise unit. That's even more surprising considering the _portable_ design. It folds basically flat for storage/carrying, but in about 60 seconds you can swing out the legs, move the arm into place and plug in the laser. It's really pretty slick. A flat wrench is included so you can carefully remove the laser module power plug without damaging it, and a handy material/power/speed chart is in the manual. This supports wireless and I spent a lot of time with the MKS Laser app already and intensely dislike it. The wireless setup is easy enough to connect and works well, but the iOS app is painful to use. So this time I set up LaserGRBL and it was soooo much nicer by comparison! The 7watt is again basically identical to the 3w, it just saves you time. There may be a couple more materials it can handle just from the extra power but both cut fine details, this just does twice as fast. I used LaserGRBL to create a test pattern on the back of a slate tile (pic) and realized I was underestimating how much power this has. From the chart you can see this was halfway to 'white' at 20% power with the head at high-speed. I not only was able to cut coasters at max speed, you almost half to! All in all this is a nice unit with the added twist of you could easily throw it in your pack and break it out at a trade show. The total power used isn't much -- you could operate this for some time with nothing but a battery bank. There is one main negative with this design - it's very hard to align the work. It's hard to tell where the burn is going to start because the laser is behind the shroud and the lack of frame makes it hard to know where the origin is. My unit as delivered had some quality control issues. - The included safety goggles were a little scuffed. The same ones with the 3W unit were spotless. - A shim is included to focus the laser. It's supposed to be 2mm thick, but this one is only 1.8mm thick. It still cuts fine so maybe it doesn't matter, but I want to try it with a better 2mm focusing shim to see if it helps. - It needs a better air system than the little fan on the laser. The 7W can really burn things black without enough airflow. And the main issue - the mounting rails on the laser head were not well made and 'wavy' (pic), so much that it was hard to even slide the laser into the mount. The rails on the 3W laser were perfect, so this one was just wrong. As you can see in other pics, the plastic rails were so far off that as I installed and uninstalled the head, the mount was actually grinding off plastic each time. Over enough times, the mount basically 'wore' the laser rails straight, so it works fine, but with the 3W unit all of this was just perfect. So for this price point, I like the high quality burns, but just know that there's a learning curve and portable convenience comes at the cost of precise positioning. ... show more

  • Compact, Versatile, and Great for Crafting
This item arrives neatly enclosed in a product box that includes the laser engraver itself, the required accessories, and the information needed to begin setting up the device. After removing everything from the box, I was pleased to find that this engraver has a compact design that is very different from many of the larger laser engravers I have seen. The foldable frame makes it easy to store when not in use, which is a great feature for anyone like me who likes to dabble in a variety of different crafts and doesn’t have anywhere near enough room to leave everything set up between uses. Setting up and using this engraver is relatively straightforward. This device can be controlled through a smartphone app for simpler projects, or you can connect it to a computer and use LightBurn or GRBL software for more advanced designs. This was the first time I had used an engraver, so I stuck with using the app only and made a very simple design that came out far nicer than I expected for my first project. The 7W laser provides plenty of power for a variety of crafting materials, including wood, leather, acrylic, bamboo, paper, and coated metal. The 200 x 150mm work area is a nice size for smaller projects such as coasters, signs, leather patches, and personalized gifts. While this is not designed for very large projects, the smaller footprint makes it much easier to keep on a desk or store away when you are finished using it. This is perfect for me because one project I really wanted to do was a Christmas ornament for each person in my family, and this is the ideal size that will allow me to do that without taking up a ton of space. Overall, I think this is a great option and a fantastic value for anyone interested in adding laser engraving to their crafting hobbies but who doesn’t want a large, permanent machine taking up valuable workspace. The combination of portability, material compatibility, and multiple control options makes this a very versatile device for DIY projects, personalized gifts, and creative crafting. I am looking forward to all of the fun things I will be able to make without requiring any of the effort that I once thought was needed for many of the designs that this machine can produce. ... show more

  • This feels like a gateway tool. It teaches you just enough to want a full garage setup.
This is perfect for a hobbiest! It isn’t going to be the engraver that slices out wood forms, but it does a good job with detailed renderings on many materials. We’ve tested wood, PLA, and PETG with decent outcomes. There is a bit of a learning g curve, and we are using Dell laptops for the image programming. That said, my kids had it figured out within an hour. So much depends on the quality of the design you put in as well, so we had better results with highly pixelated images over things we copied or created ourselves by hand. I love that it’s small enough to fold away, because if you are anything like me and you decided that this is the next thing to try, do you likely have a whole bunch of equipment for every other craft hobby market. Having something that folds away is needed. This would make a great gift for anybody considering trying laser engraving, or for somebody who wants to test the waters at a low entry cost. My kids are having a blast personalizing everything we own. Everybody is getting a personalized keychain from my kids for the holidays at this rate. ... show more

  • Very compact, light, easy to store and carry around. Big Learning Curve !
So this doesn't come with specific software, although it does recommend light burn for mac/pc. There is a learning curve for sure and what I dislike the most is the actual alignment of where you want it to start. Its almost impossible to get it right. You basically need to etch your design into wood, metal or something, that way you can place your actual project where you want it to begin. I don't think there is anything wrong or bad with the laser itself, but do not plan on it being easy, watching youtube videos help, but plan on spending a few hrs just to get to learn software to be able to use this device. It is compatible to work with a mac and or a pc, it isnt large by any means and folds up to be very compact, very light weight and versatility is definitely there, its a good value for the money. Most importantly you would have to know how to use the software to really be able to review this product well, I am not there nor do I really have that much time to commit to write a quality review. ... show more

  • Fun Tool for Creative Projects
I picked this laser engraver up for small hobby projects and custom gifts, and it has been a fun machine to experiment with. Assembly was fairly straightforward, and the app-based controls made it easier to get started than I expected. I've tested it on wood, leather, and a few coated materials with good results once the settings were dialed in. The foldable design is convenient because it doesn't take up much space when not in use. Like most engraving tools, there is definitely a learning curve, especially when figuring out the right speed and power settings for different materials. The work area is best suited for smaller projects, but that's exactly what I wanted. For crafters, hobbyists, or small business owners making personalized items, this is a practical and enjoyable tool. ... show more

  • Laser on the go!
For the price, I'm very surprised at how nice this is! It's very user-friendly and portable, so you can take it on the go. I've used it in my workshop and on a merchant table at a craft show, so it's extremely versatile. The build is fairly nice for the price, meaning it's durable where it needs to be, but it certainly is a great laser! ... show more
