Okay, there are a LOT of components to explain here. This set includes 18 drawing pencils (ranging from 4H to 14B), 4 charcoal pencils (3 black pencils, from hard to soft, and a medium white pencil), 3 paper blending stumps, 2 woodless pencils (4B and 6B), a hobby knife, 3 types of erasers (pencil, block, and kneaded), and a metal sharpener. Each has its own functions and abilities for the beginner. The pencils are great for sketching and practicing cartoons and other art styles. The charcoal pencils can be good for rough sketching. The blending stumps can be used to smooth out and blend the pencils. The erasers... well, erase. The hobby knife is very useful for cutting things very precisely. This set is good. The set is almost perfect for me. You get a variety of graphite options and charcoal including a white charcoal pencil that I really wanted. You get three types of erasers that all work great. All the pencils are labeled and easy to read. Some of the pencils are a little thin but I have big hands. I still like them and they look great. You also get three blending stumps that I like. The tin case is really nice and everything inside is well organized. The only thing I can say negative is the plastic is a bit thin and feels cheap but not really a big deal. The one item I didn't care for was the pencil sharpener that wasn't to good. It was to small and it wasn't that good at sharping the pencils. I have a good manual and battery operated sharpener already so it wasn't deal breaker at all. I would recommend this set. I personally use this set at work so I can draw on my breaks and so far other then the small things I mentioned above I love it. ... show more

This was a perfect gift for my nephew! He used it as soo as he unwrapped it and loved it!! The pencils are great for drawing and sketching. There are a lot of soft pencils great for shading. The hobby knife was sharp and came with a lockable(snap) to so it would not easily fall off. He hasn't put it down yet, just drawing all day. ... show more
