I purchased a set of 4 Arlo Pro Spotlight cameras that included a “trial subscription.” When the trial period ended, my 4 cameras would trigger, and I was sent a notification, but I was unable to view any of the recordings. I chatted with an Arlo tech support person, and I was told that there is what amounts to a “work around.” I was advised that by purchasing an Arlo base unit, I’d be able to continue to use my cameras similar to the way that they functioned during the trial period. I purchased the VMB5000, synched my four cameras to it- but the cameras did not work. I chatted with a second Arlo tech support person who advised me that I needed a class 10 SD card. I purchased this MICRO card through Amazon, and when it arrived I searched and eventually found the well hidden micro SD card slot. It’s at the bottom of the base unit. The Record locally toggle switch recognized the SD card; and after following the prompts- I successfully formatted the SD card. I activated both the “record locally” toggle switch, as well as, the “direct storage access” toggle. At this point- I was able, while in Wi-Fi mode on my iPhone, to view captured triggered videos from each camera similar to when the trial subscription was active. However, when I was out of Wi-Fi range, once again, I could no longer view any triggered camera videos. Upon further reading, Arlo states that viewing triggered camera videos, remotely, that is, out of Wi-Fi range can be accomplished with by using a VPN, or by using Port Forwarding. I watched a YouTube video, loaded my ISP’s (Spectrum) App onto by iPhone, and with a few inputs*-I’m happy to say that it works. I can, now, view triggered camera videos either locally, or remotely with my iPhone via the cell phone network. *Arlo app >Devices >Smart Hub/Base Station/Bridge >tap on the base station >Local Storage(storage settings) >activate: Record Locally Direct Storage Access >tap on: Port Forwarding >activate: Enable Port Forwarding Write down the internal and external port numbers- you will Input these on your ISP’s router. I was fortunate I found a YouTube video with instructions for setting up my ISP, Spectrum, router. Good Luck! (FYI: The VPN setup is believed to be more secure than the port forwarding setup- I may explore the VPN option, there are free VPN apps, and there are subscription VPN apps, as well, but my whole thing was to eliminate yet another monthly subscription.

I left the 3 the letter security company after 5 years due to rising prices, constant trouble shooting and 45 min calls with horrible music all while they said my time is important to them. I took a chance and Im so glad I did. These Pro 4 cameras, I can do this security thing myself, they're crystal clear, literally like looking out your window, when your away from homebase. Definitely, 5 stars any day of the week. Very easy to install w/magnetic mounts which I preferred, easy-to-use app, battery life on a single full charge is about 3 months. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

These wireless cameras are basically useless. The batteries only last three days. That’s with power management set to the lowest level. That means low video resolution, no use of the spotlight, etc. You would expect the batteries to last longer. It’s very impractical to have to recharge the batteries every three days. That means either having extra batteries on hand (they’re expensive) or waiting a day for them to recharge. That means your security system is down for an entire day while the batteries recharge. These cameras also frequently go offline for no apparent reason, even with a fully charged battery. The WiFi signal is strong, and they are within 20-40 feet of the router (varies by where I placed them). Refer to the photo for an example. Arlo’s troubleshooting help is useless because it blames everything except their crappy cameras. I recommend a different brand of camera. I’ll never buy Arlo again.

UPDATE- seller was very quick to respond and we got a return for the camera that was not working- excellent customer service. I knew these were refurbished cameras when I bought them however, I assumed they would all be in working order. One of the cameras is refusing to connect and seeing as I have installed over 10 of these cameras previously I know how to troubleshoot, and nothing is working. I have contacted the seller in hopes that they will replace the one camera and not make me take down the other three cameras I have already installed. I will update, once a resolution has been proposed.

I like the cameras but they aren't as good as I had hoped. The 2k video is good but not great. I can't make out a license plate more than a few feet away. All the cameras have a great wifi signal so I don't think that's the issue. The motion detection is the most disappointing feature. I have one pointing down my driveway and it doesn't trigger until it is almost past the camera. Sometimes it says vehicle detected, but the video shows nothing because the car has passed the camera. This is a driveway so speed shouldn't be an issue. I bought the solar chargers and they work great. All 4 cameras stay 99-100% charged. Without the solar charger they battery on last a few weeks. I also setup my deck camera to record when my back driveway camera detects motion. I can't get this feature to work. It works for my front 2 cameras but not the back. Odd... Overall, I'm pretty happy. I do think that I'll end up investing in some 4k POE cameras with a NVR .

We specifically bought these cameras to use in conjunction with HomeKit Secure Video and its facial/object recognition, however Arlo have prevented access to these features unlike their previous models (presumably so that they can charge for a subscription to their own cloud services). As such, these cameras will not communicate with Apple servers or completely integrate with HomeKit as expected, and so most of the advertised specifications and potential smart home applications have been restricted by the software. After some lengthy conversations with technical support, it is probably safe to assume that they have no plans to release updates to resolve these issues. These cameras do in fact require a smart hub to work at all with HomeKit, but you end up getting less functionality and diminished performance for a significantly higher price tag. In addition, the battery performance was surprisingly poor even for cameras that do not experience a lot of traffic, and the audio was buggy at best. We were expecting to be delighted based on all of the reviews and were happy to pay more for these cameras, but we were quite disappointed and had a nightmare trying to return all of the other accessories that we bought to go with them. The lesson we learned is to go with an older or less expensive model if you want something that will properly integrate with HomeKit.

These are some really nice security cameras. They were a little tricky to get set up on my router, but it wasn't really that hard once I turned off the 5GHz and only used the 2.4GHz band. After the setup I turned the 5GHz band back on and everything worked just fine.
