I'm an IT guy, and I've had Network Cable Testers before, but this unit is small, compact and you can disconnect that small side part to test a cable where one end is on one room and the other end may be way down the hall or another room or whatever. Very basic - does not do any fancy speed testing or connectivity - just shows that they're properly terminated. GREAT price! ... show more

Well worth the cost to verify your cables work. They seem cheaply made, but they work really well and helped us find a couple cables that had bad connections. We had a couple cat-5 cables where the crimp nicked a nearby wire and it was easy to spot and fix with these.

I was kind of forced to do some CAT 6 termination, which I've never done before. I wanted a simple cheap tool to verify that my work was correct. This did a great job of doing that. I was able to verify my work as well as pick up on the fact that some existing jacks were wired to a different convention than the current standard, so this enabled me to re-wire the other ends to make it work without connecting things and wondering why things weren't working. They seem built somewhat cheaply, but then, for an ethernet tester, the product is cheap (inexpensive)! I only needed it a few times to validate some ethernet cable runs in new construction before the drywall went up. It gave me confidence that everything was working. Pulled a mess of Cat5 throughout the framed house to support a building-wide sound system. After the drywall went up, I needed to terminate the cables and realized I hadn't thought about how I was going to make sure the connections worked. Uh-oh! Found this cable tester associated with the crimping tool I needed, and... ...Wow! I'm so happy I bought this. Most of the terminating connections were good, but a couple were kind of challenging, and if it hadn't been for this inexpensive & incredibly useful tool, I'd've drivn myself crazy trying to figure out what was wrong. Well, looking for an ethernet cable tester and was recommended this from a Youtube video. When I got it, I tried three fully charged 9V batteries in it ,and also three different RJ45 cables from working electronic equipment. Nothing was working with this tester. Sent it back asking for a replacement. When I got the replacement exact SAME scenario. Three fully charged batteries, three different cables from fully working equipment, and once again NOTHING !!!! So, back it goes as well ! Don't waste your money on this one. My rating would be ZERO stars if it was possible. Spent a few more $ and bought a Klein tester. Works wonderful. ... show more
