  • Great price

These fence post anchors sure speed up the process of putting up a fence, compared to the old way of digging a hole, depositing gravel at the bottom, bracing in a fence post, tamping wet concrete around, and then waiting for it to dry. The posts may not be as solid as concreted posts, however, should we want to move the fence at a later date, I bet the posts could be pried out of the ground and reused. In our case, the anchors should be solid enough as we won't have large animals rubbing up against the fence, and wind can blow through the hogwire. I can't say if the post anchors would hold up against strong winds for a solid fence made out of slats. The one drawback we found is the fins on the anchors sometimes flair off at an angle. This means the anchor twists as it is being driven into the ground. However, when we screwed the hogwire panels in, the screws pulled the posts flush to the panels. Another downside is it is too easy to drive in the anchors not plumb to the ground. Be careful and check often as you pound. We had to pull up one anchor because of this. However, a pry bar levered on a block of wood did this. We loved that the black anchors matched the hogwire and black screws we used. Makes a great-looking fence. ... show more

  • Excellent Option
Size: 24 inch
I was building a frame for a shade canopy over my koi pond. I didnt want huge 4x4 blocks that I usually use to secure 4x4's, showing in front of my yard. I dont have the means to dig the holes and bury in concrete nor did I want that since this may be a temporary project. They were much easier to hammer in than I thought. My fiance layed a short 2x4 across the top of them and hammered them right in. The first week before we had the project finished and our gussets installed, a storm blew in w 60mph winds and one 4x4 blew over and broke a weld on one of these. I actually had an extra so we were able to put it back up right away and he will reweld it someday. Otherwise I believe these would have held up had they not had such force on them without any support. I will paint the 4x4 and the brace all dark brown and they wont stand out at all in my front yard. ... show more

  • Sturdy and easy to use
Size: 24 inch
Well made and sturdy. Be sure to have a pounding block so you don’t damage the powder coat when driving. Also drive in the center to ensure it is level. You will also want to make sure it is set in the right place and positioned the direction you want as there is no twisting once set. I like how the post fits in snuggly and then there are two bolts to secure it further. ... show more

  • Sturdy and heavy

These stakes are very solid and sturdy. I buried them about 24 inches inside and it hold a 4"x4" to attach a heavy hose housing. Very stable and won't move.

  • Easier than digging & pouring concrete! But it has limitations. Here are some install tips
Size: 36 inch
I've used this type of anchor on several projects. In Europe they use a similar device for building foundations. They use a screw-in style anchor, which is superior only in that the bolt goes all the way through the 4x4 (or 6x6). I wish these had a bolt that went all the way through. On this, the weak spot is not the 36 inches under ground - it's the 2 little bolts. If using on a heavy fence, with any swaying, those bolts will strip or snap. So main question is, what are you using it for and will there be any down pressure to prevent swaying. So an 18 inch anchor may be suitable for a 4,000 pound deck, but a 36 inch may not hold a simple fence (depending on your situation). I used these particular anchors on a 6 foot fence. Actually I had some leftover 24 inch anchors, and I used both sizes, using the taller ones on the corners and for the gate door. In the end I don't think the size matters, it only matters if they get a lot of wind. If you do get an area with lots of wind, no worries, you can double up (two anchors per post), or add a small lean-to to your design to get some down pressure. The fence pictured is not very wind permeable (fabric), and I've had no problems in 5 months. We've had winds over 90 mph, which took down trees but the fence was fine (again, this was a mix of 24 and 36 inch anchors). If using for a 4 foot or shorter fence, using anchors is a no brainer. Digging and hauling/mixing concrete is a pain. But 36 inch is overkill for a short fence, you can probably use the 18 inch or 24 inch. I've never had an issue pounding them in. It's not exactly fun but it goes fast, takes me about 5 minutes. I drill a pilot hole in the ground first, which will tell you if you're going to hit rock or roots. It also helps get them in straight, so make sure to use a level while drilling. I have a long drill bit for this, but just a piece of rebar works in most drills. If the ground is hard, soak it with water. If there are a few rocks, it will work its way around the rocks. If you hit a big stone or layer of rock, that's another issue. I use a standard 8 pound sledge hammer, and put in a 4x4 remnant to pound on. Make sure the remnant if flat on top, so it goes in flat. If you don't have a 4x4 remnant, you can use two 2x4s. The hard part is getting it level. It's much easier with a helper to do the leveling while you hammer. Contrary to popular opinion, you do NOT have to dig them out. Getting them out is easy, using fulcrum method. Simply get a 2x4 under a corner, put some bricks or a crate a few feet away, and push down like a lever. If you can't get the 2x4 under a corner, then put a screw in the end of the 2x4, and rest it against one of the bolts. With a 2x4x10, you can get this out of the ground with like 5 pounds of pressure (finger tip pressure). ... show more
