It is a very solid and well made kit. However it is not easy to build. It does take two people to build and lots of cursing will be involved. The gate can be shortened or widened as needed if you have the ability to cut top and bottom rails and drill new holes. The boards can be vertical or horizontal. The 1 inch recommended boards are a very tight fit. I simply used a small piece of wood as a wedge to widen the gap so I could get each board in. Once I figured that out assembly was a breeze. You don't have to miter the edges of the boards. Hammer in your wedge block, slide in your board and hammer your wedge over to make room for the next board. Repeat till the end. They do fit. I did a horizontal gate and used plastic spacers to leave a half inch gap between boards. The gate is extremely heavy once built and will require two people to move. Each gate took about two hours to build. I would recommend using metal posts to hang the gate on as they are very heavy once assembled. ... show more

Material looks sturdy and looks good. Size is tricky, you need about 1" to 2" wider opening then in description otherwise you have to be creative. The seller WILL NOT PAY FOR SHHIPPING return. I bought the wider gate and it did not fit because it needed an inch wider opening. So I ordered this one. But before I received it I figured away to modify the posts for the wider gate to work. I was able to install the gate flush with posts and therefore it worked. I tried retuning this one, and even though it was still unopened they refused to pay for shipping. It cost me 60% of the price of the gate to ship it back. My advise is only buy this if you have a wiggle room in the opening size. You can easily change posts or install flush or something. You do not want to pay for shipping back but you will if it does not fit or if you changed your mind. Nonetheless, I do recommend it because of easy of installation and it looks good. I ordered a 4ft by 6ft gate with a optional curved metal bar. The gate only came as a frame and I needed to purchase the composite boards separately from a home improvement store. The instructions required that the boards be exactly 1 inch thick and so I did. when placing the boards into the channel, they didn't fit. the channel opening was 3/4 inch. I had to sand down to fit. Once I got all the boards in, one of the corners would not close in order to place the last bolts in. I'm 70 and disabled. It was impossible to move it due to the weight. For the cost, they should have included the boards and made sure the channels were an inch wide. The gate is unfinished and I will have to sale it for less. Gate handle is cheap and does not have a locking capability. I wish I could get all my money back for what it has cost me, plus the frustration. ... show more

This gate kit wasn't that difficult to work with, even though we had to cut it to size to fit our opening and desired hight. I read all the reviews and was a little scared but followed the advised of a few reviews and purchase thinner wood. Fence material in cedar about 5/8" in thickness. I cut it to size and after sanding and staining actually I was left with a lot of room for the boards to fit through the channels. I almost feel I should have gone with slightly thicker material to fit more snug. I wished these kits came in wider formats so we could use the same for our driveway. ... show more

This doorframe is super good and well made. One thing I have to say, it needs a little bit not whole a lot of talent and skills. Definitely not for kids to assemble. But overall all really happy and satisfied with it. I’m glad I bought it.

Although this was crazy hard to assemble, in the end, it looks great! We had to plane down our wood as standard .75 boards didn't fit perfectly. I bought custom milled boards, giving the shop the specs from the product description. Also, the final two screws didn't line up perfectly, so those had to be drilled out just a bit and thankfully, it doesn't show. The metal frame scratches very easily, so be sure to lay down a drop cloth for assembly. Also, the latch only allows the door to be opened from one side, so a rope or chain is needed, or a two way latch needs to be bought separately. The top arch can be filled with wood, but I was so over this project, I just installed it as seen and it's fine. ... show more

Took about 3 hours…. Let me start off that standard 6”x6ft pickets do not work! You must buy bigger because that half - 1 inch is crucial! So having to drive back to lowes and exchange pickets to 8ft then get home and cut them down is part of that 3hrs.not to mention what a waste of material and money that is. Also one of my corners came bowed so i had to take some time to fix that because the bolts are to short for that mess…. Then you must cut down the last picket to about 4” in width (i don’t remember the exact measurement) so it is preferable if you have a table saw to get a long straight cut. After all that work, the gate looks pretty good, except the damn arch at the top was not made to size. So now i have to call and complain about that cause that was the kost important piece to me. Im not sure how long it will last as it is all just bolt and nut. I’ll have to go back and add threadlock to all of them one by one…. ... show more
