I've had these boots since 2015 and I've abused them so hard. I used them primarily working at restaurants and kitchens in the food service industry. I'd wear these boots all day and then late into the night. After work I'd keep my boots on and work on my car doing general maintenance or repairs. I've honestly abused my boots so hard and never really properly took care of them. Here we are 2022 and the boots are still relevant and comfy. One thing I would like to mention is when I first bought the shoes I got an insert (Dr Schols) and used that instead of the stock insert. Why? I don't remember why I switched it out but it was more comfortable doing so. Since I've had the shoes I replaced the insert twice. The bottom of my boots are pretty worn and no longer have tread but I really put a ton of miles on my boots and I'm honestly surprised they last as long as they do. I've also abused these boots very hard. Some notable accomplishments I've done: * When I was a dishwasher I put my boots through the conveyor dishwasher to "clean" them as a joke. * Cleaned my boots weekly in the dish room using the retractable sprayer cleaning the gunk off the sides and bottom of the boots. * Worked front end of the restaurant and challenged oil resistance and slip resistance of the gore-tex * Actually got automotive oil on them while working on my car * Carelessly walked through puddles of water when it flooded I've honestly been a trailblazer to these boots and never took care of them properly but they are still very functional. The grip at the bottom is mostly gone and so I was looking into getting a new set and just couldn't help but write a review. These were my first Ariat boot and they have survived 3 restaurants and joined me in my adventures through college. Now that I've graduated college I want to get a new set for a comfy office job and treat them better. I love how durable these boots are.

Get a full size smaller or at least half a size smaller than you normally wear. I originally bought these in a US10 (what I wear in every other shoe) and they were just too big. Very long and loose. Returned and got a 9.5, they were still long and loose. The 9.5 in these boots is still bigger than a 10 in both other steele toe boots and sneakers. Also the factory foam inserts suck. Replace them ASAP with different ones. Otherwise very good looking and seemingly high quality work boots.

I do like the boots but I usually wear hiking boots. Timberland type stuff. Very comfortable right out of the box. These were horrendous when I first put them on. VERY tight around the top of my feet even though the toe fit was fine. I almost returned them but I searched for advice on breaking in boots and it seems there are two camps. One says western boots should be comfortable from the first wearing and the other has elaborate ways to "break them in". I took a chance and wore them in the house for short periods for several days. They loosened up considerably and are now pretty comfortable. I bought some leather conditioner but I haven't used it yet. I think this will soften them even more. I don't have enough experience with western boots to give a blanket opinion. Maybe there is a pair somewhere that I would fall in love with on first wearing. It was a wrestling match to get these on and off the first time. Now, no problem. One slight problem is that so far I can't wear them with my orthotics. Maybe down the road. Pros and cons, but I am keeping them. Very nice leather and well made. I just think that hiking boots are generally more comfortable and suitable for casual everyday wear.

UPDATE 03/26/2024 It will be 10 years that I have been wearing these boots and I STILL love them! Yes they are beginning to show signs of wear in the “seam” around where the upper attaches to the sole area but the leather upper is still Excellent. If only everything was made like this boot! As I wrote down below in my update of January 2023, the back up pair that my wife so wisely purchased for me in 2017 has still not been put into service. This 10 year old pair still goes on my feet six out of seven days of the week, and other than an occasional polishing and an application of waterproofing every other year that has been the sum total of upkeep. I guess I should mention that I did call Ariat a while back and inquired about replacement in Certs as they are so very comfortable. Not only did the very kind, knowledgeable, and courteous area representative. Send me a new pair of inserts gratis, she also had very good things to say about working for this company. All things considered, this has been one of my best purchases ever! If area is still following the same principles in building these boots, you will enjoy them as well. Will be back in a couple years for yet another update! Love these boots so much that My Wife bought this pair as a back-up for when My 1st pair (purchased here in August of 2014!!) wears out!! I spend over 95% of the time that I am not indoors in these boots and love them! About the only time I am not wearing these boots is when it is so ICY that I put on a pair of Danner Acadia boots ( Given to Me as a Gift from My Mother circa 1998) that I have put sheet metal screws into the Vibram lugs for traction. So far the 1st pair is still hanging in here as We enter Our 9th Winter ( August 2014 > January 2023) and finally some cracking is developing where the upper meets the top of the Goodyear welt area. But for a pair of boots that cost $103.96 in 2014 I don't think I have had better service! So far the 2nd pair has ( Purchased here on Amazon with a price increase of only ONE dollar!!) have not even been out of the box!!! Love 'em!!!! PS: Take a gander at an Excellent YouTube footwear reviewer by the name of Rose Anvil for His opinion of Ariat Boots in general!
