Let me start off saying I’m not a professional welder, I don’t weld every day all day- so I’m sure if your in that line of work it makes sense investing in a professional grade helmet. I have welded in my line of work regularly for the past 20 years but it’s not 100% of what I do- I feel like calling myself a welder is tantamount to calling myself a chef or cook because I make myself a sandwich for lunch everyday lol- so with that out of the way- I love this helmet. For years I’ve been using an auto tint helmet that was good for its day in 2008 but I was having such a hard time seeing what I was doing replacing a floor in classic car project I thought I lost whatever skill I had. I picked this helmet because it had a light attached to it which I was wanting and rigged up on my old one. I saw all the features it described and didn’t think much kinda lol ya right . It works so well not just the light part but it has a way larger viewing window and has 3 modes , grinding, cutting (like with a torch or plasma cutter ) and welding. When it’s off you can see clear as day making this like a full face shield - which I absolutely love especially when using death wheels and by selecting the mode it auto adjusts the tint and speed to your work. The webbing for your head is super comfortable- it’s different from my old one which was very common across all helmets of the time- this one does not slip or give me the forehead band or a headache- I could wear it all day. Another thing I love which may not sound like a big deal is when you lift it, of course it’s adjustable on the tension but it has a spot where u click it up and it locks into place- that is so handy. And funny enough I have a habit of lifting it to see things or check work but because it has a clear high viz lens I don’t have to lift it anymore- but I’m a smoker so the lock up feature is so nice and I don’t have it falling down on me during a smoke break. So for a diy type deal it’s amazing, worth every penny highly recommend. As I mentioned before I’m not a professional so I can’t comment in that world but in my world I wish I bought this so much sooner - I like welding again

I have used this helmet now for a few months and for the price it is a pretty good helmet I definitely like this helmet a lot more than my old auto darkening helmet... You can actually see with this helmet. I've used it to weld probably 300 spot welds (plug welds technically along with a ton of 16 gauge stitch welds and some 20 gauge sheet metal work and I have used this helmet to do some mild repairs on some old vanadium steel Ford model A stuff... This helmet performs as designed it's nice being able to see what I'm doing and the auto darkening feature actually appears to work correctly. I have never used a little clip-on light that comes with it and I haven't replaced any of the lenses yet but I am very happy with this welding helmet for the price. I would not call myself a professional welder but I definitely use my welder more than the average hobbyist car Guy. I have used this helmet to do a step notch, major body work after a drunk driver hit one of my trucks, I've used it on my hot rod project and I even used it on a steel trellis for a tree I am training to grow so I could actually harvest the fruit off of it. I highly recommend this helmet for a home use welder if you are going to do the stuff commercially I would say step up and buy a name brand helmet but I am not disappointed non the less.

This helmet has a lot of adjustments on the head strap with a sort of butterfly shaped pivoting piece in the back that helps it cradle the back of your head, ensuring a good fit. The head strap also adjusts at 3 different points, which helps it accommodate many different head shapes. This is a far superior design to Harbor Freight's Titanium 7 sq. in. Auto-Darkening Welding Helmet sku# 58058(I will refer to this as the HF 58058 for future reference) a similar priced helmet that I know many of you who are viewing this listing are also considering, Do yourself a favor get this one instead. The view on the ArcCaptain is larger, it comes with a couple extra screens as replacements. The plastic on this one is much sturdier and robust than the HF 58058 and the controls are on the side of the helmet and easy to operate with your gloves on once you memorize the controls layout, Unlike the HF 58058 which has tiny buttons on the inside of the mask. Which means making adjustments on the fly is pretty much a no go. The ArcCaptain uses knobs that allow more granular control of the auto darkening over the HF 58058 allowing the user to dial in the settings to be perfect for your set up, vision, and ambient lighting. The Light is comes with is useful but also a bit gimmicky, I was expecting some sort of clip on the helmet for the light to knotch into but it is just a cheapo headlamp with double sided tape on it, it even still has the loops for attaching a headband to it, it would have been a nice touch if ArcCaptain had just included that headband, on the plus side the light is rechargeable so you won't have to deal with batteries, the downside though is it uses microUSB and not USB-C and the included cable is only like 4 inches long, so trying to charge the light after it has been attached to the helmet with the included cable is a bit of a hassle, I suggest getting a longer cable or forego the included light completely. The Arc Captain also has a more granular tightening mechanism for the head strap and mask actuation over the HF 58058. The Downsides the headstrap does feel a bit flimsy and liable to break if you aren't careful. The battery is held in with a small tray that has to be pried out from the backside of the control panel on the inside of the mask, it's kind of a pain to get out and is very thin plastic, it feels like it is highly likely to break if you do not exercise the utmost caution while handling the battery. Also whenever the tightening knob on the back of the headstrap is released it feels like it is stripping out the plastic that holds it in place after tightening, this is just speculation but it is likely after a lot of use especially by those who like their helmet very tight on their noggin that this piece will eventually wear and no longer hold the desired tightness. Overall though this is a great helmet for the price point with a lot of features, intuitive controls, and an excellent choice for a beginner.

This welding face is a great value! The view is good and darkens so fast you don’t notice the spark. I like the LED light feature. If never occurred to me to put a light there. Derp! Good for getting started in a darker environment.

Decent enough helmet. It works when it works but the battery life is terrible. Using for about 3 months as a hobbyist, only an hour or so a couple nights a week and the “battery low” warning is screaming at me and my eyes are spotty because it won’t really get dark. Replacing the battery out to be the obvious fix and an easy one at that EXCEPT there is no place to replace the battery. I’ve looked everywhere. I’ve taken the lens out of the hood completely (after having to remove all of the co trips to do so). Good luck trying to get someone in China to answer a call or be of any assistance with replacing a simple battery. I was told, “go look on you-tube”. While the helmet is nice to begin with it’s a complete throw away item. Just buy a Miller.

I can weld again, very clear viewing field and for the price it is a great deal. Update, the helmet and shield work great especially for the price. I have welded up several projects with only one issue the light kept falling off which I corrected as shown in the pics with zip ties and rtv. I do like having the light which also had the object, that is under the tab, you push to turn it on fall out which I replaced with a bb and some tacky reassembly lube to kept it in place.
