Ok, so the first thing when I thought when I opened the box was “Sweet Baby Jesus, that’s a lot of screws”. Everything is clearly labeled and assembly is like IKEA furniture. If you have a drill you can go much faster but I did everything by hand (they also have tools included, so you don’t need to have your own screwdriver). When putting in the screws, I saw a lot of chipping near the hole, but nothing visible after you put it all together. The top part is nice as you can choose which way to open it up - it’s a bit hard add the screws to place the top section, so I rested it on top of the couch so I didn’t have to try to balance it on one hand while screwing the pieces with the other - this part still took me the longest as I had to put some weight not my hands to get the screws to go in. It’s a nice table for a “coffee table”, so don’t expect it to be big like an entertainment center - check measurements! All in all, I think it’s really nice and the LED lights give a nice touch!

There's a lot to like with this lift top coffee table. There is so much storage, something our house sorely lacks and most of it is hidden. The lift top and drawer are both quiet when opening or closing. And I like that it is simple in its design, meaning it will fit in should we decide to change up our living room décor. The overall build is very solid and heavy, very heavy. The top does have a little wobble when fully extended, but it's not anything to worry about. The assembly, however...that was way more time consuming than I had anticipated. It wasn't difficult, just a lot of pieces to put together. For the money, this is an excellent coffee table that is a great balance of form and function.

Everything was going fine when assembling until the part where we were to attach the top piece. The holes didn't match up to the legs that lifted the top piece. We had to drill new holes. Annoying.

I love the ability to pop the coffee table up and use it as a substitute desk. I say substitute because it doesn’t fill the desired ability of a desk. The table is still nice to have but I’m not trying to use it full time for work from home. One of the things I use it most for is to eat while watching TV. The gas struts allow for an easy opening and shutting. And when shaking the table, it feels very solid. There is a good storage capacity in the table. I like that the table isn’t obviously a top-opening table. I have been keeping important documents in it and extra paper cash in it as a way to hide it and keep everything together. I use the extra drawer for keeping gaming peripherals. And I use the open shelf as storage for old DVDs. I enjoy the LED lighting. I like to have them on and all my other lights off when watching a movie. I usually don’t have them on for the most part due to not needing them and it takes a bit to turn on compared to just sitting down and turning on the TV. For the price, there are a lot of different options out there but if you get it on sale this is a good value for the table.

I was attracted to this because of a tragedy twenty years ago. My children had a toy chest with a hinged lid. My one-year-old son rested his fingers on the edge, while his three-year-old sister caringly closed the lid for him. I could see it happen, but could not get there in time to prevent it; my son’s finger was crushed and we had to go to the hospital. This kind of top should prevent such injuries. The manual is exceptionally good, explaining some things I am well familiar with, but had to find out for myself over the years. The parts are clearly labelled, and the booklet rightly advises to use your own screwdrivers and a power screwdriver, though the latter was only useful for putting in the smaller screws. Everything goes smoothly until step 20 (page 25) when fitting the push-to-open drawer. I found the mechanism had been set too far back to work at all (you cannot adjust this, the screw holes are pre-drilled). This was remedied by sticking a piece of cardboard on the back of the drawer front so the mechanism could be reached. (See the photo). Once this was done, I found the mechanism required a firm press to close it and open it, but worked fine. Now we come to pages 34 and 35 … the fitting of the top. The rest of the unit took me an hour and three quarters. The top took me half an hour on its own. The reason is it is almost impossible to hold it up at the same time as reaching into the limited space beneath to put screws into the holes. The first two on either side are a torment. Having done this once, I know how I would do it with hindsight. I would turn the unit onto one of its ends, so the top would be vertical, and would only need to be balanced by a hand from outside the unit, rather than pulling it up from inside. Then I would have room to put my other hand in with a screw and screwdriver, and the freedom of movement to get the screw into position. The manual does not hint at this … and unless I ever do the same thing again, I cannot prove it will work … but this appears to be the most hopeful way of approaching a job which is genuinely tricky, simply because it is very hard to get a screw in place before the holes in the metalwork and woodwork slip out of alignment out of your line of sight. Having done that, the finished unit is delightful. I would recommend the manufacturers to adjust either the fittings or their position so that the metalwork rests on the interior top during construction, which would eliminate the problems I endured. But unless they do, this is not a project for the first-time furniture assembler. And the drawer really should not have needed me to fettle it to make it work. Some people will really enjoy the lighting kit. I used to like things like that when I was in my twenties, but now I am 63 I won’t be fitting it. The good thing is you have the choice. All in all, a nice unit, but much nicer if someone else builds it for you.
