I researched a lot of SUV awnings. Chose the ARB because it is a very thick, waterproof fabric and its list of accessories is deep (I also bought the awing room). But since it's made in China I was worried about quality. The fabric is great, the aluminum backing plate is great, the zippers are high quality but there is where it ends. The aluminum twist lock poles are very flimsy. I can't imagine they will last with continual use. And the zipper pulls are garbage. I mean total absolute junk! The first broke the second I pulled on it. The round hook that attaches the zipper pull to the zipper is not even 1/32" think. You can break it by pushing on it with your thumb. This is where ARB truly sucks. They are willing to save 1/2 a penny knowing their customers could potentially (me) not be able to open their awnings because the pulls break off. It's a simple fix. Order high quality pulls off Amazon which I did but I spent $10 to fix a problem ARB could fix for 1 penny. Shame on them! Next is the mounting bolt size to their backing plate. As I mentioned, the aluminum backing plate is a solid piece of kit but rather than designing a track that accepts sturdy 8mm mounting bolts they designed one that only accepts 6mm bolts! Just insane. This is a big piece of gear that will travel down an interstate at perhaps 80mph and it's hanging out there. For the 6.5 ft version they provide 6 6mm bolts for three mounting points, but many of us will be mounting this to roof rack cross bars (me - Thule EVO bars) so I can only use 4 of their 6mm bolts to mount to their plate. On my EVO bars themselves I am using 4 10mm bolts to mount the awning bracket to my actual bars but am stuck with 4 of those little ARB 6mm bolts to mount to to their backing plate. I say my prayers each time I drive that their little bolts will hold this awning. And there is no way to upgrade these bolts as the tracks in the backing plate will only accept their crappy 6mm bolts with VERY SMALL square heads. Again, ARB has cut corners to save pennies. They could have milled wider tracks to accepts 8mm with bigger heads. Again, shame on ARB. The good news, parts are readily available. When your poles break and they will from wind, use, whatever, you can get new ones fairly cheap -- You can buy new pulls immediately and then you'll have a great zipper. You can fix everything but the 6mm mounting bolts. So I would advise trying to make a 3 mount connection if you can (unfortunately I couldn't). I will say ARB warranty is great but a bit daft. I immediately emailed about my broken pulls and rather than sending me some sturdy ones in the mail they told to send back my whole awning for a replacement. Admirable, but kind of crazy. It would cost them at least $125 in round trip shipping to replace whereas they could have just sent me some sturdier pulls in the mail for a few cents. Lastly, take the so called "User Reviews" of ARB on You Tube with a grain of salt. Many of these You Tubers get the products for free without disclosing so these aren't fair reviews. Just know ARB is not the little family company it used to be. They are a huge Global Corp worried only about their bottom line to satisfy share holders. Not a bad thing but it leads to cost saving measures that will bone you - the consumer. Would I buy this again? Absolutely, I just mentally add $50 to the price for a new pole here and there, the pulls and better guy lines. I paid $320 for the awning so with the extra $50 in parts coming, I'll be in it $370, can't complain about that, much cheaper than a Thule awning. It's a nice addition to my SUV. ... show more

So far seems like a very well-made item. Just know there's no mounting hardware with this product. And really no instructions to speak of. Be prepared to figure out how to attach to your particular rack, and possibly do some fabricating & drilling. ARB offers a few overpriced kits. Possible weak point are the small mounting bolts that slide into the soft aluminum track. ... show more

I used Rhino Rack universal awning brackets and Yakima Universal Mighty Mounts for a no-drill, sturdy installation on my 4th gen 4Runner factory racks. Holes matched up perfectly without modification. Four inexpensive M6 x 20mm hex bolts, locking washers and nuts from Home Depot and voila - it’s done. 4 stars because they really should include the L- brackets as standard. Love the awning, love the sturdiness and appearance....don't love the fact that the awning came with no mounting brackets or hardware. Nothing more irritating than ordering an expensive accessory only to have to go and buy more hardware to mount it.

Set it up by myself in about 25-30 minutes since I already had a bracket system set up. Having a ratcheting wrench set would save you a bit of work and aggravation. Definitely can’t wait to get the wind breaks in the mail to increase the shade a bit but it’s a great setup. Doesn’t interfere with the rear doors on my truck even with annex installed. ... show more
