Changed from gravel to sand in 2 fish tanks - no regrets. This sand brightens the look and lends a bit of ocean floor feel to it. The fish in my tanks seem to like the texture. Used 2 + 1/2 10 lbs bags for 20 Gallon tank and close to 1/2 bag for 5 Gallon tank. The hardest part was to completely empty and clean the tanks. Rest was easy - just added the sand and started to replant and added water/fish back. Easy to use/add and then shape the rise/fall with hand. Couldn't believe how clear the water stayed while adding water back - I did that slowly. Once sand was really wet it stayed largely in place and some of the added water made soft natural looking patterns. The sand makes it also easier to see the fish. Definitely would/will buy again. I think this sand is worth the expense. Not able to comment on maintenance since this is only a few days in. ... show more

this sand is amazing and i have nothing bad to say about it. when i added water in the tank the water was perfectly clear. im not sure if itd still be clear if i didnt use a method though. here’s the method so you dont get cloudy water just in case: put a plastic bag where youre gonna pour water and gently pour the water onto the plastic bag until the tank is half full. i did it until the tank was full but i think it would work untill half full too. i think the value is fair. its not cheap but not overpriced and i wasnt sure about if i got enough sand but one bag was good for filling half of my 20 gallon tank. my bag did have a hole in it at the bottom so id say to watch out for that but it didnt cause a big mess and i didnt really lose a noticeable amount of sand. anyway i recommend this sand a lot its so nice and my snails seem happy with it too ... show more

Pros: Beautiful, Natural Look: The white sand creates a stunning, clean look that makes my fish pop, and it also enhances the colors of my fake plants. Love this sand! I have been using this sand for almost all of my tanks. The sand is very white at first but overtime fades to that natural tan color. Is very easy to clean! I love this substrate. I bought it because I couldn't make it to our pet store, and was pleasantly surprised at how it looks and reflects my fish light. My tank looks very natural, my corycats love sifting, and this sand makes my Beta the real star of the tank. It seems very durable, and even my betas real moss huts and stones seem to be thriving. This is really nice sand, it looks great in my tank and my bottom feeders seem to really like it. I like that it's fine but not dusty. It's light enough you can just dust it with the inertia of the water when it's spread out on top of a plant or some other decor but also heavy enough that my fish aren't kicking it up constantly. It's easy enough to put live plants into this substrate and it has enough weight to keep them from floating away. That said I did have trouble with some tiger lotus bulbs (but who doesn't) and was able to get enough sand on top without covering it too much and wedging it under a little driftwood to keep it down. I liked it a lot and purchased another bag to use in a 21 gallon tank; however, the second bag I received had a hole in it. It looked to be more like a tear, I had to immediately move the bag into a bucket because it was leaking sand all over the box and my floor but overall it's a really decent nice sand substrate, just be careful when opening. ... show more

You have to wash this sand. Put it in a bucket, take it outside and hose it until all the dust and junk comes out of it. Don't neglect this step! The color of the sand isn't white at all and that threw me off at first, but I decided to go ahead and use it. I'm glad I did because it's grown on me since I put it in the tank. I bought two bags for a 15 gallon and it's the depth I wanted. Overall I'm happy with this purchase, will buy again and can recommend it. ... show more
