Contains bio activated live nitrifying bacteria to either use as a primary substrate or mix with substrate for a healthy aquarium. Contains a patented blend of live nitrosomas and nitrobacter bacteria which break down and convert harmful ammonia, into nitrates.

I just planted my tank so I’m not sure how well it’s going to turn out yet, but so far the sand worked perfectly. It’s got water in the bag (I’m assuming for the bacteria) so be weary of that as it can be messy. The sand is very pretty, though. Why did you pick this product vs others?: Giving 4 stars because I really love this product, got it for my 6 gallon tank. It’s only a 5 pound bag so it’s kind of a small amount if u have anything bigger than a 6 gallon. But so far my water tests have come up great because of this also.

Whoever thought of this is a genius! Easy to get out of the bag and into the tank, high quality, super soft and perfect grain size, and the color is super nice and natural looking! But the fact that it has the beneficial bacteria defiantly makes it 100% worth the money! It's perfect for getting the nitrogen cycle started in a new tank and I would recommend it to anyone, beginner or experienced! I actually already ordered more. (Also, just spend the extra 2 bucks for 10pounds of it, 5pounds isn't a lot and considering you can get twice the amount for only 2 dollars extra you might as well do it!) ... show more

Great sand that is very soft and small. It’s very white and sometimes gets filtered into my filter. Don’t rinse it since there is beneficial bacteria in the water that will help you cycle

Extremely convenient to use, just take it out of the bag and add it straight to the tank. The quality is excellent: very soft texture, ideal grain size, and a beautiful, natural-looking color. By far the best substrate I've used. It comes pre-moistened, so you can pour it right in, and any cloudiness clears up really quick. I combined the white sand with fine gravel for a realistic look in my 5-gallon tank. Works perfectly! ... show more

The first picture was after I put the sand in my new tank after 2 hours. The second picture was when I woke up the morning after. Crystal clear! Beautiful white sand with no cloudiness. Love it I got 4, 5 pound bags for my 20 gallon tank. Gave me a nice 1 inch to 1.5 of sand.
