The filter was quick to install and I think it looks good. I bought the finish that matches my shower head, and it blends in fairly seamlessly (even though it's a large, bulbous thing sitting behind the shower head). It provided the added benefit of moving my shower head and attached hose slightly further away from the wall so I could install a hanging basket behind it. This could also be a con for those who are concerned about space in their shower or about the shower head becoming too low for them. Water pressure was reduced fairly significantly. I don't mind it, personally, but it's something to consider. But to the most important question: does it work? Honestly, I don't really know. I have hard water at my house, but the difference with the filter wasn't as dramatic for me as it was for some other reviewers. I certainly don't come out of the shower feeling like I just bathed in sand, but it also hasn't exactly become a euphoric experience. I suppose the fact that I have no complaints (dry hair, spots all over the shower) indicates that it could be working. I would just caution people not to expect a miracle. ... show more

I moved from a large city to small city where the water is well water rather than lake water being used. There are so many chemicals added to the water that when I would take a shower, I never felt like I got all the soap off of my skin. Plus my scalp has become irritated and my hair is frizzy after washing. I have straight thin hair, so this has been an issue to use more products to battle the frizzies. This filter does exactly what it says it will do. I have used the filter twice now and our water feels so much cleaner and my hair looks less frizzy. I am very impressed with this filter and wish they made one for kitchen sinks to. Also installation was easy and the filter has not leaked at all. Thank you for the plumbers tape and extra straining washers. I didnt need the adapter, but that was a nice touch to see one in the box. The only thing I didnt expect was that when you first turn it on, the water ran grey for about 30 seconds then ran clear. ... show more

    • Wanted to love it, but water pressure tanked after one week

I didn’t want to write a four-star review, but wasn’t able to contact Customer Support for this item -- which would be my first choice. It worked really well for the first week. Then week two, the water pressure decreased by about 70 - 80%. The shower is unusable in this state. The water pressure isn’t decreasing anywhere else in the house, just through the filter. I’m going to try reinstalling it. But I wanted to know: why would this be happening? Is there anything I can do to fix it? Thanks. ... show more

From the first use, I can definitely feel the difference in the water quality. I let the water run a little before actually using it. It was very easy to install, and we have not experienced any leaking from the connection. Usually, my skin (especially) my face would be dry and tight after showering, but from the first time I used it, my face did not have that dry feeling. Four thumbs up on this one. Showers have become much nicer. Extra hard chlorinated water (with very little particulate content) that bothered one person using the shower this went onto is no longer a problem after passing through this filter. In use for a few weeks so far. No data on how long the filter will last before needing replacing. As others have pointed out, the body is metal coated plastic. The metal is pretty much just for appearance. The plastic is plenty strong enough for finger tightening of the filter onto the pipe out of the wall and the shower head onto the filter. (I recommend attaching the shower head first.) To avoid over tightening (and for the completely over zealous) possibly breaking something one only needs to twist using fingers holding the narrow part of the filter casing. There is no need to tighten as hard as one can while grasping the wide body of the filter casing if you have any appreciable hand strength (ex. can squeeze a lemon.) If one uses the included teflon tape on the pipe threads and the rubber washer on the shower head side there shouldn't be any leaks. Of course there could possibly be defects in the injection molded plastic body of the filter case like with any other plastic part, but this should be a vanishingly small percentage of modern production once set up. The unit I received seemed well produced (yes, with a bit of exposed plastic on the inside of the case that will never matter.) I expect this to last as long as filter cartridges are available. Oh, and do run plenty of water through the active carbon filter cartridge to flush out the tiny bits of loose charcoal that will turn the water slightly grayish. If you don't do it in a sink before installing then do it in the shower and just wait for the water to appear clear on a white background. ... show more

The water in my city is HORRIBLE. I already have a whole house water filter, plus a reverse osmosis system for drinking water. My hair was really suffering from the water as I color it. Adding the shower head filter was a revelation! I noticed significant improvement in shampooing, a lot less tangles and easier to rinse and use conditioner on THE FIRST TRY. Also, I was looking for a "designer" color to match the rest of my bathroom hardware, and the match is pretty right on. So happy with my purchase! So I just changed the filter (which was very simple) and the photos are of the old filter. Gross! I had noticed my water pressure had gone down a little so I figured I should change it. The minute I did the water pressure was back (I do not have a flow restricted shower head). I bought this not sure if it was a gimmick or the real deal but between the stronger water pressure and now seeing the old filter, I’m a believer. Installation was easy, just be sure to use the plumber tape, and screw it all on tight. Also, clean your shower head real good to get the build up out. Once installed it may run a dark color for a minute. It will clear. I can’t believe I had showered for years with all that gunk going all over me 😜. Just buy it. ... show more
