Features

  • [2-in-1 Sensor] The Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2s built-in infrared and light sensor monitors the presence of people in an area, and monitors the lighting values, allowing you to easily achieve automation for various tasks in your home, such as flexible automations for curtains and lighting. Compared to the Aqara motion sensor P1, the Motion and Light P2 includes a separate light sensor that can be used independently for automations, apart from motion detection, and is compatible with Matter. (*NOTE: Alexa DOESNT SUPPORT light sensor functionality)
  • [Wide Viewing Angle & Detection Range] The P2 sensor can detect movement across a wider area range of up to 7 meters/23 feet, at an angle of up to 170 horizontally, and 45 vertically. The data is from laboratory testing, conducted in a 25 C / 77 F environment. It also comes with a versatile 360 stand, that allows you to easily adjust the viewing angle, and it can only trigger the sensor when its needed. The detection angle and the sensitivity may vary depending on the ambient temperature and the distance. The device comes with medium sensitivity by default, but you can set the various sensitivity levels on the Aqara Home APP later according to seasonal changes or needs.
  • [Energy Saving & Alert System] You can integrate the Motion and Light Sensor P2 with your smart home ecosystem to enable advanced automations and energy efficiency. Imagine how fun it can be! Youll be able to schedule different automations based on the brightness in the room to achieve circadian lighting and ambient control. Moreover, the automations are executed without the cloud, which can protect the users privacy and will keep working even if there is no internet connection. At the same time, it also supports voice alerts and status notifications through voice assistants.
  • [Easy to Install & Long Battery Life] Thanks to its compact wireless design and adjustable stand, the Sensor P2 can easily be installed on a wall, ceiling or a particular zone, and set up with ease. The Motion Detector and Light Sensor P2 has a powerful 2*CR2450 Lithium battery and provides up to 2 years of power for round-the-clock security, one of the longest battery life among Matter over Thread sensors. (NOTE:The battery life depends on the particular Matter ecosystem and the number of Matter ecosystems the device is connected to)

  • Nice Matter/Thread Motion Sensor
Overall, this is a neat little motion sensor that runs by Matter over Thread. It is exposed to various platforms as “occupancy” rather than motion not due to failings on the sensors part, but rather as the current limitations of the developing Matter Standard. Also, exposed to various platforms is the light/illuminance sensor. All in all, it functions exactly as you would expect for a motion sensor to work. If there is motion, it gets triggered. Light levels only update as motion is triggered, not a constant update; I would imagine otherwise battery brain would be obscene. (Important to note is: You do need to have a functional thread network set up for this device to work, as that’s the communication protocol of the device) Visually, it’s a nice looking sensor. Small, solid feeling plastic casing, feels and looks nice To pair, you can either scan the QR code provided on the booklet that’s enclosed, but if you lose that or your QR camera is not working, the booklet provides the numbers to input. ***As well as this the Matter Code is printed on the top of the sensor it is associated with.*** Nicely discrete but accessible, should the page of the booklet be misplaced. The batteries are 2 (two) CR2450 coin batteries. As this is a brand new sensor, battery life is still to be determined, but even so it’s not something I’m too worried about. Even the “lower” estimate of two years depending on usage is nothing to sneeze at. I’d be more concerned if it was only estimated to last a few months. The only thing I’m not too pleased with is the inability to adjust distance/level parameters of the sensor without the, at time of writing, unreleased Aqara M3 Hub ... show more

  • Terrible Design DO NOT BUY - No Matter QR code ON DEVICE
I have over two dozen Thread/Matter devices, mostly from Eve. 100% of them have the Matter QR code on the device. Every. Single. One. I got the Aqara motion sensor in high hopes of something small and very flexible mount. However, I could not even join the device to my Thread/Matter network! The QR code on the DEVICE itself is NOT a Matter QR code. It's some proprietary code. The Matter QR code is ONLY printed on the manual insert. Well that's COMPLETELY useless over time. Why? What if I have a dozen of these around the house? You have NO WAY to determine which one is which. Literally every other Matter device I have has the full QR code ON THE DEVICE. Whoever thought this design was OK should be fired. I'm immediately sending this junk back. I would ONLY reconsider purchasing when they PUT THE DARN MATTER QR CODE ON THE DEVICE. I didn't even bother to scan the manual's QR code to test the device as the lack of the QR code ON THE DEVICE is simply unforgivable. ... show more

  • HomeKit user review
I currently have most of my house setup on HomeKit. I have 4 other sensors I use to keep the lights turned off when no one is in the specific room, but they are a mixture of the Eve and Onvis sensors. This Aqara sensor wins as far as size and versatility. However, the issue I have, and why I am returning it, is that in order to change the duration in which the sensor checks for motion/occupancy, you have to add it to the Aqara app. Its default duration is 1 minute. Unfortunately you cannot add it to the Aqara app without an Aqara hub. Adding directly to HomeKit works great so I don’t need an Aqara hub but 1 minute duration is not long enough ( I typically set to 10 minutes), so the lights are constantly turning off when they shouldn’t be. I have only used this for 1 week, but another thing I have noticed 2 or 3 times is the dreaded “device unreachable” notification in HomeKit. Fortunately it has self healed each time, but my other 4 sensors have been in place for at least a year and I can’t think of a single time they have become unreachable. Side note for that - if you are having issues with your HomeKit devices becoming unreachable I would recommend upgrading yours router. I had a really nice nighthawk router, but had multiple devices going unreachable and needing reset multiple times a week which was very frustrating. A few months ago I upgraded to the Eero 6+ mesh routers (2 pack - 1 upstairs and - downstairs in opposite ends of the house) as they advertise being built for smart homes, and I haven’t had a single “device unreachable” error since. ... show more

  • So far so good, better than other brands
I got this to replace another brand that lasted just over a year. So far this was easy to install, and easy to link to my phone. The unit is a little bit bigger than I expected, and the simple interface has its plusses and minuses, sometimes I'd like to see more information on the display, but at the same time, I barely ever look at it except to see the current temperature. If this thing last for more than a year, I'll be happy. ... show more

  • Just Works!
I have two of these, they work great. I use them in HomeKit and Homey; setting them up was super easy. No QR code on device, however, the Matter code is on the top of the sensor in case you lose the booklet that comes with the device, so no worries....

  • Functional until it wasn’t
At first it was functional as expected. Then it ceased working showing as unresponsive for HomeKit. Removed and reset after which nothing but failure to connect. Manufacture’s app wouldn’t allow setup claiming a matter hub required which isn’t what documentation indicates. Clearly a poorly designed device that is not able to perform as expected. ... show more
