  • Outstanding! It does what it is supposed to do and it does it very well.
In Middle Tennessee, our summers have a constant “fog” of high humidity. We used to have a stand-alone dehumidifier in our living space. But, without a drain, it was a constant pain to empty the reservoir at least twice per day. And the noise of the stand-alone de-humidifier polluted our peace. A whole-house dehumidifier solved our problems. I installed our Aprilaire 1830 de-humidifier next to my air handling unit. I followed the instructions in the Installation Manual and after a couple of phone calls to Aprilaire for clarification on a couple of issues, it's done. I suspended the dehumidifier with chains, hooks, eyebolts, and springs bought at my local box store. I also installed vibration pads under the feet. The place in the attic where this is located is directly over a bedroom. But, while in the bedroom, while it is running, there is no sound heard whatsoever. This DH is controlled by the Aprilaire 8920W thermostat located in the living area and when the thermostat calls for dehumidification, both the DH and the air handling unit fan turn on at the same time. Our RH setpoint is 50% and this unit does a particularly good job of maintaining the RH% to that setpoint. The DH is well made, and I am incredibly pleased with it thus far. UPDATE MAY 23, 2021 The longer we have our Aprilaire 1830 De-humidifier, the more I am convinced that investing in it was one of the best purchases I have ever made. It just works, and it works well. Yesterday was a typical hot and humid day. It was 88 degrees outside and the outside RH% was 87%. But, inside of our home, the RH% was 50% all day. This is typical of how our RH% is controlled every day in warm weather. And after using this for about a year, we have discovered that air that is less humid does not need to be as cold as the air that has high humidity to feel comfortable. Since our indoor RH% never exceeds 50% we have been able to raise the set-point of our thermostat cooling temperature UP 2 degrees. This directly translates to lower electric bills. It cost much less to run an 1830 de-humidifier and keep the RH% at 50% than it does to cool air that has high RH% and is 2 degrees cooler. ... show more

  • Just buy it! Love Love Love this Unit!
Size: 5,200 sq. ft. Style: 95 Pint Pattern Name: Leveling Feet
I don’t typically write reviews, but I am so impressed by this product that I had share. My house is about 8400 SQ Feet. The basement where the problem is is about 4000 SQ feet. I have always had 3 or 4 potable dehumidifiers during summer in the basement. The portable dehumidifiers work fine but just for about a year or so. I was tired of replacing these on a regular basis so I looked at Aprilaire 1850. I installed is by using a T and creating a rerun air on each side or my basement. I could have attached it to existing HVAC RA but I chose to just add a return air in each side of the basement. The humidity went form 65 to 45 in less than 24 hours!! It is draining so much water. Basement feels great, dry, floors are no longer feeling wet when you walk on them. I have pulled RA from the walls of the small closet where the Heat pump is located, the air the is dry I have attached it to the actual HVAC so it goes back to the entire house. This works in conjunction with AC. One or both can be in with no issues. The only thing I have observed is that it seems be running constantly but I am fine with it. I have it set at 45 when it reaches 42 , it will auto-shut off. When it reaches 48 it restarts automatically again. I . You can only hear it if you are at basement and the bedroom is attached close or HVAC closet. Overall I am very please with the whole unit. It comes with 5 years warranty burning he a humidifier from the same company that has worked fine 10 years with no issues. It will worth the investment - go with bigger until for $100 or $200 dollars more, you won’t be disappointed. ... show more

  • It really works!! DRY crawl space !
Size: 5,200 sq. ft. Style: 95 Pint Pattern Name: Leveling Feet
Arrived in 2 days after ordering, with prime. Very easy to install, i had a plumber friend help me set up a 1" pvc drain pipe line out of the dehu and just used a "T" intersect piece to tapped into the existing 1" hvac condensate drain pipe already running out of my crawl space. I also attached both the 10" duct collars to each end of the dehu, but i actually only attached 10" uninsulated duct (25' long) to the discharge end of dehu. So then i placed the unit up on cynder blocks, leveled it all out, then plugged it in. All was very easy, you really dont have to be a professional "DIY'er"....just watch a few videos on it and get a friend to help ya out. You dont even need to add the 10" duct for crawlspace application, but what that does is allow for more space from where the unit sucks in air to where it discharges the warmer dehumidified air, thus allowing for better airflow/circulation. Upon first turning on unit it gave a rh level of 96% in my crawlspace, i set the unit for 40%. Within 2hrs it came down from 96 to 76%. After a few days it lowered to 34% and has remained there. MUCH better than the 93-98% rh level that my humidistat monitor consistantly read. It is noticably drier now, allowing me to now do some needed additional work like soda blasting to clean fungus/possible mold off wood, and also to insulate rim joist/sill plate w/ closed cell foam, possible foam it green product. I would definitely recommend this product, easy to install, easy to use, and it is a beast at pulling a large amount of moisture (95pints) from the air. Installing ductwork to get that greater seperation from air in to air out will make the unit more efficient, as well as ensuring you have a good, sealed vapor barrier down covering dirt floor and last but not least placing rigid foam insulation board inside you vents and caulking/foam around to make air tight. I also bought a dual exhaust fan to place in one of my vents to exhaust air/radon gasses out of crawlspace. ... show more
