  • Exactly what I thought it would be
Style: 1.3GHz Dual Core i5 Color: Space Gray Capacity: 12-12.99 inches
You know going in that when you are buying a refurbished laptop from 2017 (the MacBook ran from 2015 to 2017: This one was from 2017) that you are not going to get a pristine, out-of-the-box unit unless you just so happened to find some new/old stock that was never opened. That would have been very cool, of course, but then it would not have been this price. This one has a tiny dent on the back that affects nothing, and a battery that has been charged 139 times. It has 82% of its original capacity (4560 or 5550 original mAh). I bought it assuming that I would need to replace the battery right away, but it turns out I won't have to for a bit. I have not tested it yet, but pretty sure this is good for 7-8 hours of unplugged usage. The other issue is that the USB-C port is pretty worn out. The cable has no 'click' when it is inserted. It is a replaceable unit, but it's a pretty large set of steps. I'll wait to do it till I replace the battery, since I'll already be in there for that, and it will be easier while the battery is out. A little. Again, I had no expectations of a perfect unit here. The keyboard is perfect (which is very important on this model, what with the butterfly switches), and the screen is also perfect. It closes in perfect hinge alignment. It is what I wanted: an inexpensive portable Mac that beats the M1 Air I have for backpackability, and WAY beats the M2 15-inch Air I have, which is physically huge. This is the perfect road machine. Even if it's 8 years old, it works, and its two wear issues are repairable. I waited to see what the new low-cost machine from Apple was going to look like before I bought this, but all the rumors are that it will not be in the 12-inch form factor that I wanted. Size-wise, it probably will just be the same size as the M1, and I have one of those. It's twice the weight of this little guy. Sidebar: I prefer the M1 Air form factor to the 'modern' physical case. It has a better shape for sliding into the backpack, and the keyboard is really good. But this 12 has a Linux companion that is 10 inches, and the two of them together are about what one 13-inch Mac would be. I also have an 8-inch Linux notebook, if I really want to go small. (The Linux machines are for use in data centers) So: Fair price, good condition, the important and hard-to-fix things work, and the parts that are marginal are also much easier to deal with. I love using this laptop. I wish it had modern specs, but I'll take the lower capacities to have the form factor I want. I also have an iPad Pro with the keyboard. It is huge relative to this machine. The 13-inch M1 air is easier to carry than that! The Pro is for running Microsoft applications like Teams and Outlook for work. ... show more

  • Excellent Condition Does Not Always Mean What You Think
Style: 1.2GHz Dual Core M3 Color: Space Gray Capacity: 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
This is the second refurbished computer I purchased with the first one being in new like condition. This computer condition was noted as excellent. When it arrived it had a vinyl covering glued to the top and bottom of the computer lids. One cannot determine the cosmetic condition if it is covered but I would assume it is not excellent. The computer would not start when I received it and I charged it for a few hours. It then greeting me with "battery service recommended". A utility program I used indicated battery was 77% full charge capacity. This also does not meet the minimum battery charge of 80% of capacity. Item was returned and a refund issued. ... show more

  • Great condition, arrived quickly!
Style: 1.2GHz Dual Core M3 Color: Space Gray Capacity: 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
THIS IS A LONG REVIEW SO ITS SEPARATED INTO 3 PARTS WITH AN UPDATE TO COME. SKIP TO WHAT IS RELEVANT TO YOU AND I HOPE THIS HELPS! THE BACKGROUND: I am a masters student and visual artist. I used apple products solely to do both my school work and art pieces. up until now I was using a 2013 Macbook Pro and it finally became so obsolete I was forced to upgrade. normally I would go straight to the apple store and spend entirely too much money for my students budget, however my younger sister recently bought a refurbished MacBook Air on amazon that works wonders so I thought I'd give it a try. THE FIRST IMPRESSION: First things first, this arrived promptly! It literally made it to me within less than 7 days of ordering it and before the estimated arrival time. The reviews for this MacBook were pretty mixed, but I noticed the the bulk of the bad reviews were: packaging complaints and cosmetic complaints. With the understanding that this is a refurbished computer, personally, I didn't mind those two things. Mine came in a standard computer shipping box, though it could've been packed more securely I have no complaints there. As far as cosmetics, there were 3 scratches/smudges that are so minuscule you can't even see them in the photos I've posted. Besides, my preference is to cover my laptop in stickers and a clear case so none of the cosmetic issues will be seen either way in my case. As far as the functionality of the laptop It turns on and runs perfectly so far. The screen is bright, the keyboard lights up and dims, it opens and shuts just fine. I was able to easily connect to the internet and attach my Apple ID, information and preferences. You can upgrade for free to the latest operating system for free (which I did) or choose to keep the one that it comes installed with. All in all, I am completely satisfied with this purchase as of 2 days in, but stay tuned for an update closer to the end of my 90 day return period. THINGS TO CONSIDER: I would just like to note that this laptop while in great condition is extremely small and delicate. If you are someone that has a high risk of this thing being dropped, hit, smushed I would really consider looking at a MacBook pro instead. I previously owned one for years before switching to this and it survived a lot of aggressive movements. I attached a photo of the 12" MacBook air next to my 11" iPad Pro to illustrate how tiny and thin this thing is. ... show more
