This refurbished actual Apple OEM keyboard works perfectly, just as advertised. However, I was surprised to find out that the "Touch ID" function -- which is the whole reason I bought this -- is really quite limited by Apple. At least on the newer operating systems, you cannot use touch ID to log in from a cold reboot, for example. You still have to manually type in your password and there is no getting around it. In fact there are a lot of situations where you'd think you should be able to use touch ID, and where it would be extremely handy and much easier than having to repeatedly manually type in your password repeatedly, where it's simply not enabled -- intentionally, by design. There were a few, and I mean a VERY few, situations where it did give me the option of using touch ID, when repeatedly asking for permissions to allow certain programs and plugins to install, which, admittedly, would have been a nightmare without that function, but far too many times, you still have to manually type in your password, and sometimes even have to reboot to enable a program to run. That type of clumsy implementation may marginally enhance security, but it makes the Touch ID feature next to worthless in my opinion. Again, not the fault of this keyboard. It works great! Just another example of terrible usability by Apple which has been coasting on its early reputation of 'usability" for about 20 years now without actually having a well-organized, user-friendly operating system. One last comment I have is that I made the mistake of buying the compact version of this keyboard without the numerical keypad thinking that I really didn't need it and wouldn't miss it (I had previously had the full-sized one, but without Touch ID). I now regret that decision every day. There is an almost imperceptible, possibly even purely psychological, but very real, difference in feel between the two sizes and I find myself still making numerous typing errors even many months later. I just can't seem to get used to how small this keyboard is and, especially when doing things that have to do with finance or banking, I do miss the numerical keypad -- a lot. But again, that's not related to any fault with this actual product. I'm giving this 5 stars because it's exactly what it's supposed to be and works exactly as designed. Unfortunately, Apple needs to go back to the drawing board on a few things having to do with its design.

Apple intended this product to be used wirelessly, but this refurb does not work wirelessly. It works fine and even feels/looks new, but cannot connect while unplugged. I can see that there are previous buyers that have had the same issue - are they just resending the same keyboard that isn't working? It's a bit more frustrating considering that they sellers have decided to jack up the price $15 for the Silver version (was $85 and is now $100) - maybe try sending out a functioning product first! I can see the Quality Control sticker on the bottom of the keyboard. Please check if it discoverable in the settings while unplugged. This is a battery issue. Never been more disappointed by an Amazon product.

The renewed Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID arrived in excellent condition—clean and free of any visible blemishes. Setup was effortless: just plug it into your Mac, and you're good to go. The Touch ID sensor functions reliably and adds a convenient layer of security. However, the battery drains noticeably faster than expected. This seems to be a common trade-off when purchasing a renewed product, so potential buyers should be aware of the possibility.

This is an authentic Apple Refurbished keyboard. The Amazon listings should be mindful of the lightning vs. USB C distinction however. This keyboard I received was definitely a lightning keyboard. The functionality is what I expect from Apple keyboard and the feel is right. When compared with other authentic Apple peripherals, the color matches them and the Apple iMac lineup exactly. Going the refurbished route is a good way to get a good value (less expensive) for the peripherals of various colors that Apple holds back as exclusive only if you purchase an iMac of the corresponding color. I own as many as 12 of these keyboards and the charging is relatively fast and they hold a charge for a long time in hibernation. This is a quality product and for this listing you should not fear the refurbished product. The keyboard I received arrived with a quality control sticker indicating inspection in an unmarked box and a generic (non color braided) lightning to USB C charging cable (like comes with an iMac purchase) - so buyers should be cognizant of that trade off. The Touch ID (compatible only with Apple silicon Macs) functions as intended and is a very nice feature.

In the description of the item, the reseller claims that the battery will exceed 80% of its original retention. However, the one I received does not charge past 70%. I am doubtful that even this is accurate however because once I unplug the keyboard, it appears to outright die. I'll flip the switch on/off, see if the caps lock light comes on, but it's completely dead and off the radar of the mac. Upon reconnecting it, the battery charge shows to be 4-7%. All this said, the keyboard is in cosmetically excellent shape, and does not appear to have been used before.
