Features

  • PREMIUM QUALITY: The MQ-500 is the premium PAR meter of choice of research scientists and serious growers who need absolutely accurate PAR measurements season after season. Budget PAR meters can start out as accurate, but readings can drift up to 50% or more after one year due to the degradation of the cheaper, low-grade optics. This unpredictable accuracy can lead to disastrous crop results and inconsistent grows.
  • FEATURES: Ruggedized, precision optics accurately measure the total of all photosynthetic photons from 400-700 nm from any light-source ensuring crops receive the recommended light intensity needed for maximum and consistent yields, grow after grow. The meter reads current instantaneous intensity, can log measurements over a 24 hour period (DLI), and collects and stores sample readings from different spots of the plant canopy for PAR mapping.
  • MEASURE PAR NOT LUX: LUX or Foot-candle meters are designed to mimic the human eye's response to light and are irrelevant for plants. Cheap LUX meters are mass-produced for use in photography and are often improperly marketed as PAR meters for plants. Authentic Apogee PAR meters have been used for nearly all modern plant lighting research and are recommended as the standard by most lighting manufacturers.
  • RUGGED DESIGN: The sensor head is made from high-grade machined aluminum and fully potted with electronic epoxy making it impervious to water and rough use. The tangle-free sensor cable allows for measurements of PAR far out over the plant canopy while still being able to read the high-contract display screen.
  • DR BRUCE BUGBEE: For 30 years, Apogee PAR meters have been designed and refined by Dr Bruce Bugbee, a world-famous crop physiologist, leading authority on plant photobiology, and leading advisor to lighting manufacturers. Authentic Apogee PAR meters have been used in virtually all modern plant lighting research and are recommended as the standard meter by most lighting manufacturers.

  • Great for my LED growing lights
Style: MQ-500 Bundle
I finally upgraded and got a couple apogee par meters and they're living up to the hype so far. I bought an mq-500 and mq-610 Epar cause I'm running spyder and iluminar "beyond-par" fixtures for my grow. First impressions are the sensors are built like a tank and I'm getting super tight readings to my spectroradiometer. My old par meter was way off. I knocked a star off just because the epar one picks up the far red in my Iluminar, while this one is only par. I might post again later but so far I'm happy with the investment. ... show more

  • Can't get battery cover on
Style: MQ-500
I think my battery cover is defective. I'm spent at least an hour trying to get it back on but seems like it doesn't fit and I'm scared i'm going to break the device. I'll update the review if I can figure how to get the unit working. Kinda frustrated so far.

  • Robust Sensor but Basic UI
Style: MQ-500
My thoughts in short on the MQ-500 are that its well built, accurate but the user interface is a bit basic. After several weeks of testing the results I've gotten from the sensor are very accurate. Despite dunking the sensor in water multiple times it hasn't affected sensor functionality or accuracy. While I'm happy with the data I've collected from the MQ-500, I'm just not crazy about the UI. It's not intuitive to use, its basic and it will require a PC for further analysis. This isn't a deal breaker, but its in my opinion the meter's biggest flaw. Outside of that its a robust and accurate PAR meter. ... show more
