Description

Measure the most important reef aquarium levels including calcium, carbonate hardness (KH), phosphate and nitrate with API REEF MASTER TEST KIT. Proper balance is key to the overall health of reef inhabitants. Corals and reef invertebrates like shrimp, crabs and encrusting algae require calcium to grow and proper levels of carbonate hardness to prevent harmful fluctuations in pH. Excess phosphate, which comes from fish waste, uneaten food and other decaying organic matter as well as tap water, can cause algae blooms and affect healthy growth of hard corals. High nitrate levels from fish waste and organic compounds can cause fish disease and algae blooms. The API REEF MASTER TEST KIT comes with four different tests that are specifically calibrated to measure these levels in reef aquariums. Just fill the test tubes, add the test drops and compare results to the color card. Then follow the recommendations on the card if action is required. With API Aquarium products, it’s easy to keep a beautiful saltwater, freshwater or reef aquarium. For over 50 years, API has been creating innovative, research-driven solutions that make it easier to care for your fish and aquarium. API Aquarium Treatment Supplies are designed to work in conjunction with each other to provide best results to control algae, promote healthy bacterial growth and help control and cure fish diseases and conditions such as ich and fin rot. They work to provide a safe, hospitable environment for fish such as tropical community fish, cichlids, goldfish and more. With API, you can spend more time admiring your fish, and less time scrubbing your tank. Make sure to use all products as directed in order to ensure the best results.

  • Excellent all in one.
Style: Freshwater
Very easy to use with a little patience. I am at the end of a new tank cycle where the nitrite to nitrate ratios start to shift. My advice: Scoop up some water in a small CLEAN measuring cup that has a spout (found in most cooking sections of big box stores) from your aquarium. Fill 1 tube until the bottom of the bubble is at the 5ml line. It helps to have an empty dropper to suck up aquarium water that's used to top off the test tube. That's 9th grade chemistry 101. Perform one test at a time. I only used one tube. Read the directions of each section all the way through then go back as you perform the test. Each bottle has the drop # right on it. Another thing I did for accuracy is squeeze each bottle slightly before inverting it over the tube. As I turned it over I let it draw a little air in so it wouldn't drip all over. Colors are best read under a 5000k light or natural sunlight. ... show more

  • A must have for anyone with an aquarium
Style: Freshwater
I'm new to the aquarium-keeping hobby and I am cycling my first tank before adding fish. It's a slow process but this kit is nice and easy to use to make sure I'm on the right path in kickstarting my nitrogen cycle. The number of drops for each test tube are labelled so you don't need to constantly look at the direction packet to remember which test needs how many drops. I wish the test kit came with a test tube stand since the tubes are small and the glass seems thin, but I 3D printed my own stand to solve this problem. I would recommend buying a test tube stand on Amazon or Etsy specially for API test tubes or risk knocking them over and potentially breaking them. Overall a great product, and cheaper than buying the API tests separately. ... show more

  • Reliable. Accurate. Better than strips.
Style: Freshwater
I had algae problems in my pond and had first bought the easy to use test strips to see if the water was out of balance in the nitrogen cycle. The strips showed acceptable levels of everything, which I knew could not be correct since the algae was increasing day by day. So I bought this kit, and it yields different results based on which I addressed the problems and brought the algae problem under control. I think the test strips are okay if you are looking for a quick and easy way to see if the water chemistry is way out of whack. But if you are fine tuning the strips do not not work well. The test kit, though involving more work and time, is the way to go. ... show more

  • It works but not so easy to use.
Style: Freshwater
I love Chemistry so I enjoy using test tubes and creating chemical reactions. However, this kit could be made better. There is not a good place to stand up the test tubes during use. Would love if the kit came with a test tube stand. Maybe a foldable one that can be removed from the container. Or at least, adding short holders for the test tubes on the lid. Also, once you're ready to read the results. It is sometimes difficult to match your color or shade to the ones on the chart. The pH is one where I seem to have difficulty with. Between 6.6, 6.8 and 7.0. From what I can tell though the kit does work. Beware using and old kit. I have one from 20 years ago, and I tried matching the results with the new kit. The old one is way off! Not sure when they expire but be mindful. ... show more

  • A must for any fishkeeper
Style: Freshwater
The first thing you'll be asked when you seek help for a problem in your tank is, what are your water parameters and this kit will tell you with accuracy and reliability. The test strips are cheaper but you definitely get what you pay for. Want to know if your tank is cycled, if you're having an ammonia spike? This is the tool you need. Buy it! ... show more

  • Can’t beat this price

I’m a relatively new aquarium owner. I have a 20 gallon fresh water tank. This has been extremely easy to use. The instructions were clear and the charts were very easy to read results. You will pay double for this exact kit at the pet stores.

  • A must have

I use this weekly and sometimes daily on my 14 tanks. I could not live without it! Test strips are not accurate. I love having peace of mind and it last a long time. Be sure to follow tge instructions exactly for each test when using.

  • Definately the price is right
Style: Freshwater
I shop a lot for the things I need, because I don't have a lot of money. When I bought my fish tank I knew I was going to have to test the water. I went from pet shop to pet shop, internet shop to internet shop looking for a resonably price test kit. In one pet shop I got to know one of the fish keepers and he told me this was the best kit for the money. When I went looking for it, I found it to be around $40 to $50 dollars. I looked on amazon and it was on sale for $33 and I knew I couldn't do any better. To buy the testing kits individually for PH (High or Low), and Ammonia would be around $30 just by themselves. But with this kit I also go Nitrates and Nirites testing, so I am very happy. ... show more
