Description

Keep your fish healthy and thriving by testing your aquarium water's pH regularly with easy-to-use API Freshwater Aquarium pH Test Kit. Testing water parameters weekly helps prevent invisible water problems that can be harmful to fish. pH is the measure of acidity of water, on a scale ranging from 0 to 14. A pH of 0 is the most acidic, while a pH of 14 is the most alkaline. Different geographies have different tap water conditions with different pH levels, while fish require a specific pH level to thrive. A pH of 7.0 is ideal when keeping a community aquarium containing a variety of tropical fish. Goldfish and livebearers prefer a pH of 7.5. Many Amazonian fish, like angelfish and neon tetras, prefer a pH of 6.5 to 6.8. Mollies and swordtails thrive at pH 7.2 to 7.5. API Freshwater Aquarium pH Test Kit contains 1 pH test bottle, instructions, capped glass test tube, and color card for easy pH level testing in freshwater aquariums. API Freshwater Aquarium pH Test Kit test a wide range of pH levels from 6.0 to 9.0. Use the color-coded chart to determine if your water is safe or if adjustments are needed. Then follow the recommendations to treat the water – it's that simple! With API Aquarium products, it’s easy to keep a beautiful saltwater, freshwater or reef aquarium. For over 50 years, API has been creating innovative, research-driven solutions that make it easier to care for your fish and aquarium. • It works for me
I have very hard well water. I usually mix about 1/2 of my water with 1/2 RO water. Sometimes the hardness in the tank gets too high. This product works to test and lower hardness without adding lots of RO water. If your water is very hard like mine you would need to add pretty high amounts before you see results unless you mix distilled or RO water to get you close to the desired range. ... show more

  • Not that impressed
I have had an established fresh water tank for years. Had an amazing PH test and repair kit that I'd purchased at a store many years ago that had powered repair chemicals instead of liquid - it came with the tube, very detailed instructions and only cost about $20. When I relocated to CO from FL I didn't bring my 55 gal tank because I knew the transition would likely kill the fish so I sold the entire set up. I missed having fish so much I decided to start with a small 20 gal. Since I had no idea the PH of my well water I purchased this kit - unable to find the type of kit I had originally. I do not care for the liquid additive but the biggest issue is that the instructions tell you how to test the water but not how much PH up or down to add to balance the water. I had to look the information up on line. Since my water was very alkaline I found it difficult no matter how much PH lowering liquid I added to get anywhere near a more neutral PH level - after some serious research I found that most fresh water fish are find in a more alkaline environment so I've given up trying to balance the water and the fancy gold fish and African pygmy frogs I have in the tank are doing just fine. ... show more
