The APC Back-UPS BE600M1 is a compact 600VA/330W UPS battery backup and surge protector designed to help protect home and office electronics during power outages, voltage fluctuations and damaging electrical surges. This APC UPS features seven NEMA 5-15R outlets: five provide battery backup and surge protection, while two provide surge-only protection. Use this uninterruptible power supply as a battery backup for a computer, monitor, Wi-Fi router, modem, networking equipment, gaming console and other essential electronics. During a power outage, the BE600M1 supplies temporary battery power to connected equipment, helping you stay connected, save important work and safely shut down your computer. This computer UPS features a 490-joule surge energy rating, audible alarms and LED status indicators that provide clear notification of UPS and utility power conditions. A built-in 1.5A USB charging port provides convenient charging for compatible mobile devices, even when available AC outlets are occupied. We have suffered some short power outages (between 5 - 10 seconds) pretty often recently. It would take several minutes for our mesh router to get back online and several minutes for the satellites to then establish connectivity.     • Exactly what you need to keep your network up during outages
Bought this specifically to keep my router and modem running during power outages and it does the job perfectly. Living in Texas where grid reliability can be unpredictable, having a UPS on networking gear is just common sense — and this APC unit has already proven its worth multiple times. The 600VA/330W capacity is more than enough to power a typical router and modem setup, and the runtime is genuinely useful rather than just a few seconds of buffer. You get enough time to either wait out a brief flicker without your connection dropping, or ride out a longer outage and stay connected for a meaningful stretch. For anyone working from home, that continuity can save a lot of headaches. When the power went out during a recent storm, the UPS kept my network up long enough to keep my kids entertained until the power came back on (30-45 minutes later). Seven outlets is a nice bonus — 5 with full battery backup and surge protection, and 2 that are surge-only — so you can protect additional gear beyond just your networking equipment. The USB charging port is a handy extra touch. Setup is completely plug-and-play with no configuration needed. APC is a trusted name in UPS gear and the build quality reflects that.     • Back up battery took care of the power problems
I have had this now for I think almost two months. I use it as a back up battery for a DVR and two 12-volt security cameras. It replaced a much more powerful Cyberpower 1500 AVR, which last five years so I have no complaints. The replacement batteries for that unit cost more than this new one. I got this unit because we were entering Florida's bad storm season and, as it was, for months I was having brown outs in my house, sometimes twice a day. (Those also stopped because I started keeping logs and sent complaints to the power company) but anyway, when the brown outs, or sags, occurred, it would knock my DVR off and then system would shut down. It was getting to be a nuisance, and I spent a lot of time troubleshooting -- was it my DVR going, my router etc. It turns out it was the sag, or abrupt power outage, that wreaks the most havoc with power equipment. So these sags starting up around January, 2020, increasing in frequency, was causing a lot of problems with my system, and causing stress to my equipment. I can't emphasize enough, if you have important electronics, do yourself a favor and get some battery back ups, at least if the power abruptly goes out, it will give you a chance to turn everything off, things like the TV, the stereo, your security cameras -- though for those you'd want a stronger back up to keep them running. We had a bad storm a year ago and my two Cyberpower back ups kept my six security cameras and DVR running for four hours. Anyway, this smaller, and much more affordable system has done a great job when we get hit with a slag. Putting complaints in writing to the power company also help, because those folks will get sloppy. I would recommend this if you have three or four low volt devices. It is easy to use, arrived on time, I spent 24 hours making sure it was all charged and it has done a great job! I cannot comment on the wi fi that was listed here, because I don't believe a back up battery comes with wi fi -- so I don't know what that was about. The battery back up does have some other features, such as software so you can control it with your computer, but that is not needed for my purpose. This was a good-priced battery back up that I needed in a pinch, made by a good company. When I have the extra money, I will replace the other batteries for the stronger unit. You can never have enough battery back up if you live in an area with lightning storms. ... show more

    • Pretty decent for the price
Finally ended up using this the other day during a power outage. It switched on seamlessly so I didn't notice the Wi-Fi going out which is nice. I only have the router and modem hooked up to it and it stayed on for about 3-4 hours before dying. I can't imagine that the router and modem have that high of a power draw (probably around 50w max combined) so I would've expected it to last a bit longer, but 3-4 hours is still pretty decent. ... show more

    • May be Impossible to get it going and no telling what protection you have
Dumb Engineering - you have to take off the back cover, take out the battery, and connect one lead to the battery. This connection is a difficult press-fit. I managed to get it on, my wife would not have been able to, and would have pulled back when sparks ("Sparks flying when this connection is being made are normal" - from the Manual) started flying. Then on the top where the plugs are, some of the plugs get surge protection AND battery backup, and some only get surge protection - no back up. They are all marked identically - you have to get the instructions and notice that this is the case and study carefully to determine which is which. You could easily - I almost did - end up with the computer you bought the UPS for not getting battery back up. I have 5 other APS UPS devices and none had this nonsense. I feel badly for APS and DO NOT RECOMMEND this product. ... show more

    • Happy to report automatic restart and no beep! APC UPS 600VA
Bought this to keep track of my smart home features and camera when power is out. I have blink cameras, and multiple water sensors, security sensors on the home. They are all battery powered and dependent on WiFi. Power doesn't go out often in my area, but when it does I completely loose WiFi and access to my cameras/sensors. This solves the problem, at least for a few hours. On initial unboxing there is a quality control receipt showing all parameters have been checked and passed. This is a good indication the company is aware of possible QC issues, and has made efforts to correct them. There is also an idiot proof sticker over the outlets reminding you to open the battery cover and plug in the battery prior to using the unit, as battery is shipped unplugged. The battery plug appeared very basic, dare I say cheap, it is nothing special just a standard blade terminal connector. Mine actually sparked at connector with initial connection, this did not appear to effect the function of the device. After plugging in the battery the green power light lit up, I plugged in my modem/router, and all my internet dependent hubs. Everything booted up as normal. 2 things I was worried about: 1. Would it beep/alarm the entire time when the power is out. The answer is no, at lease for the 600 unit, it does not beep when running on battery power. From other reviews it seems possible to change this to alarm if that is the desired function, and there is what appears to be a mute symbol next to the power button which I assume would be used to adjust this setting. That being said mine was set to not beep from the factory and I left it. 2. Would it automatically power up when power is restored after complete battery drain. This was another situation that was crucial to work as needed for me. I travel frequently and if the power is out for long enough to drain the battery completely, I need it to power on automatically when power is restored. If it doesn't then my wifi will be down until I return to power it up, this is a deal breaker for me. Fortunately with my tests the battery lasted upwards of 4hrs running the modem and wireless router, streaming video on my TV. ... show more

    • Perfect for home router / cameras
I bought this UPS based on the features. 600va is the sweet spot for people who need basic protection for a few hours during a power event. I installed this unit in our family cabin where power can fluctuate frequently. I connected my DSL router, a small LED light and a Nest camera. I tested the runtime by waiting for the unit to become fully charged, then unplugged it with the three devices left on. I got about 3 hours of runtime before the alarm went off indicating a drained battery. That's adequate for me because it gives me time and protection needed to react to a prolonged power event. It also offers protection against intruders who might see the cameras and shut off power from the outside. Because Nest is cloud based, I am able to keep the protection should an intruder attempt to gain access by cutting the power. Another benefit of this configuration is that I am able to get an alert when the UPS goes on battery using the software built in. I have a small arduino connected to this UPS that has their power chute software installed and configured to email me should the unit go on battery. With this setup, I have time to react by driving to the cabin to take care of the situation. This is important in the winter months as we drive small space heaters to keep pipes from bursting. Now I have an alarm to indicate trouble, allowing me to visit the cabin and drain the water, etc. I did not give it 5 stars because I believe that these units should evolve and have WiFi on board to connect to a home router and perform basic alerts without having the need to use their software and another computer. If APC would invest some development $$ into making these more friendly to WIFi like many other devices today, it could generate more sales and would gain more customers. I would have liked to have had a simpler setup if the unit had WiFi on board and an app on my phone. Programmatically, it wouldn't be that difficult but I don't run their R&D department so I can't say for sure why they don't put more development thought into making these units smarter. Overall, the device does what it says it will do and it gives me a bit more peace of mind knowing it is there to protect our family vacation home.
