All the knives performed exquisitely for me, and I had no issues with them (so far). My one and only gripe is that the shears that came with this have a cheap plastic handle! I was expecting something more substantial since the rest of the pieces were great.

    • Cutting Edge on a Budget

This is a decent kitchen knife set, and probably priced about right at the current $54.99, well below the going price for many high-quality kitchen knife sets. Despite the set’s low price, the performance is adequate, particularly as a starter set. If you think you’ll want to expand your knife collection, you’ll be storing the newcomers somewhere else, of course, as there are no additional slots in the wood block. There is no question, these blades will cut. They are quite sharp, and the edge seems consistent from end to end. There is no sharpening tool supplied for future maintenance, however. And, speaking of maintenance, keep in mind that these are carbon steel blades and should be dried off after using to avoid rust, unlike stainless steel blades which may be left to air dry. The scissors also cut well. They are short, but adequate for many kitchen applications. Their large handle is plastic. A knife’s feel in the hand is likely a matter of personal taste. In my opinion, the handles are probably best suited to smaller hands. I would prefer that the handles be a little heavier, or higher density, as well. If you tap the side of the knife tip on a hard surface, the blade will vibrate a little like a tuning fork, and the vibrations carry on up through the handle. It just makes for a little less than a high-quality feel, in my opinion. The knives all look great, as does the classy-looking wood block, which is quite heavy, as it should be. It is understandably hard to predict how long these blades will hold up in the long run, but for now, they are satisfactory, particularly for the price. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I enjoy cooking and like using good quality knives. I also like trying out new knives, so I was happy to have the opportunity to try out this set. These knives are well balanced, are comfortable to hold, and have full-tang construction. I like the decorative center rivet, which adds a nice decorative touch to the handles. The three larger blades are precisely ground and are very sharp. The utility knife has a sharp and somewhat dangerous transition from the edge of the blade to the bolster, as shown in my photo. The paring knife also has a little roughness in that area. The label that is applied to the knife block is not perfectly level. It is off only 1/8", but it is noticeable to the eye. Due to the issues with the paring and utility knives, and the label not being level, I am deducting one star. Otherwise, this is a very nice set of knives. ... show more

Handles are very nice in the hand nice and smooth with a classy wood look. We retired our old set after using this a couple of times. After spending most of my life using the kitchen mostly for unpacking take-out and nuking frozen meals, changing circumstances are requiring that I need to start actually preparing my meals from scratch. I explain this to state up-front that I'm not a gourmet chef nor am I an expert on knives, so my review is from the perspective of an enthusiastic amateur. But one thing I've learned is that a good set of knives will make my kitchen activities a lot easier, and so I am delighted with this set of AOKEDA knives. To start with, they are sharp. And by "sharp", I mean really, *really* sharp! I had read that I might need to hone new knives to get them adequately sharp, but that certainly isn't necessary for these beauties! I ordered the 7-piece set, which includes a chef knife, a slicing knife, a bread knife, a paring knife, a utility knife, some kitchen shears, and a wood block to store them all in. I'm sure a professional chef would want the extra goodies in the 16-piece set, but the basic set will more than meet my needs. The knives are comfortable to use and seem well-balanced. The product description says the blades are "X50CR15 stainless steel and hardened to 55° Rockwell" -- that means nothing to me, but it sounds impressive (and probably is). In short, I anticipate getting a lot of use out of these high-quality (and did I mention sharp?) kitchen knives, and I'm actually looking forward to improving my culinary skills. ... show more
