Full disclaimer: I am providing this review in an attempt to be as objective as possible. With that in mind we'll get right into it! So you're thinking about buying a DTF printer maybe start personalizing personal items, or products you intend to sell as you start a business. Well I hope you find this information helpful! Let's start with the PROs: •The printer itself is lightweight •The printer doesn't take up a massive amount of surface space. •You don't have to learn a zillion different buttons that are on the printer. •If you're buying the kit that has ink, sublimation powder as well as film, you've got a great head start to begin testing and printing your designs. You get a hundred sheets of film which honestly you'll probably burn about a quarter of it testing out prints and making common new user mistakes. •You have an Epson brand printer, which is good if you know people who are familiar with Epson product outside of the provided technical support. •The output for your designs and graphics is amazing when everything is in perfect order! You won't be disappointed by the colors and the brilliance of the the work you were creating. •If you purchase the full kit - the ink, and the sublimation powder should last you a long time, closer to a couple of months if you are conservative about your usage. •The print speed is reasonable, some people like a super fast print, others like it to go slowly so that they can work in other areas, but this one moves at a reasonable pace which will allow you to work a little bit off to the side while waiting for the final product to produce. The CONs: •Set up of the software on your computer can be a task. What I had to do which maybe necessary for many of you is disabled the firewall security setting on your computer as well as temporarily suspend your antivirus so that you can install the program and then run it. Once you have it fully installed you can reinstate your firewall and your antivirus software for typical use. I had to go deep into my settings to turn off some functions, so don't be surprised if you have to take the same course. For reference, I had a Avast and their security program has lots of menus and deep menus but they can be paused so that you can do your installation. Don't let it frustrate you! •The software itself is not robust in any way shape or form. It's not a design studio. So if you intend to build graphics to print, you need to have them already pre-made and saved off as jpegs or pngs so that the printer recognizes the file type and can spit out what you're looking for. The most you can do in terms of design is scale the image (making it bigger or smaller). You can also arrange for an array of the design if it's small enough to fit multiple copies onto one sheet. To that point, you may not want to change the orientation of the sheet size, this will create smearing and strange outputs when printing. Most people want to scale their images to the furthest margin on each side, but that may not always be the best idea just keep that in mind. If you start to see smearing or gaps in your print, think about reducing the size. •The paper feed which is where you load the film before you print, is compatible best with the film that is provided in your kit. Cutting corners and purchasing film outside of the suggested retail environment has drawbacks. The primary one that I find is that using double-sided matte film is good only for a short run of prints. But it's going to make a complete mess inside your internal components. Therefore ordering glossy film, where one side is glossy and the other side is matte, is best. Stick with the brand that they ship you and try not to deviate to some of these other third-party films. They do the same job but the problem is you're going to find multiple sheets of film feeding through the printer at one time, which will distort your image and or create massive paper jams. The printer requires a lot of maintenance daily and weekly. Everyday you should shake your ink, before you print anything, you should always run a nozzle check to see if your inks are loaded correctly, you'll know they're not based on the consistency of the colors that come out in the example that they provide. A head cleaning is a good thing to do every few days, and a power ink flush should be done once a week. It's a very important step so if you don't intend to be diligent about keeping your item maintain, I would not buy this printer at all. •It doesn't seem like the print alignment is perfectly oriented right outside the box. So you may want to run a test print to see where it plots your ink. Please don't expect for it to center your centered graphics. There are some deep minis settings that will allow for you to adjust the orientation based on the general printer's diagnostic. •In kind, the maintenance of your printer can be a little bit of a hassle. You have to clean inside and outside to make sure that you get the best possible output. But do not try to skip this step. You won't be able to use your printer for very long if that's the case. Things to know: •When you bring your graphic into the program you will have many options to toggle with before you begin printing. You have to pay attention to your graphic's orientation. •Don't let anything spill off the edge of the margins of your paper canvas otherwise it's not going to show up. Also, mirror your image! If you don't mirror your image before you print it you're going to get an image in reverse and it's going to look crazy LOL Printing in all white requires a couple of steps. •Once it's done, it will look beautiful, but it's not going to be easy to just get it right out the gate. So pay very close attention to your graphic designs and make sure that you're not printing anything from a pure white perspective. It has to be a twinge of yellow black or blue in order for it to present as pure white. •When you are preparing to print your print settings in the menus before you send it to print it has to be perfectly aligned with your color versus white settings and quantities for each, otherwise you're going to get error messages and you're also may get multiple prints that separate the layers of white and color. This printer has the ability to print color first and then white as a background base, which is necessary in many cases. But if you're not set up right you'll get your base and your colors on separate film which is a waste of film and it's a waste of ink. •One nice feature about the printer is that it gives you the ability to control the percentage of ink output as you are printing. The default settings for CMYK are 80% and then for white at 60%. You can increase any of those or decrease them as you need to. If you're going to do something that requires brilliant popping colors, consider upping the amount of CMYK from 80 to 90 or maybe even 100%. But be warned, the more ink you have on your film, the more chances there will be of ink running together and running down the film. You definitely want to sublimate your film before you set it down and walk away. •Some of you are going to have a lot of maintenance issues with your printer. It's going to seem like you're always cleaning it and resetting it back to its original format. That's okay, but take your time and do what you need to do to keep it preserved. Don't leave your printer unhandled for longer than a week. It's going to cause you some major problems down the road. Also don't be tempted to take your printer apart like you see in all of these YouTube videos. When you do that, you're going to avoid your warranty. And if you did not buy extended coverage, you're going to suffer dearly for that. Make sure you keep a routine on cleaning your product early in the morning or late at night so that you always know that it's done on the schedule. •Printer accessories are not alike. Don't just buy any DTF ink make sure it's compatible to your machine. •The distributor that ships you your printer has technical support available by text and phone if you need them. For the most part they are responsive. There may be some pause and getting an instant answer, so make sure you leave messages in both phone and text. Be very clear about what your issue is so that they can better help you. •The last thing to mention about this printer that is very important is that this is for A4 size paper. You're not going to be able to print on anything wider. The difference between an A3 and an A4 is how long is the shortest end of the film. An A4 is basically the size of a sheet of notebook paper give or take fractional inches. That won't cover the entire shirt unless you use two films and you split your graphic in half. Just keep that in mind. It costs more for an A3 because it prints on a wider surface. No there's no way for you to modify the printer to print wider. I'm so sorry. In conclusion: My final need to know message for you is this - the return on the quality. You're going to get some really great prints when your printer is producing work. If you are a startup biz or maybe Semi-Pro and using this printer, you will be pleased. It does a very good job, it just has to be maintained and worked with care everyday. I try to lay it out for you guys the way I needed it laid out for me when I was making a final purchase decision. I give it three stars because for all of its headaches and nuances that might seem to get on one's nerves, it does have some redeemable quality. Your final product went applied to your fabrics and other merchandise will feel really good to you and to your customer. I don't get paid for this plug nor do I get money for endorsing this seller, but I will say that everything considered, this is a good starting tool but it's going to teach you quickly all the things to pay attention to when you decide to scale up to the next printer.
