  • Great Printer - Do your homework first!
I have been printing for a little while now and had the opportunity to pick up the Anycubic Photon Mono and jumped at it. Anycubic makes some really great resins and I decided to give their printer a shot. I have a Creality LD002R that I started on and will be making some comparisons where I can. For frame of reference - the LD002R is a great machine - but the Photon Mono would be more in direct competition with the LD002H model. Out the gates there are some things I love and some things I am not so fond of. First the good. Good: 1: I love how quiet this thing is. Compared to my Creality, the Photon Mono is next to SILENT. Very quiet. It is quicker than my other printers - compared to the LD002R it prints at about 50% faster speeds. It prints at about 20% faster than my LD002H. From what I have read it comes down to light intensity of the UV cure lamp. Its brighter and that results in faster speeds for more accurate prints. 2: Accurate: This machine gives beautiful quality miniatures (my principal use) with very little issue. One thing I do need to stress here is that this is not a great machine for a stock standard beginner. It does require a little bit of experience and knowledge in how to use your software. I went from using Chitubox with my Creality, to using Blender, Windows 3D, and Lychee slicer. If there are issues with the STL models you download it will create issues with your print. These three programs will help you find them and fix them. You will also need to know how to set up your supports. For how fast this printer prints, you will have loads of print failures if you don't have a firm understanding of how to set your supports. I recommend looking at all online resources here. You will also need to make sure you program the software correctly to interface with your printer AND YOUR RESIN combo. You can get really great speeds out of this machine if you set up your software correctly. I stress this is a SOFTWARE and not a printer issue. The printer is great, but the wrong settings will have you cursing the day you purchased your machine...and I guarantee you will find the issue with your resin or printer settings in your slicer software or because of a artifact issue in the print. Bad: (these are more preference things than any true issues with the machine) 1: The lid needs to be completely set on the machine for it to work. If the lid is off even a small amount it will result in the print not proceeding. While this is a great safety and exposure feature, it is a small annoyance if you have any little bit of something on the lid base causing it to not make a full connection. 2: The FEP: This is actually a big deal for me. In the picture you can see that the FEP is a full solid assembly. You cannot replace the sheet using the tools given. The FEP is pressed into a frame - making it resilient but if you are careless and set it down and get a deformity or hole in the FEP, the replacement is $35 and when I have tons of replacement sheets on hand for my other machines - its just a hassle to have a specialized FEP that you either have to keep on hand or purchase a third-party part to use your existing FEP sheets. I ended up purchasing the Sovol 3D Resin vat that fits nicely and comes with nice silicone covers for when they are not in use. That all being said, the Resin vat is a great design, comes with a pour spout corner that is very useful for straining resin back into your bottle. As to the other things that come in the package, I was not surprised to see the traditional stuff, the Allen wrenches, the resin strainers etc. What I was impressed by were the masks, gloves and super sturdy wooden handled scraper. everything else I have ever received have been plastic handled or small, but this was a solid piece of kit to have. Overall - this is a solid, well built machine that I will use for a long time. I recommend the Sovol Resin vat and either flex build plates or roughing up the original build plate with a bit of steel wool. 4.5/5 ... show more

  • Anycubic Photon Mono M7
Having had issues with the Mono M5s from the day I bought it. I wanted to replace it and was hesitant to buy another Anycubic printer, but the Photon Mono M7 is excellent. Having watch YouTube reviews of this machine, I went with the M7 option. I bought a heater for the M5s which I switched over to the M7. I figure the M7Pro attached heater to the resin fill vat looked like it would be an issue and, the automatic resin refill would only be something else to clean out so, I passed on the higher end M7's. On my first print, I forego the various test prints found on the enclosed USB drive and went straight to doing a print of a Velma Dinkley figure, that was my print test, and it came out great. I done the same figure in FDM and compared to resin, there's no going back to filament. I love the easy cleanup of the supports Using the High-Speed resin, the four print jobs I done so far all came in just over an hour. The one I just now finished, 52 minutes. Only wish Anycubic will bring down the price of their High-Speed resin. Two notes, the odor of the high-speed is stronger than the regular resin and, this one is a little bit louder than my M5s but considering the great printing it's doing, who cares. Only issue I have and it's not with the printer but the Anycubic slice program, and that is it's hit and miss when you're trying to hollow the subject. Often times it won't, and you wind up using more resin for the print job. Something I contacted Anycubic support about. I found using Chitubox as my slicer, hollowing is not an issue and that is now my go to slicer program. So far, I am very pleased with this printer. Set-up wasn't difficult and unlike the M5s, I have not gotten one fault indication. I tried light and medium supports and had no issues with plate adhesion and the prints easily comes off the build plate. I would certainly purchase this printer again which I hope won't need to for a few years from now. And would recommend it to family and friends. ... show more

  • An excellent way to get into 3D printing
Note: I will not go into a comparison between FDM and Resin 3D printing for this review. Pros: Simple set up Intuitive menu High quality prints Entry level friendly Very high tolerances Consistent Cons: Protection of the LCD screen Mishap clean up Quirks: Touch screen controls are slightly off Background: I am an engineer and I have been designing components to work with 3D printing and 3D printing since 2012. This is my first resin 3D printer after a history with FDM and designing a SLS 3D printer for printing nylon. I originally chose to purchase a 3D printer with the intent to print custom connectors for robotics applications, small components with high tolerances, prototypes, small scale production, and a few figurines. Detailed Review: The setup is very simple with all tools provided and little room for error following simple instructions which when combined with the intuitive menu that gives you a preview of the print makes this an excellent choice for someone getting into 3D printing or switching over to FDM. I was incredibly surprised with the precision of the prints, the amount of details, and the final processed measurements. The quality of the print has actually required me to model more components such as threads, cogs, and gears rather than use someone else’s model due to fitment. (Those models will still work fine for most hobby applications but for precision applications with limited slippage or precise alignment it is better to design to your machine) It is important to note that I find that the cover does an excellent job at keeping the smell of resin out of the room, but it is highly recommended that you keep any open resin in a well ventilated area and use an appropriate mask if you will be around it for a long period of time such as a cull cleaning of the vat. I have been printing non-stop to test if the performance degrades and have found no issues as long as I ensure that the build plate is clean and there isn’t anything stuck to the FEP. An inspection of the device (from an engineering perspective) revealed a potential issue with how the LCD screen protected. The LCD itself appears to be protected by a layer of glass that is recessed from the aluminum plate. While this protects from being scraped by the vat, it could cause some issues cleaning if resin were to end up on the glass or surrounding aluminum. Glancing at other printers in the price range, it appears that all of the competition will have the same potential issue if Resin is spilled. As long as you are careful with the vat and research and test if you decide to replace the FEP, you shouldn’t run into any issues. One quirk I have noticed is that the touch screen controls appear to be slightly out of calibration making it easier to fat thumb things. I don’t know if that quirk is on all units or just mine but it is still easy to use and a stylus with a smaller effective area than your finger is fool proof (I still use my finger). Conclusion: Overall I am incredibly happy with this unit and would recommend that anyone looking into getting into 3D printing especially that of figurines. Potential users: As with all precision devices and machines, you should always research before attempting something new and maintain your machine. So get out there and find forums and youtube videos on how to get the best prints and take care of the printer. For the fellow engineers: Your selection of resin is very important for the durability of your parts. Print in place objects such as bearings are very difficult to cure as they typically have high tolerances in enclosed places where it is difficult for you to get UV light to do a full cure. ... show more

  • Adds exciting functionality and now vat heating has been implemented

I made this purchase early just after the initial reviews appeared. Overall, the machine is quite exciting. I have printed several large models on a single plate, something that I could not do with my Saturn 3. The build is very solid. The flip up cover is excellent (I will never purchase another resin printer without one). The wifi connectivity is good and the interface of the screen and app are both well-advanced. HOWEVER, I could not make automatic vat heating system work. The vat would heat, but as soon as it reached temperature, it automatically turned off, which makes the feature essentially useless. Readers of Fauxhammer's review and JD3Tech's review have lately reported this problem with their printers and several said they contacted Anycubic about the issue. Apparently Anycubic has been aware of this and has said that it will be rectified. Had I know that a false claim was being made by Anycubic about this important feature, I would not have purchased the machine. Update to review after several firmware updates. I corresponded with Anycubic about the initial vat heating issue. A representative responded almost immediately, and asked for details about my experience. The representative came back to me the next day with responses and asked several additional questions. The vat heating issue was outlined as was the pathway to updating the software to implement vat heating without undue strain on the electrical load. Now, the vat heating issue has been addressed, the most recent firmware update having dropped in April. I have tested the vat heating with all the updates through this one (4.0.9.8). Heating now works well. I did a print for 21 hours yesterday into this morning. The room temperature was 18 C. I had the vat temperature set to 30 C. The temperature slowly dropped to 26.5 C during the burn-in layers. The heater apparently turns off while the light is on (Anycubic had told me that is how they planned to address the problem). Each time the light turned off, the temperature quickly increased 0.3 C, then slowly decreased during the next burn in light-on. Once the burn-in layers were complete the temperature increased back to 30 C (since the light was on only for 1.5 second at a time compared to the 20 seconds it was on for each burn-in layer. Once it was back to 30 C - about 4 layers into the main print, the temp was always between 31 and 31.5 C during the entire time the model was printing. I was quite pleased with the stability. I remain quite pleased with the printer, especially since I usually print large models. For small models I use my Anycubic M4 Ultra. I have changed from the ACF film supplied with the M7 Max, to PFA/FEP since this allows for greater resolution - I use FEP on both of my printers (see for example the Fauxhammer review of the M7 Max on Youtube). Now, if a 16k LCD upgrade kit could be had, this would be a perfect printer. ... show more

  • Atm do not recommend- 0 successful -15 failed prints

I wish I never bought it. I have been printing for 5 years with elegoo and always wanted a bigger machine. I hoped this would be the machine for me but after 15 prints and not one successful print, I am lost and 3 days over returning it and frustrated. No matter the settings, acf/feps I swap or replace i get terrible results. I dont understand how this machine has 4.2 stars and so many positive reviews. Problems: 1st: The Zaxis plate is so misaligned/installed incorrectly that ita about to take off the resin vat refiller as you can see if the photos. Its actually scrapping the front of it. 2nd: Build plate is and came warped. The build plate is not machined flat. As you can see the light in the photo 3rd: Acf film breaks easily. After 3 prints I had to replace my feb which ripped a small hole. 4th: The Vat refiller does not work. No matter what settings I try to get it to turnon, it refuses to refill the Vat 5th: Adhesion on the plate is extremely poor. After using 80, 120, and 180 on different prints it still does not stick. 6th: It keeps telling me residue detected on a fresh clean tank, plate, and filtered resin Pros: 1st: The wireless printing is nice 2nd: The slicer for anycubic is really nice Overall if I could return this printer I would. I havent had one successful print on this since i got it. No amount of settings I change or tweak I always get a failed print. In fairness, I have not contacted support, but I fear there is so much wrong with it we are in total replacement category. Im not sure im just at a loss. Im really disappointed this $900 machine does not work and came like this from the manufacturer. I saved up to buy this printer. Ive had twins both with rsv right now and been busy and I missed the return window and just frustrated. I plan to reach out to Anycubic for help and will change my review if they help me, but with Quality control letting units out the door like this is disappointing. At the moment I would not recommend buying this machine what so ever. Edit Feb 8th: Anycubic team has actually reached out to me offering to help through amazon.   • Great printer for the size, but hard to find information about the printer for beginners.
The Photon Mono 2k is a great little printer. It shipped quickly and got to me in great shape. The form factor is smaller than my older Epax x1 and the build quality is not up to the all metal Epax but for half the price that I paid for the Epax 2 years ago I don't expect the build itself to feel as sturdy. I hate the touch screen on all these printers, they don't feel responsive and my fingers tend to click the button above/below what I really want. I wish the power cable had a basic plug on it vs having a big block, since I have a few printers on a power strip. The print quality is fantastic, I think 2k is a great pixel count for this size of screen. Gives great thin lines even though my first print had a bit of an issue. (See picture) So in all this printer works great out of the box, we will see how well it keeps over time. One thing Anycubic can really improve on is support for beginners as well as third party slicers. The official slicer software is crap. You can use Chitubox but there is very little documentation out there unless you join the Facebook groups and even then due to how Anycubic named the photons you end up finding old information for the original photon not the newer ones. This happens when all your machines share names other than the company. Another issue is I could not find any "starter" values for common resins. I used Anycubic standard gray in my tests and couldn't find a good length of exposures times to test with. The test cube file on the usb printed fine, though was a bit bitter and cracked while trying to get it off the plate, but I have no idea what the settings for that cube were. Considering Anycubic is a company that has an entire ecosystem from printers to resins to cure and wash stations (which I also have) I would expect them to try to provide as many details as possible to show that eco system can just work. I am an experienced printer and I know each machine is slightly different, and temperature and other environmental factors can affect the cure, but for god sake having some simple "starter" values for your resin in your machines would be great. I imagine 90% of beginners will buy Anycubic resin with the machine because they assume they work well together before branching out to other brands. So please provide beginner values for slicing with your machines and you resins. Not everyone wants to learn how to determine the best quality the moment they open the machine, especially when they are putting it through the test paces. In the photos, left was on the Anycubic and right was on my 2 year old epax x1. Resins are not the same, in the epax I am using a esun standard with tenacious mix. Both prints in my opinion are fails. Anycubic lost connection in a thin spot, which may be due to exposure times, temp, or purely just how brittle the resin is. The Epax didn't correctly print the point. One other thing to note is that the Anycubic's edges are a lot sharper and thinner than the Epax. I believe that is due to a combination of the resin and also the 2k screen. ... show more

  • Large format resin printer with a good balance of price to quality.

I've had this for a few months and just shy of 1000hrs and for my first SLA printer Im very pleased. The biggest winner for me is the heated cat which as I grew more experienced with resin printing, was a bigger selling point than I realized. The photon worshop slicer is easy and preloaded with Anycubic resin. Even with a 3rd party resin they're similar enough to copy the profile over. Realistically, despite the marketing all the printers are virtually the same capabilities. Other large format printers are significantly more for marginal difference which makes this an excellent value for the price. The resin pump only fits Anycubics bottles which is to be expected though I rarely use it. It's there as an emergency top off if a big print starts to run low more than anything. It's incredibly easy to align and that was the only setup involved. The dual linear bearings give it a very sturdy feeling to the build plate, along with the metal vat. The plastic body and cover feel sturdy along with the weight. Unlike some of the pricier brands, it's easily compatible with other brands of resin though I still gravitate towards Anycubic for their abs-like resin unless using Siraya's downloaded profiles. It certainly doesn't feel industrial or a lab design aesthetic like some but for the price it's sturdy where it needs to be. The only thing I don't like, which I've since found to be nearly universal with resin printers is the software is shockingly unfinished. I was surprised coming from FDM printers to find some settings can only be toggled on the device, some in the slicer. It still feels like resin printer software is very bare bones compared to the power, yet intuitive design of FDM slicers. ... show more

  • Spoiled by my first 3D printer
After looking into and reading about 3D printing in general, I settled on waiting for the Photon Zero release - and boy did it pay off. I wanted a printer that could make detailed miniatures and this fit the bill nicely! That said, be aware that you definitely need technical aptitude and to do your research priot to 3D printing with resin. All of my prints I did using Anycubic ECO Gray or ECO Green. Pros: - Securely packaged and easy to assemble - was printing in 20 minutes! - Good instructions included with build plate leveling guide. - Resin exposure test on the included USB to get the best possible quality (Print this or the cube first!). - Included software supports 16x Anti-aliasing for smooth surfaces. - Comes with a sturdy metal scraper instead of plastic like other models. - Included gloves, mask, tools, paper filters. - The UV cover is easy to see progress through and masks resin odor well during printing. - VERY detailed, claims to support 0.01mm printing on their site, though I have done mine at 0.02 or 0.05. - You can pause and resume your print without having to wait for the whole thing to finish! Great for finding any mistakes you make modelling early, and not wasting resin. Cons: - Smaller build plate than most - not intended for large projects. - No extra FEPs or resin included, but easy to find elsewhere. This also keeps the price down I imagine. - Only supports .pw0 sliced files at the moment, not the usual .photon files. - The hobby itself still requires research! Look for help below. Here are some helpful guides/tips to get prepped: A.) Don't be afraid to ask/google for help! There are some great troubleshooting tips and plces to ask for help on the Anycubic Facebook group, and the /r/AnycubicPhoton subreddit. B.) Set up a digital workflow - figure out what software tools to use and in what order. I do the following: - First, I auto-orient the model(s) in Prusaslicer if needed, then export to a new STL file - Second, I add automated supports (75-85%) in Chitubox and hollow/add drainage holes for larger prints - Third, slice the STL and look for unsupported "islands" using Photon File Validator - Finally, set the exposure times and layer thickness in the included Photon Workshop, slice, and print! C.) Set up a cleaning workflow - Anycubic now sells a Wash & Cure station to greatly help with this, too. - Always wear gloves and a mask, and have paper/shop towels for cleanup. - After printing I remove the plate and scrape off the print with the included scraper into a bin. - I rinse for 15-30 seconds in rubbing alcohol, then in some cleaner like LA's Totally Awesome, then a quick swish back in the IPA - I cut off any supports or platforms while the resin is still soft using a hobby knife or clippers. It's MUCH easier than doing it post-cure. - Drop into a tub of water and under a UV light inside a reflective tape-coated box for 10 minutes or so. The object is cured when it doesn't feel tacky. - Wipe off the build plate with with rubbing alcohol - If not printing again soon, filter unused resin from the vat back into a bottle using the included paper filters.
