Frequently Asked Questions 1: Will this dock work with any laptop? How do I make sure my laptop works with this dock? This dock works with laptops with a Thunderbolt 3 port, or with a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and Power Delivery. To confirm the USB-C port function of your laptop, consult your user manual or contact your laptop’s manufacturer. 2: Do I need to install any drivers to use the dock? For macOS and Windows 10 and 8.1, the operating system will download and install the necessary drivers automatically. For Windows 7 or Linux, please be sure your Intel Thunderbolt software is installed. You can contact our support team for confirmation. 3: What kind of cable should I use to connect the dock to my laptop? It’s recommended that you use the included Thunderbolt 3 cable. If you need to use a different cable (due to loss etc.), then another Thunderbolt 3 cable would also be compatible. 4: How many external displays can this dock support and what are the maximum resolutions? This dock supports connection to two external monitors—one connected via the HDMI 2.0 port, and another via the USB-C Thunderbolt 3 downstream port. You can also connect to a third monitor by connecting a USB-C to dual HDMI adapter to the Thunderbolt 3 downstream port. Below are the maximum resolutions: 1) Single monitor: 5K (5120 x 2880 @ 60Hz) via the Thunderbolt 3 downstream port; 4K (4096 x 2160 @ 60 Hz) via the HDMI port. 2) Dual monitor: 4K (4096 x 2160 @ 60 Hz) via the Thunderbolt 3 downstream port and HDMI port. 3) Triple monitor: 4K (4096 x 2160 @ 60 Hz) via the HDMI port; 2 × 4K@30Hz via the Thunderbolt 3 downstream port using a USB-C to dual HDMI adapter. 5: Why does the dock feel warm? When charging or transferring data at high speed, the dock’s temperature may increase. This heat is dissipated through the aluminum exterior, so it may feel warm to the touch. Don't worry, this is within the normal limits of the dock’s operation. 6: The charging output of the dock is listed as 85W, which is lower than my MacBook charger’s output. Will the dock still be able to power my MacBook? This dock supports up to 85W of charging via the Thunderbolt 3 port on the back of the dock (indicated with a computer icon). It will charge slower than an 87W/96W MacBook charger, but it will still charge at a relatively high speed. • Wont Support High Refresh Rates
This is a very nicely constructed dock, the ports feel solid and the construction is great. Everything works as intended, however be aware there is no display port on this dock, and therefore if your monitor supports higher refresh rates than 60 hz you wont get them. I even tried a Thunderbolt to Displayport cable and it didn't work. However, if you have a 60hz monitor this dock is a great option. BUT, and this is a major BUT. There is no reason to buy this dock over Caldigit TS3+ for 50 to 70 USD less and has more ports and better options for display output. This dock needs to be about 225$ to be a competitive option. ... show more

  • Overheats, not dual 60hz support
Gets incredibly hot, I’ve had other docs that do not even come close to the heat this generates. Does not actually provide dual monitor support at 60 Hz. I've got a USBc LG 4K monitor that supports 60HZ, and if I plug it into the Thunderbolt port on this (tried original cable that works fine in my mac, as well as an anker thunderbolt 3 cable), I can't get anything higher than 30HZ and I can't even get anything higher than 1920x1080. ... show more

  • Poor performance with a high price tag
I do video editing and use my 2017 Macbook Pro with multiple monitors and external high drives. Like many Mac owners, I have gone through a pile of usb C dongle solutions (and a lot of money) in order to find a perfect solution, and with mixed results. I have been hesitant to spend the money on a true thunderbolt dock given their high price tags, but when I saw this product I decided to take the plunge and try to solve my problem by throwing some money at it. Most ports on this docking station work very well. It does get quite hot, which is expected since it passes 85W to the laptop, and all of of the usual ports perform as expected. The availability of an micro sd card slot and multiple usb 3.1 ports are big pluses, but the big selling point and the justification for the high price of this product is the thunderbolt pass through capability, which is where I have run into problems. While the first monitor connected via hdmi works just fine, I cannot establish a reliable connection to a second monitor using the thunderbolt port. I have tested multiple monitors, multiple cables, and multiple devices, including daisy chaining devices (an advertised feature of this product) all with the same result. I CAN establish a connection, but not in a reliable fashion, and as soon as my laptop goes to sleep or is restarted I am greeted with a black screen. The dock works just fine as long as I don't use the thunderbolt port, but that T3 port and pass through ability are the primary selling point of this product. My current solution is to connect a single monitor to the hdmi port, then connecting my other monitors directly to the laptop's T3 ports. As long as the T3 port on the dock is not in use, it works fine. This dongle nightmare is exactly the problem I bought this product to solve, and why I bit the bullet and accepted that premium price tag. Needless to say I am extremely disappointed that the thunderbolt capability of this thunderbolt dock is not functional, at least not in a reliable and consistent manner. ... show more

  • Only 1 port with USB power and no 2nd HDMI port
I've ordered two Hubs and while it mostly works, the issue I have is that out of the four USB-A ports only one port can power devices. Hence, I can only charge my Bose headphones and my Fitbit after each other as I actually only have one port available. The other three are simply useless :( While my two screens are sharp (I couldn't say that with any Totu Hub, which uses a software driver), I can only use one with HDMI and the other with USB-C. Though that's ok, as one is simply a coding screen and doesn't need a high refresh rate and 60Hz is quite enough. Nevertheless, that I have 3 USB-A ports that are simply useless is frustrating. I might return them. ... show more

  • UPDATED: I really wanted this to work
Update: Anker reached out to try and resolve my issues and replaced the product. For a couple of days without using the PD port on the front the unit was running cooler then previous and was seeming to work correct with Ethernet never having any issues this go around. It wasn't until I started using the PD port to keep my iPad charged that the heat climbed more and then started getting strange issues with monitor connected to thunderbolt port and even the HDMI port. Overall I feel like the primary issue with this product is heat related in that it just runs to hot. In comparison the CalDigit TS3 Plus stays around room temperature to the touch and I have had zero flaws with it, this Anker dock would make for an excellent hand warmer. Original: The port layout on this is perfect for my needs, however I have had multiple drops in network connection. Another possible issue was the USB-C PD port on the front I was using to charge my iPad Pro and at times the power on my ipad even while on lock screen didn't appear to be taking charge at a rate fast enough than to avoid a slow drain in battery. ... show more

  • MBP16 REVIEW
Switching from a CalDigit USB C Pro Dock so far performance is much more stable. With the Cal Digit, it was so sensitive to the point where any slight touch to the Thunderbold / USB C cable would cause all my screens to blank out. So far no problems like that there. Driving two ultra wide LG monitors, 1 via HDMI and the other via USB C. Wish this thing had a display port instead but I will purchase an adapter cable and see how that works out. USB C seems to have a limited refresh rate of 30htz ... show more
