  • Works well so far
So far, so good on this hub. The speeds are what I expect and it has been stable. The addition of charge-only ports is a nice touch. It feels sturdy and like it's put together well. The ports are tight and hold well but don't scrape. I have rotten luck with USB 3.0 hubs and only get an average of around 14 months out of them before they die. I hope this one will buck the trend. ... show more

  • A Little Flakey With Linux
UPDATED REVIEW: Had problems. Anker responded promptly with a replacement. Here's my email I sent to Anker support: _______________________ I got the replacement. Thanks. I appreciate your prompt assistance and will update my review. I'm still having the same problem, though. It's a little weird. I have not thoroughly tested this -- that's your job -- but if I have a device plugged into USB port #1 (e.g. HP scanner), I can't plug something into port #7 later (e.g. Android phone). Scanner is fine, but Android won't connect (blue light turns on momentarily, then off). No error message in syslog either. HOWEVER, if I just use USB ports #1 (scanner) and #2 (phone) everything is fine and I can connect, disconnect, reconnect my phone with no problem. Likewise, if I just use USB ports #6 (scanner) and #7 (phone)... no problem. In fact, it seems it's only port #7 that is the problem. This is the syslog when there is a device already plugged into USB port #1, and I plug phone into port #7, the port #7 blue light turns on momentarily, then off: Aug 23 07:30:45 brain kernel: [421641.317749] usb 10-1.4.4: new high-speed USB device number 40 using xhci_hcd Aug 23 07:30:45 brain kernel: [421641.406025] usb 10-1.4.4: New USB device found, idVendor=214b, idProduct=7250 Aug 23 07:30:45 brain kernel: [421641.406028] usb 10-1.4.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=1, SerialNumber=0 Aug 23 07:30:45 brain kernel: [421641.406031] usb 10-1.4.4: Product: USB2.0 HUB Aug 23 07:30:45 brain kernel: [421641.407126] hub 10-1.4.4:1.0: USB hub found Aug 23 07:30:45 brain kernel: [421641.407192] hub 10-1.4.4:1.0: 4 ports detected Aug 23 07:30:46 brain kernel: [421641.830171] usb 10-1.4.4: reset high-speed USB device number 40 using xhci_hcd Aug 23 07:30:46 brain kernel: [421642.127011] usb 10-1.4.4: USB disconnect, device number 40 Aug 23 07:30:46 brain kernel: [421642.143230] usb 10-1.4.4-port3: attempt power cycle Aug 23 07:30:47 brain kernel: [421642.525790] usb 10-1.4.4: new high-speed USB device number 45 using xhci_hcd Aug 23 07:30:47 brain kernel: [421642.613986] usb 10-1.4.4: New USB device found, idVendor=214b, idProduct=7250 Aug 23 07:30:47 brain kernel: [421642.613989] usb 10-1.4.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=1, SerialNumber=0 Aug 23 07:30:47 brain kernel: [421642.613991] usb 10-1.4.4: Product: USB2.0 HUB Aug 23 07:30:47 brain kernel: [421642.615143] hub 10-1.4.4:1.0: USB hub found Aug 23 07:30:47 brain kernel: [421642.615209] hub 10-1.4.4:1.0: 4 ports detected The behavior above is with your hub plugged into a USB 3.0 plug on the motherboard. But I'm pretty sure the behavior was the same or worse if I plugged your hub into a USB 2.0 plug on the motherboard. I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and kernel is Linux 4.4.0-133-generic #159-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 10 07:31:43 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Would you like me to return the original hub? Thanks. _______________________ ORIGINAL REVIEW: Does not work when connected to motherboard USB 3.0. Only when connected to motherboard USB 2.0. And after four weeks, some of the sync ports stopped working. That is to say that some of the sync ports that previously worked for data sync no longer work for data sync, even with USB 2.0. I think internally this Anker hub probably has two separate chipsets, each one servicing several (three or four) of the hub's USB connectors. I suspect one of those internal chipsets died after less than five weeks. Too late for return, so have to contact Anker warranty support. What a pain, and what a disappointment. I wonder how many people even test this device to see if it really operates as a USB 3.0 device as advertised. I bet not many. And I know how to test on Linux, but not Windows. I'm using Linux (Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial). I've purchased other Anker "USB 3.0" hubs in the past -- including the Anker USpeed brand -- and have had the same issue with them being advertised as "USB 3.0" but only operating as a USB 2.0 device. That was in 2012, with an earlier Ubuntu version. Now its 2018, and a more recent Ubuntu version. Thought I'd give it another try. Disappointed. Again. In the future, I'll stick with another brand. ... show more

  • Working as intended, after some tinkering
TL;DR: Had to disable the option to boot to USB (Disabled CFM support in BIOS) in order for the computer to boot when the hub was connected. Otherwise hub seems to be working great. More info on computer and items connected to the hub below. Hub is currently working as intended, and I'll revisit the review if that changes, but I wanted to note some tinkering I had to do on my end to get it to work right. I have a PC that I built myself with a Gigabyte X570 Elite motherboard, and a Samsung EVO M.2 SSD. So I plugged everything into the hub (2 A to C cords on the charging ports, and then my keyboard, mouse, Corsair ST100 headset stand, PC Panel mixer, and a WD 8TB external drive in the data ports (this drive is already powered so no issues on that side)), and then plugged the hub into my computer. Hit the power button and nothing seemed to happen, fans spinning, etc but didn't boot into windows. So I turned of the computer, unplugged the hub, and turned it back on, no problems, reconnected the hub when the PC was on, everything comes to life, so I figured i was good. Came back later after having the computer off and the same issue happened, fans were spinning but the PC wouldn't POST. Turns out it looks like my PC was looking at the hub as a bootable device, so I had to go in to the BIOS and turn off boot to usb (the setting for me was enable/disable CFM support, which I disabled). Restarted computer and voila, hub is still plugged in and PC boots normally. ... show more

  • Gift for my husband
This was for my husband. It arrived on time and was well packaged. He said it works very well and he'd buy again from this seller.

  • Reliable
Had an older hub that caused problems because it couldn't handle the data I needed when working from home and connecting a webcam and speaker/mic plus other drives. We did not realize the problem was the hub's capacity until after much research. It was also hard to find the capacity on any hub specification. Bought the Anker and haven't had a problem since. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because the cord length required that we moved equipment and our UPS to use it. ... show more
