Bought this reel for my euro rod and was please it works great. The downfall but easy to fix. Is the set screws on the reel seat. They are to lone and need to be ground down with a drimmel tool to seat properly on rod. Other than that it was awesome

I purchased the 3wt reel. Advertised as 'pre-loaded' but the reel came empty; however, fly line and backing was included in the packaging. Spooling a fly reel isn't very hard at all... Considering that I only paid $48 for this reel, I'm blown away by the quality. Spins smooth, comes with decent line, and acceptable backing. The backing frays pretty easily when not knotted-up, but seems strong and supple. I was concerned at first glance about the fly line, because the sheen it had on it made me think it would hold memory and come off the reel in a spring shape, however, I was pleasantly surprised. Decent, smooth, floating, supple fly line. The reel itself is nicely machined aluminum, well-balanced, with a smooth drag. No manufacturing marks, shaving left behind etc. My reel came LEFT HAND-RETRIEVE. (Reel knob on the left) Which is how I reel, so it was perfect. There does not appear to be a way to reverse this. The one con to a cheaper reel is that, although the drag is very smooth, the "clicks" on the adjustment reel are pretty far apart, so you cannot fine-tune your drag very well. However, with the 3wt, you won't need to be too specific with your drag, just keep it loose enough so that your reel doesn't over spool when stripping line. ... show more

This is 45 dollars. I would try to catch carp or saltwater fish with this, but it is a fly reel. Rusts fairly easily. Drag is 45 dollars worth. Catches fish and holds line. If it gets you out fishing, buy it. Great backup. I lost a part off mine, they sent me a whole used reel, that says a lot.

A 3wt panfish reel for this price! Beautifully made, smooth and it does exactly what it needs to do? I love high quality gear and I’m not afraid to pay big bucks for quality but this reel for the application and the money is fantastic! This is a good reel and has a nice drag. The spool is a little too shallow, though. You have to go light on the backing if you want use all your fly line. I wouldn’t even bother getting it preloaded. This reel is not worth it. There are two note worthy issues. First, the point where the frame and spool intersect at the line out is extremely sharp. This can be remedied by filling, although you shouldn't have to. Subsequently, a section of the outer coating on my new fly line was stripped off. Secondly, this reel is not corrosion resistant in fresh water. Upon storage after its first use ,a film of rust formed at the disc drag reel housing intersection. I fish with Galvin and Sage Reels primarily on western trout streams in Colorado, Utah, Idaho and Montana. I went way out on a limb and purchased this reel because I honestly wanted to see what I would get for the money. I can also use the reel as a backup option for a 5wt travel outfit I use to fish for bass in Georgia once in a while. I was honestly shocked by the quality of the reel for the money. It is a fully machined aluminum reel. I have yet to put a big fish on this reel, but it handles smaller bass and pan fish wonderfully. Not a 5-star rating because the machining on the inside of the reel (not the spool) is not polished smooth like more expensive reels, but that does not impact performance or looks at all. I’d never steer anyone away from big name quality brands that have been time tested on western rivers, but Anglers looking for a high quality starter reel should definitely consider this reel as a better option than any ‘cast’ or graphite reel. ... show more

Seemed well manufactured but design is short on capacity. Tried to put 50 yards of 30 pound backing and weight forward floating 8 weight line on this 9/10 reel, and it was pretty tight. A 9 or 10 weight floating line wouldn’t have completely gone on. Full sink or sink tip 9 weight line might work. Won’t buy again. ... show more
