  • Gorgeous reel for incredible price!
Color: Black reel with Sky Blue Fly Line Size: 1/2 WT Reel+Line
My reel came spooled to wind with the left hand. It's a beautiful little reel. The drag is much more than necessary for a 1/2 line weight.

  • Right hand setup and poor knots
Color: Silver Reel&Blue Line(Pre-load) Size: 7/8 WT Reel+Line
First off, it’s right hand retrieve setup. Why? I wasn’t expecting that and didn’t have anything to unwind to to make the change so I fished the day with the wrong setup. Next thing I noticed is the knot for the line to the leader. I knew it wasn’t a loop and I’d cut it if it was anyway but it only had three turns and very large tag ends that really needed trimming. So I had to cut and tie a better knot. As for being a reel, it’s pretty and holds line. The tensioner works. There’s not much else to a reel so works for me and I’m so far quite happy with it after a day of bass fishing on the lake. Line and leader seem fine for me. I fish for bass and didn’t get any big bites so it held and cast well. No complaints but I don’t have experience with the “good stuff” to compare. The problems weren’t a big deal but you need to know what you’re doing and it’s advertised as already setup which it isn’t and that’s the only reason I docked a star. If the package said it wasn’t setup and everything was in packages I’d easily rate it 5 stars. ... show more

  • Right for the Price
Color: Black reel with Sky Blue Fly Line Size: 1/2 WT Reel+Line
Purchased the 1/2 wt fly reel to pair with a 2 wt CGR (Cabela's Fiberglass Rod). It fit perfectly and works well. Took a bit to figure out how to switch from right hand to left hand. Also, there is way too much backing for the reel. Took advice of others and cut off about 30-40 ft. but the line completely fills the reel and is tight when fully reeled in. This does not impact casting. Since I am fishing sunfish, crappie and small bass, I don't need the reel to do much more than hold line; however, it seems solid enough to fight a fish if needed. For $25 - reel, backing, line and leader, this is a great deal. ... show more

  • Good inexpensive reel
Color: Black reel with Sky Blue Fly Line Size: 3/4 WT Reel+Line
Upon receiving the reel, I already knew to flip the one-way bearing, reverse the backing and line. I retied all knots with a nail- knot tool. I have several of these reels, bought multiples of same wt reels, so I can swap spools with full sink or float lines. Whatever inconvenience is worth it to me, for convenience of swapping spools for floating or sinking lines. I have more expensive reels that came with two spools for sinking or floating line. The price of two reels with backing, line and leader are less expensive, I like to customize my gear for my particular needs and am very pleased with these purchases. I nailknot my sinking lines to the leader and put loops on floating lines. Great for light line fly fishing, 3/4 wt fly setups. ... show more

  • Line Comes Loose From The Spool
Color: Silver Fly Reel(Without Line) Size: 1/2 WT Reel
I would not buy again. Low quality. For some reason, while actively casting, the fly line comes out from the lower support bar so it's no longer properly reeling in. I've never seen it happen, but all of a sudden I have line going places it shouldn't. The only way to deal with the issue is to unclip the spool from the reel body and replace the line so it's once again being properly wound onto the spool. I can't see a good way to fix the issue. ... show more

  • It is just right for a 12 year old grandson.
Color: Silver Reel&Fluo Yellow Line(Pre-load) Size: 1/2 WT Reel+Line
It is a great fly fishing reel. Light weight, small, and easy to use. I am training one grandson to load/tie on the backing to the reel spool. Then reel it on to the proper amount to fill the reel up to the proper amount to allow the proper amount of floating fly line. Thenie on the floating fly line to the backing line. Then attach the special gripping loop to the fly line end. These are braided monofilament or nylon that work like Chinese finger locks. I am used to the no-not eyelet you push into the hollow floating fly line. Then tie on the tapered leader to this new loop. Then tie on the fly. Eventually I think I will train him to tie appropriate flies for Michigan fresh water lake fish. I have the instructions on all this drawn out for him to follow with me helping. Plus larger in diameter lines for easy seeing and handling. Once he can do this on his own. We will teach him how to mount it on his new fly rod and set it up for fly fishing. Then how to stow it for safe travels and storage. Then we will teach him how to work the rod and reel with a hookless weight for visual and dexterity feel. We will have rings on the grass in our lawn for targets to practice to. Safety glasses when we go fishing. ... show more

  • Incorrectly built, and not described correctly
Color: Silver Reel&Blue Line(Pre-load) Size: 5/6 WT Reel+Line
This item is built SPECIFICALLY for people who crank with their right-hand. It is not interchangeable, as the listing claims. This is not the standard for fly fishing, but a specific design for left-handed individuals. Fly fishing is based on using your good arm (for most people the right arm) to cast, and weak side (left for most) to reel. This is why fly reels have almost exclusively been built to the standard of being cranked with the left hand. Many reels are very easily interchangeable if needed, and some are specifically built for left-handed people (cranked with the right hand). I attempted to try this listing, and as with all fly gear that isn't US-made, it was made from cheap, unreliable parts that were built backwards. No where in the listing was it stated that this is a left-handed reel, but it is. It does not have the option to switch to left-hand crank, due to the cheap design on the drag system. This reel is not even worth the super cheap price it is listed for, since it is not listed correctly. Fix your listing, describe your product correctly. ... show more

  • Great Value 1/2 Weight Fly Reel
Color: Black Fly Reel(Without Line) Size: 1/2 WT Reel
Great value large arbor fly reel that I paired with a 6 foot 2 Weight Fly Rod and added 5 Yards of 20 Lb. Test Backing and Maxcatch DT-2 Fly Line. My only adverse finding was a lack of consistent tension for the drag system, but this is a general issue with most low priced fly reels. For the typing of fishing that I do (small Panfish and Trout) this is not a major issue for me. For WF-2-F line more backing can be added as the diameter of the Maxcatch WF-2-F is thinner than the Double Taper equivalent. ... show more
