Great for sourdough starter

I use this jar for my sourdough starter and it has worked great. It is a good size, easy to clean, and I have not had any problems with the glass. The lid does not seal tightly; it mostly just sits on top. That works fine for how I use it, but it is worth knowing if you are looking for something airtight. Overall, it has been a great container for my sourdough starter.

Holds 10 lbs of flour easily
I love this gigantic jar! I've been making bread for the family for the last 3 years. No GMO's here!!! We are country folks here so making bread is second nature. I just needed a big jar that is big enough to hold at least 10 lbs of flour at a time with a wide mouth to measure and level flour without getting it all over. This is perfect. No need to weigh your flour either if you scoop your flour into your measuring cup and leveling it off. The trick is to use a scoop to loosely pour into your measuring cup. It's not all packed down that way. It's kind of fluffy. Works 100% of the time!!!! I had some stickers left from another product so I used one to write the contents on. You can easily use a sharpie directly on the glass if you want to. If you need to wipe the sharpie off just use a little alcohol on a paper towel. Comes right off. There's not a seal around the jars lid. I'm glad it doesn't. There's no need for it for my purpose. It also reminds me of my momma's old flour jar when I was a kid. When you heard that lid rattle in the kitchen you knew something good was about to be made!! I just love love 💕 this jar. The price is incredible!!!

Fabulous jar at a fantastic price point!
I wanted to start a German Rumtopf (Rum pot) like my mother had when I was growing up. I started all of the fruits separately in smaller jars, and then started the search for a good quality larger jar with a lid to combine them all into so their flavors could meld. I was not let down when I found this beautiful, heavy glass jar with a lid for a great price. When I got it, I was skeptical that my fruit would fill the jar. I took it out of it’s packaging and washed and dried it. Then the magic began. I emptied jar after jar of the fresh mangoes, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, cherries and peaches that I had started separately some months ago. To my utter amazement and happiness every piece of fruit fit into the jar and it looks beautiful!! I am one hundred percent happy with this purchase and will be buying more!! ** update: since buying this jar at 13 dollars, it went unavailable for awhile when I went back to purchase more. To my sadness, the jars are now more than double in price then what I paid for mine. Still a good deal for a quality product, but I would have liked to have grabbed a few more at such a good price **

Decent Flour Canister

The pandemic has turned a lot of us into bakers, particularly bread products. In the past, I mostly bought good, crusty bread here in South Seattle, but I've been in self-quarantine since March, and the bread that I get delivered is pretty awful. Once I received my bag of bread flour, I had a new problem: where will I put my bread flour? In the past, my all purpose flour suited all of my needs, and my traditional kitchen canisters were sufficient. But bread flour makes for nicer bread, and we all know that measuring flour out directly from bag to measuring cup is a messy undertaking. I came to Amazon in search of a storage container that is large enough to contain the contents of a (small) bag of bread flour, and that is reasonably safe from weevils (so not plastic.) I wanted something that would be simple to clean and that I wouldn't need to fight to remove the lid from. And of course, I didn't want to lay out a lot of money for something this basic. This clear, 3 quart glass jar seemed like just the thing. Mostly, I got what I wanted. The size is agreeable, in that it holds a bag's worth of flour, but isn't so large that it's obnoxious to pick up. Clean lines make it simple to wash; I pulled it out of the box; filled part way with hot water and dish liquid; swished, rinsed, and dried easily. My only complaint--and it's a small one--is that there's no seal at all on the lid. I'm in Seattle, and we don't have enough critters here for this to be a deal breaker. I didn't want to buy a container that would need to be unlatched every time I access it. But this lid just rests right on top with no gasket at all. The canister set that rests on my kitchen counter isn't like that; there's a small rubber or synthetic seal that rests between the lid and the body. Had Anchor Hocking included one of those, this would be a five star review. With that condition, I recommend this container, but for people that live where kitchen pests are a thing--not counting your family, of course, heh--it may make a difference.
