  • Love my bike, so glad they replaced it!
Our first bike had a serious issue that caused the front wheel to come off, and my son was injured. I was very upset initially. However, AMYET stood behind their product, stayed in contact with me, even called to follow up, and sent a replacement bike. The replacement arrived, and so far everything has been good. While I wish the original issue had never happened, I appreciate that they made it right. I would absolutely recommend AMYET to anyone because they stand behind their word. They made sure the issue was resolved and showed that they genuinely care about their customers, and I really appreciate that ... show more

  • 2700+ Mile Review: Solid E-bike, With Caveats
Color: Black
Looks like the nannies in my state are at it again. I had a big review of this bike on another listing that has since been removed, seemingly due to a media investigation, so I'm rewriting it here after having crossed 2700 miles just the other day. I was looking for a solution to crossing the Golden Gate Bridge for my morning commute that didn't involve me paying $10 just to get into the city, and this bike has filled that role well. As of this writing, I have saved enough in bridge tolls to almost buy this bike 4 times over. They don't care about these scrambler type ebikes on the GGB, or anywhere else in San Francisco or Marin in my experience. The cops seem to be after stealth bomber type bikes/motos (think Surron or Talaria style), and although this bike goes marginally faster than 28 mph, it has never attracted law enforcement attention. If you can ride responsibly around pedestrians and slower cyclists, this bike might be for you. THE GOOD: The bike is plenty fast, with a decent amount of hill climbing torque, a must for the city of SF. On steeper sections I do have to pedal to prevent the motor from bogging but it's not bad. You should get acquainted with the controller manual that comes with the bike. My bike came from the factory set at about 20 mph and pulling only 10 amps of current. After some adjustment, it's got a lot of get-up-and-go, enough to maneuver around most SF road cyclists, almost like they're standing still. I'm about 230 in full gear+backpack, so probably a lighter rider would fare even better. The controller can be set for a maximum of 20A current draw, but I like to have a little headroom so I don't beat the battery up too much. The color display is nice, and the seat is comfortable and expansive enough for two, but I'd say only if you both are skinny. Mag wheels are tough, but you'll have to replace them if you go with a fork worth a dang, or if you want to lace a different motor on later. THE NOT SO GOOD: The stock mechanical brakes work, but only barely once you start riding this thing hard or dealing with SF hills regularly. Hydraulic brakes transformed the bike and are one of the first upgrades I'd recommend if you're a heavier rider or carrying cargo. I got a set of Shimano MT200s and highly recommend them. Get you some AGPTEK resin or standard pads and you're good to go for thousands of miles. My derailleur has needed a lot of adjustment, and maybe I'm just not patient enough with it, but I can't seem to get all 7 gears to shift smoothly. Either the top 5 or 6 work, or the bottom 5 or 6 do, depending on your barrel adjustment. I got my son this same bike, and his derailleur was perfect, so your mileage may vary. Range claims are optimistic, as they are on basically every ebike sold online. If you're riding full throttle everywhere, climbing hills, carrying weight, or fighting headwinds on the Golden Gate Bridge, expect substantially less than the advertised maximum range. That said, for realistic commuting use, I still find the range perfectly usable. The bike is also fairly heavy, about 70-75 lbs with battery. Not unmanageable, but definitely not something you want to carry upstairs regularly. THE BAD: Ditch the tires. The knobbies wore down quickly on mine and got flat way too easily, not to mention how noisy they were. Maybe just my dumb luck, but I had 3 flats in the first couple of months of riding, so I switched to some CST Tourance street tires and couldn't be happier, also with the reduced rolling friction. My son otoh has never gotten a single flat, so again, your experience may vary. The fork also leaves something to be desired. Granted, due to my commute area I encounter a ton of salt air, but after about 2500 miles my fork was shot. Rusty, soupy brown liquid was pouring out of the stanchions, and this is not a user-serviceable unit so I had little recourse but to replace it. I got a DNM USD-8 Fat fork, which is so-far-so-good, BUT I had to build a front wheel with a 15mm through-axle hub, which of course is time and money, and it changed the geometry of the bike somewhat, making the front end a little bit swept out like a chopper and the steering a bit trickier. I think I've gotten used to it, but just beware if you live or ride near saltwater. BOTTOM LINE: For what I originally bought this bike to do -- cheaply and reliably cross the Golden Gate Bridge every day without paying bridge tolls or burning gas -- it has absolutely delivered. After 2700+ miles, rain, wind, hills, bridge traffic, and daily commuting abuse, I can honestly say this bike earned my respect. It's not perfect, and it benefits greatly from a few upgrades, but for the money, it's been one of the best value purchases I've made in years. If you're expecting a polished luxury ebike experience out of the box, this probably isn't it. But if you're mechanically inclined, enjoy tinkering a little, and want a capable scrambler-style commuter with plenty of personality, the Amyet V9-G60 is honestly a pretty fun little machine. And for what it's worth, Amyet customer service has been great. They will take care of you if you have a concern within your warranty period (1 yr). The first time I had to consult them is when my son's battery holder fell off and yanked some wires off the board on his controller, although there was likely some degree of "user error" (son had a penchant for dropping bikes on their sides, which you should NOT do with ebikes whose batteries are attached like this one). Amyet sent out new controller quickly, and it started right back up again. ... show more
