    • Not worth the $ for kids use
I bought this for my 8 year old granddaughter. The clips that hold the slide down are of easily breakable plastic which did not last long. the basic design is still the same as a tasco model I had as a kid that I found in the attic. I had to use the metal clips from my old microscope to replace the plastic ones. I was informed by AmScope that because my purchase was a "fullfilled by Amazon" order they could not warranty the parts and should return it. My order was an open box purchase which was like new condition and considerably less $, which is the reason I did not return it. The function of the microscope was good enough for a child to have fun with but the case of glass slides that comes with it is awkward to replace the slides back in it properly possibly cracking them if not careful. I would have been disappointed in this product had I paid full price. ... show more

    • OK for the money, REALLY basic
This was purchased for a 5 year old so I was looking for an 'entry level' microscope. This definitely is 'basic'. Probably best for looking at bug wings or plants. It's SMALL. I guess that means it very portable. It's mostly plastic and doesn't seem very sturdy. Just bumping your eye against the eyepiece will shift everything and then you have to realign the slide and refocus. It has no fine focus adjustment so it cannot be operated by someone without a fine touch or microscope experience. Thankfully the child's parents are scientists and can help. We had fun with it at Christmas but I wish I had found a used 'school quality' microscope for the same price for my grand daughter's first microscope. ... show more

    • Not for beginners and maybe not the sharpest fine-tuning ability
I may be out of practice, but I had a difficult time finding/adjusting clarity on the slides provided. The kit is nice, but after previewing the product as a potential gift for my 6 yr old nephew, decided to return it in favor of something equally educational but more beginner-level user-friendly.

My only gripe is the box for the slides is so hard to open that we broke the slides trying to get the box open :( Nothing too great in there anyway. Purchase extra slides if you get this. We got AMSCOPE 48pcs Kids Plastic Prepared Microscope Slides.

purchased this as a gift for a 9 year old. she was thrilled. she and her 7 yr old sister enjoy looking at things and have not had any problem in using it. The shipping was fast and it was well packaged, arriving safe and sound.

Purchased this as a gift for my 8 year old grandson. Sorry to say, but we had to send it back. The quality was just okay with some plastic parts on it, the focus was not good at all and could not see anything clear enough when magnified.
