  • Incredible easy to use
Especially considering the quality and image resolution, this light microscope is great for beginners! It is sturdy and easy to make sense of. Particularly for kids, the magnification and various lenses can be learned through trial-and-error without reading pages and pages of instructions. There are multiple light settings, a graticule, batteries and a cord, and other similar additions. ... show more

  • Nice Microscope for Home Use
For the price, this is a great microscope! I teach biology labs, and I collect water samples at home for my students to view freshwater organisms. I wanted to have a microscope at home so that I could check my water samples before lugging them all the way to work only to find out that they were low in diversity. This microscope does the job very well! It focuses at least as well as the microscopes my students use with the 10X eyepiece and the 4, 10, and 40X objective lenses. Using the 25X eyepiece and the 40X objective lens was more challenging with my organisms, but we never go beyond 400X in class, and this microscope definitely performs well up to 400X magnification. You do want to be careful, because there isn't a hard "stop" when the stage is brought up to the highest level, so it would be possible to keep turning the coarse focus knob and strip it. I just watch the stage and stop turning when it quits moving. I also supervise my son (age 8) when he uses the microscope to make sure he doesn't make this mistake (or use the coarse focus with the 40X objective). Also, keep in mind that this microscope does not have a mechanical stage, so you move the slide on the stage by hand (for this low price, you would not expect a mechanical stage). All in all, I'm very pleased with my purchase, and I highly recommend this microscope for casual use. ... show more

  • Excellent Instrument for the Price
This is a full featured, well designed instrument for this price. I would have given it 5 stars if it included even a cheap case. Pros: Two eyepieces (10x & 25x) yielding magnifications of 40x, 100x, 250x, 400x and 1000x Top and bottom LED lighting Both sources of light can be varied in brightness to improve contrast Like most microscopes you can use a cell phone camera held up to the lens to take pictures. This is very easy to do with the 25x eyepiece since I was able to rest the camera lens right on the eyepiece to help stabilize it. Course and Fine focus knobs are smooth and work well even at 1000x Comes with a well made plastic cover to protect the device when not in use. Cons: Lack of a carrying case Top lighting cannot be used with the 40x objective due to it's length and the position of the light Slide Holders are too tight, once loosened they worked much better I'm including a few pictures taken with my Cell Phone to show the range of magnification and a couple of examples: The first slides are taken using a calibration slide, each division is equal to 0.01mm. Shots are 40x & 400x The blue slide is Onion Skin I highly recommend this device for students or anyone that just want a good Microscope at a low price. ... show more

  • Would have loved this microscope if it had been reliable
I liked that this microscope was easy for the grandkids to use. The top light was a great feature. I used it as often as I did the lower light which, unfortunately, wasn't that often. The bottom light on the first one we ordered quit working the third day we used it. Everyone gets a lemon occasionally so I thought I'd try again. The first one was shipped back and we replaced it with another one of the same model. The lower light quit on the second one on the second day. One bad one could be a quality control problem, but two in a row seems more like a design problem. I really hope everyone else has better luck with theirs than we did with ours. ... show more

  • great microscope
Nice solid built microscope. I bought this for my 10yr olds and they love it! Simple to use and easy to focus once you figure it out. We live that it has both a top light and a bottom light. Fyi, at the highest resolution the lens will be almost touching the slide. Highly recommended for the young and older scientist in your home.my kids and I are constantly looking into a world we didnt know existed before. Also, you can put your phones camera to the eye piece and get pretty good shots of your slide. ... show more

  • the quality is pretty great considering the price
Firstly, when viewing specimens under this microscope, the quality is pretty great considering the price. I am a college student, but I even showed my professor some of the pictures I had taken through it and she was very impressed! However, after three months, the stage had broken off. It seems as though the plastic has chipped off of the screws that held it down. I have always handled the microscope with care, and I loved everything else about the microscope. ... show more

  • Awesome scope for the money! Not a toy!
Bought this to check for bacteria/amoeba in water. So far I have not found any, but know that the scope works for detecting objects of that size as I've viewed spoiled milk (gross) and watched lactobacillus working diligently away. I've tested morning saliva (too many unanswered questions there) and I've also used it to view some blood but I'm not entirely sure if I was seeing red blood cells or just had the scope out of focus. Of course the final experiment is the ever necessary epithelial cell from cheek swab experience. Perfect intro experiment to microscope use. I also ordered an amscope slide making kit with dyes and square covers (you're gonna need those) and a lens cleaning kit. Great mostly metal construction, clear glass optics, and both an overhead and lower led for viewing solid or translucent objects. Overall it's a seriously great scope for the money. Will probably purchase another dual optical model in the future. ... show more

This is a really nice microscope. I got it to use for doing parasite checks on my goats and it works great for that - it's actually much more powerful than I expected. The light has a dimmer and the fine focus knob is nice. It came with a dust cover, seems sturdy and should hold up well. I didn't think I'd use the sample slides, but they were nice to have for getting used to each level of magnification. My only complaint - I assumed a few blank slide covers would be included along with the blank slides, but they weren't. Be sure to order some! ... show more
