  • Nice toilet
Style: Left Hand Color: Bone
Bone color exactly matches our paint and cabinets which are a warm linen or bisque shade. Flushes efficiently with less water, doesn’t plug up. Fits well in a tight space. No problems with installation. Very happy with it.

  • Underwhelmed - incorrect ---> Aug 2022 update - better! Giving this 4.5 stars
Style: Left Hand Color: White
2022 update at end Not really what I was expecting. Maybe it's due to it's only a 1.28 gal toilet? Flushing action is different but underwhelming - it flushes from around the rim downward (the amount is not that great) & it also at the same time shoots a blast of water from the front of "rectangular" bowl 'pit' (not sure what to call this opening?) towards the back of the toilet, basically pushing the bowl content out as the downward water flow pushes down. The design of this rectangular bottom of bowl pit design is to push to the back and then up and down the modified S-hump (longer running start...?) - versus the old circular bottom of bowl pit design of pushing down, then up the S-hump and then down. It is just a different design. But, with this 1.28 gal toilet, you may have to flush twice, no way around it. It depends on what kind of food you've eaten and how the waste feces adheres to the bowl (sorry, trying to be delicate). But, with that Everclean glazing, the 2nd flush seems to always clean out everything. Maybe the 1.6 gal toilet has that more dynamic flushing action we've seen in the TV ads - more water? But many buildings will only allow tenants, home owners (condos/coops) to install 1.28 gal toilets. Oh well, stuck with 1.28 until we get our own detached home or duplex.... It is still odd to watch this different flushing action, from the 2 points of water action. So, due to the underwhelming flush action and the nice glazing, I've come to a 3 star rating. Pros: very quiet - while flushing and tank refilling (no gurgles or hissing or anything else - maybe from the other complaints I've read, it is due to how their units were installed?) - and I'm very noise adverse fast tank refill, Everclean glazing - definitely less cleaning, slow close toilet seat, small footprint, THE HEIGHT (nice), easy install (but I had building folks do it) Cons: slow close toilet seat - to me it is somewhat flimsy, I like the thicker seats better - going back to my previous seat which is great and giving this one to wifey (she likes it) Aug 2022: This toilet bowl does do the trick. I just neglected to return and update it SOONER. A neighbor was asking for some input and I told him about this model. I do like it. No real regrets in purchasing it. It is a solid, efficient flush - RARELY need to flush twice to remove bowl contents. RARELY. VERY quiet, still to this day. Did I mention I RARELY have to flush twice.... The height is more than nice, it is MUCH better than the shorter toilet bowls (i.e. Toto). Giving it 4.5 stars since I rarely give anything 5 out of 5 or 10 of 10 stars. --- would recommend this to everyone. ... show more

  • Great -- if you discount the defect
Style: Left Hand Color: White
I tend to discount reviews that complain about a defective product; I know that every manufacturer will occasionally slip in a klunker. I also know that I'll return defective merchandise -- so I focus on what reviewers say about non-defective items. So, here I am writing a review about a toilet I received that was defective. I'm taking one star off for the defect because an installed toilet is quite a bit different than most items when you contemplate returning it. In this case I think the defect should've been caught by the manufacturer. Here's what it was: the toilet appeared to be in good shape when it arrived. I had it installed by a professional plumber. It had a slow drip from the tank into the bowl, causing the tank to partially refill every 4 minutes. I had the plumber come back, but he was unable to fix it (or thought he had). I contacted American Std: they diagnosed a faulty flush valve (the entire piece with the "flapper" on it) and shipped out a new one. I requested Fed-Ex (since this is the only toilet in our house), but they used USPS so it took 10 days. When I took off the old valve I discovered the real problem. There was a porcelain burr on the tank itself about 1/8" high and about 1/4" long. The valve was not sealing over that big of a lump. So I filed/sanded it down, installed the new valve (though the original one was probably fine), and it hasn't leaked since. The tank appears to have been made in Mexico, while the valve was made in China. I assume that someone in America had to put the two together and should've realized it wasn't going to work with this defect on the tank right where the valve is supposed to seal. So Quality Control is a little suspect here. Nevertheless, now that the defect has been removed, I really like this toilet. It uses an amazingly small amount of water (a sip rather than a big gulp), and the surface stays clean. I also like it being one piece: less to go wrong. I recommend it, and if yours has the same symptoms you'll now know where to look (unscrew the flush valve from the tank and look for imperfections on the tank itself). ... show more
