  • Powerful flushing toilet, but not completely unstoppable
Color: Bone Style: Left Hand
The American Standard Champion PRO does an amazing job at sending everything in the bowl on it's way to the sewer. Their advertisement shows it flushing a bucket of golf balls - I suspect this is *not* true of the California version, which allows only 1.28 gallons per flush. With 20 percent less water than the 1.6 GpF models, it obviously can't defy the laws of physics. Nevertheless, that 1.28 gallons comes rushing down a 4-inch inlet, so I've only managed to stop it up one time since it was installed a few months ago. I do have two problems though that everyone should consider: 1) while the "PRO" model gets you better cleaning of the bowl than the regular model you can get at Home Depot, this American Standard Champion PRO still does not do as good a job as a Toto Drake (the other brand I have in other bathrooms). I.E., without being too graphic, if there is something on the edges of the bowl (below the regular water line), it might take a second flush (or the swish of a toilet bowl brush) to get things back to a gleaming bright & clean state. The Toto on the other hand is pretty amazing in this regard. My second issue with this American Standard toilet is that it occasionally runs water for a second or two (I hear it a couple times a day). I.E., long after anyone has been in the bathroom, the tank will decide to turn on the water for about 2 seconds. I have checked for leaks, which this seems like it must be, but I can't find a thing. My only explanation (other than a slight leak on the flapper valve in the tank) would be that we use untreated hard water and I suppose the valve might have some grit in it. I suggest this because I have not heard it run by itself for several days now, and it did not do it in the first month after installation. One last word of caution - my first order for this American Standard toilet arrive with the bowl being shattered in many many dozens of pieces. The driver *HAD* to have heard the sound of tinkling porcelain and just decided to let me deal with the problem since the instant I moved the box even just a few inches, I heard the porcelain sound. And, quite frankly, Amazon handled this problem poorly, as they ran out of stock on the elongated bowl version of this toilet and would not find out from their suppliers when it would be back in stock. Since the toilet I had in my house needed replacing desperately, and I was unwilling to pay the much higher price elsewhere, I ended up ordering this round bowl version. And sure enough, about 3 weeks later, the elongated version came back in stock. I was quite unhappy about all this, and worse yet, after emailing and calling them several times, they did not call me back at a time when I was home (I have to be fair and say that they did leave me two messages, but each time I returned their call, there was no mechanism for me to actually talk to the person that left me the message (or they were simply unavailable). I was EXTREMELY disappointed with Amazon. And, they also botched up the return - I had to deal with setting up the inspection and return shipment since Amazon didn't respond to my emails asking how to handle the situation. I received a $20 credit for my troubles, but this is not what I wanted - I just wanted to know when the toilet would be in stock again. I find it beyond comprehension that Amazon has no way to contact suppliers to find out when something will be available - even just an estimate. ... show more

  • A toilet worth raving about
Color: White Style: Left Hand
This was our second Champion Pro (and second with the round front). The first, bought 7 months ago, had some issues with the flapper leaking that took a while to finally fix. Once that issue was resolved, though, we LOVE THIS TOILET. It flushes like a champ. We have teenagers who would routinely plug all our older toilets. Not anymore! We have knee problems in the family that made getting on and off our older, shorter toilets a literal pain. Not anymore! Our older toilets used to start smelling the day after we cleaned them. Not anymore! The anti-microbial surface really helps with this, I think. Our second Champion Pro (this one) has been a champ from the start. This one took me less than 30 minutes to install (not including the time to remove the older toilet, or fix the rusting-off grooves on the "exhaust" pipe flange). My wife loves the look of the round front, and the modest profile. With the Mayfair wooden slow-close toilet seat (which is also PHENOMENAL), this is a winning combo. We couldn't be happier. And I'm almost not embarrassed to have expressed these opinions about a toilet. ... show more

  • Love It!!!
Color: White Style: Right Hand
I love this toilet! So much that I have two. I ordered both toilets through Amazon. When I ordered the second toilet I only received one box ( the tank). If you order online make sure you receive both boxes - the tank and bowl are boxed sperately. Anyhow, I called Amazon and they ordered another for me free as long as I would return the tank on their dime. I received it in less than 3 days! I also love Amazon just because they bend over backwards trying to please their customers. The toilet has a powerful flush and works well with my 100 yr old plumbing. It installed easily and the directions were easy to follow. The inner workings in the tank are already installed for you so all you have to do is attach tank and bowl together and attach water line. If I had more bathrooms I would continue to put this toilet in each one. I can't say enough about American Standard and there dependability. ... show more

  • Missing essential parts.
Color: White Style: Left Hand
This product did not come with either a toilet seat or a wax ring .... they expect you to go to the hardware store for that. The seat cost $40, with tax, so WTF? The installation was OK, but the toilet itself is pretty noisy and the tank takes forever to fill back up. I bought a much cheaper toilet with even less flow (.8 gal) for way less at the store, and it included the toilet seat and wax ring, and installation was a breeze. This was a rip-off. Stay away from it. ... show more

  • Cracked tank
Color: Linen Style: Left Hand
Found a hairline crack in the tank about 6 years after installation. Looking to buy a new tank, there are a lot of reviews that state this as a problem with this model. My plumber will be installing a different brand of toilet. On the good side it always flushed well and I had no problems for 6 years. ... show more

  • Best on the market
Color: White Style: Left Hand
Easy to install. The seat fits just fine but we changed to a soft seat. Flushes cleanly and fast. Refills quickly.Installed in less than a half hour. We use these in our apts and trailer rentals. Build and sell houses and these are or go to brand. We`ve used Kohler and Toto but they usually have bad valves and clog due to the smaller trapway and smaller flush valve which gives less force. ... show more

  • Not Impressed
Color: White Style: Left Hand
Difficult to assemble, tank gasket needs to be compressed like crazy in order to not leak. The little plastic wrenches they provide to tighten the tank bolts are a joke, there is no way you can get enough leverage with them. Used a ratchet and I'm surprised I didn't crack anything.Currently have to hold the handle down to get a complete flush, need to adjust. The float started sticking almost immediately, have to take the lid off and bump the float to shut off the toilet. It hasn't clogged, thats about the only positive. ... show more
